12.01.2022 Haben Girma joins us live alongside BBC Africa to answer your questions. Haben is a lawyer and graduate of Harvard Law School - the first deafblind graduate. ...She benefited from accessible technology growing up in the US school system, but her brother, who is also deafblind didn't have the same access living in Eritrea. 09.01.2022 Congratulations to Carla Anderson, Manager of Deafblind Services at Able Australia. Yesterday, Carla was awarded the Australian Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Ho...nours List. She was recognised for significant service to people who are deafblind, through advocacy, support and service delivery roles, and to interpreter training. In 2012, Carla presented a great workshop on Conflict Resolution for our Ushers Group. We've included a picture below. It is great to see that her hard work has been recognised. We are fortunate to be working with Able Australia and Carla as part of our MOU partnership. Congratulations Carla!

05.01.2022 Posted on behalf of Karen Wickham Call for research participants. I would be very grateful if you could forward to any contacts and distribute amongst your networks. I have now received ethical approval to begin this project and are looking for participants. Research Title: Children of Parents living with Usher syndrome and dual sensory loss: Experiences across the life span... Purpose of the project Through this research we hope to identify particular themes and issues that are commonly faced by adult children of parents living with Ushers syndrome and dual sensory loss. The research will extend across Australia and New Zealand. The purpose of this research is to compare and share experiences and to help raise awareness about the challenges and the triumphs experienced in the deafblind community. Building on our previous research on parenting and Usher syndrome we hope to provide new research to guide nationally and internationally a more holistic, informed and comprehensive approach to supporting families living with Usher syndrome and dual sensory loss. Please contact me for more information and to participate in this important research. Many thanks in anticipation of your support . [email protected] See more
