20.01.2022 Hey peeps, I’m so excited to show you my latest @anniesloanhome painter in residence piece. This looks simple and that is what I wanted as it’s inspired by Henri Matisse and his work with cutouts. His use of bright colour and shapes in his later years are so vivid and exciting me. So I made it my own by using pink ( obviously) but I wanted it to look like pink set plaster, soft and mottled but smooth at the same time. I used primer red with textured brush strokes then used Sc...andinavian pink with added water to build layers and then sanded it before adding the cut out stencils I made. 05.01.2022 It's been two weeks since @anniesloanhome announced me as the new painter in residance and I still can't believe I'm on this amazing journey! Here is a little detail shot from my first piece that was inspired by stripped linen fabric but with a geometric twist. I loved building the texture with layers of coco, graphite and a mix of the two before using pure white to create the stripes and lots of white wax to highlight the texture. 04.01.2022 Take two! So this one had a little reaction to the stain block I used which meant taking the lot off and going back to raw. I used black wax to bring out the grain and deepen the dark green teal and I’m actually pleased it worked out this way. I think she looks better for it. This is just part of the gig when refinishing second hand furniture and you never really know what will turn up on a project! 02.01.2022 Hey peeps, since I made my Matisse inspired cutout stenciks for the second Painter in residence piece for @anniesloanhome have been itching to use them again! This lovely retro piece was the perfect one I thought has it already had the texture I wanted to create. I used Arles, Country grey and Svenska blue and exposed some if the plywood edges to give it a little contrast and tie in the oversized timber knobs. Lots of layers and white wax to seal and highlight the texture.
