24.01.2022 During Perths period of home isolation teacher Bridget Seaton ran The Curiously Creative Sketchbook Challenge. She posted demos suggesting ways to fill up a sketchbook by finding inspiration in and around the home. Lots of Atwell Art Centres members joined in with the fun and there were at least 20 of us working away at home during April and May on our lockdown sketchbooks. The results have been collaborated into one giant accordion book which is on display at Atwell Arts Centre until 9th August. Its worth a look as it celebrates the work of 18 people and its one of those art exhibits that you have to walk around. Its very difficult to photograph so come and see it in the gallery - there is a surprise hiding on every page.

23.01.2022 We hope you got a chance to see Merredin Fine Arts Society's exhibition in the Gallery last week; they really enjoyed their time at Atwell and would like to thank everyone that made them feel so welcome. They are vowing to come back. And they interacted so well with all the visitors to the gallery whether they were people they knew, people who had seen their exhibition advertised, people who called in because they saw Merredin on the sign, our members when they finished their... art class/group or children attending Kids Art who came in with their parent or their teacher. The gallery was full of good arty vibes and laughter; it was lovely to see. Next, sneaking in between 2 gallery hires, we will have a lightening popup exhibition for just 5 days starting tomorrow. We need some art on the walls for our AGM on Tuesday. MCAA members please bring your labelled work in with a completed stocksheet (https://www.atwellarts.com/mcaa--exhibitor-information.html) between 9 and 10:30am Monday Sep 7 and pickup on Friday between 3 and 4. This will be followed by the South of the River Potters' biennial "Glorious Mud" exhibition entitled FIRE!. see https://www.atwellarts.com/upcoming-exhibitions.html

12.01.2022 We're looking forward to participating as one of the Open Studios in the City of Melville Art Trail this weekend; thankfully the weather forecast is beautiful so we will be able to use our lovely outside areas to showcase what we do at Atwell. And aren't we just so lucky to be in WA and have the opportunity to share our love of all things arty with our visitors, so come along, get involved and let's have some (socially distanced) fun. Thanks to those who have already said ...they will set up as artists in residence, run activities and/or display/chat about their own art. There's plenty of room for more people to join in so if you'd like to set up just reply to this email. We are calling for groups, teachers, individual artists to setup outside and share their passion for art and craft. You can have displays, do demonstrations, be artists in residence, promote yourself, your art, your group. If you are part of a community group that would like to promote themselves or run an activity that is also fine. What about doing some plein-air painting around or near the Atwell House site? What's On All weekend (that's from 10am - 4pm Saturday and Sunday) you can visit our annual Spirit of the Swan exhibition in the Gallery (art celebrating the river and what it means to the people of Perth) and outside you can chat to our artists in residence and see what they are up to (maybe even join in), help us create our temporary "Spirit of the Swan" mural (show us what you love about our river), colour our "Swandalas" and enter a competition. Add your own marks to our communal canvases. Some specific activities are:- * Saturday from 10am - South of the River Potters will be doing a Raku firing in the outside area to the east of the Gallery * Saturday 2-4pm Join in a free Portraiture session model with our zany Manga teacher, Debora as the model * Sunday 10am - 1pm Join in a free Figure Drawing Session with model Cara (3 different poses/changes of clothes) And of course there are plenty of other open studios so click to Explore the City of Melville Open Studios 2020 online map Hope to see you over the weekend.
