21.01.2022 The National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders is the first unified approach to the assessment and diagnosis of autism in Australia. Launched in 2018, the Guideline defines clinical best practice and a new diagnostic standard. It aims to make the practice of assessing and diagnosing autism clearer and more consistent throughout the country so that individuals and their families receive the best possible care. A National Guideline Implementation Toolkit is now available to help clinicians to upskill and deliver the recommendations in the Guideline. Individuals undergoing an assessment, parents and caregivers can also access resources to learn more about the Guideline and what to expect from the assessment process. 17.01.2022 The second in our three-part webinar series: Surgical Management of Hearing Loss and the Role of the Audiologist will take place this Thursday. In this session, Emma van Wanrooy will share three case studies looking at the ongoing audiological management of hearing losses with a conductive component that have had surgical intervention (including tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy) but with a residual hearing loss. While Stuart Rankin will present on the role of the audiologist in the diagnosis and management of adults with conductive/mixed hearing loss in an ENT setting. Information received today from the Chief Allied Health Officer is that allied health practices will need to close for the duration of the six-day 'circuit breaker' period unless you are able to utilise telehealth options to deliver care. There are exemptions from the six-day order: 1. Allied health professionals working as essential worker...s in hospitals providing critical clinical care or as directed by the hospital 2. Allied health professionals working in private practice providing care through telehealth and other virtual care options 3. Allied health professionals providing mental health services, being provided in hospital or telehealth 4. Students, medical/nursing/midwifery/allied health on placement providing essential care in hospitals or through telehealth SA members, check your inboxes for more information. 12.01.2022 Australian researchers have developed a new technology to objectively measure tinnitus, according to a recently-published study. Tinnitus refers to hearing sounds such as ringing or shrieking which are not present externally. This condition affects up to 1 in 5 adults, and in its chronic, severe form can lead to depression and stress.

"Statistics have shown that people are being affected with hearing loss younger and younger, and it is important to make hearing checks part of your regular check-ups, along with eye checks, dental checks and everything else," says Heena.

04.01.2022 Audiology Australia is seeking member feedback on the development of a client guidance document on self-fitting hearing aids. The purpose of the guide is to assist clients who are seeking to purchase a self-fitting hearing aid with understanding some of the challenges associated with self-fitting a hearing aid. The guide recommends the involvement of an accredited audiologist in the diagnosis of hearing loss and, where necessary, support of clients with the adjustment of their preferred hearing device. 02.01.2022 DVA Gold, White and Orange health cards have been replaced with Veteran Cards. The Veteran Cards (Gold, White or Orange) have been issued to all DVA cardholders and function the same way as the previous DVA health cards and cardholders’ health entitlements remain the same.
