18.01.2022 RETAINING WALLS! We get a fair few calls from clients regarding location of retaining walls. Under the Neighbourhood Disputes (Dividing Fences and trees) Act 2011, retaining walls are 'not defined as part of fences because they usually benefit one neighbour more than another' Generally, you are solely responsible for upkeep or replacement of a retaining wall on your property if your property has been cut & retaining wall built to stabilise the bank. Similarly, if your la...nd has been filled and your retaining wall holds that fill, it is your responsibility. Walls higher than 1m generally need engineering / building approval. If you live within the city of Ipswich, walls over 2m require additional amenities & aesthetics approval from ICC. Your local Council web page should have a fact sheet and requirements for building a retaining wall in your locality. Retaining walls in all cases must be entirely within your boundaries and can be right up to the boundary. It's a good idea to engage a Cadastal Land Surveyor to locate your boundaries before commencing work on retaining walls. EDIT: "QCAT can make orders about carrying out fencing work that includes work on a retaining wall only if the repair of the fence is dependent on the work for the retaining wall." If in doubt, seek legal advice.

You know when you find something good though you just have to share it, so we just had to make time to send a big shout out to Annette & her team at Power Legal in Ipswich. We have used their services several times over the years for conveyancing, personal legal matters & have happily referred clients to them. 15.01.2022 We recently sold a property and dealing with the paperwork got me thinking about how do you know you are buying the right property? Sounds simple enough, right...? You pick the house / land you like, make an offer with the agent and once accepted the contract is sent of for the legal guys to do their bit. But what happens if the description on the contract is not correct? There is the potential for the wrong property to be transferred. By engaging a Cadastral Surveyor to carry out a location certificate, you can ensure that the property under contract has been correctly described. You will receive a photograph to identify the contract property, and we will also be able identify any other potential concerns such as fences or dwellings over boundary, building too close to boundary and any encumbrances on the land. Next time you are considering purchasing property, consider engaging a Surveyor for a Location Certificate. See more

06.01.2022 We were so thrilled to be able to help out one of the locals, Maria, who recently attempted a Guiness World Record dog walk attempt. Maria needed a Surveyor to mark out a distance of 1km through parkland and certify it for submission to GWR. We are so happy that Maria's was able to successfully walk 36 dogs over this distance, which we believe is a new record (just waiting for official verification). Congratulations Maria.

02.01.2022 A devastating fire on March 11 this year at the Cleveland Scout Den destroyed tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and the Den, which had been in place since WW2. This week, we were happy to offer our services to the Cleveland Scout Group to help them start the process of rebuilding. For us, being there for our Community is a big part of being small business owners in the community.
