The Morrison Government invested $3.5 million into this project via the Building Better Regions Fund to ensure this long awaited and important infrastructure project could take shape. This project has not only created important jobs in the midst of an economic crisis, but the redeveloped facilities make for a more positive visitor experience for those visiting our region. 19.01.2022 What is a common occurrence in the tropical regions of Australia, only comes to the temperate regions every so often. This afternoon shortly after lunch, well-developed storm cells swept through the Mount with people and animals seeking cover against the fury of mother nature.

18.01.2022 The planets Jupiter and Saturn are moving ever so closer to each other. This image was taken last night from Kilsby sinkhole. Unfortunately, Monday evening's we...ather forecast doesn't look promising to see the closest approach in nearly 800 years. Tonight will therefore be best to look out for it between 9.30pm and 10.30 pm low on the western horizon. The media has dubbed it the Bethlehem Star with Christmas only 4 days away and the combined brightness of the two planets. See more

15.01.2022 The Blue Lake, continuing to look it's summer best and drawing a steady crowd of both tourists and locals in for a look.

15.01.2022 Descending the earth's belly at dusk. In a short few years, Kilsby's sinkhole has turned into a world hotspot for cave divers, freedivers, and snorkelers alike.... Today it is even accessible to the public for a visit. Recently a wooden bridge with glass sides was constructed on the south side of the sinkhole providing breathtaking birdseye views from above. This image was taken from the bridge last night as divers descended into the sinkhole for a night dive. It is situated on private property and you have to pre-book online to visit or dive here. The popular spot, 10 minutes southwest of Mt Gambier, was not always accessible to the public. Back in the middle of the 1900's it was a classified site for weapon development by the ANDF. (Barra Sonobuoy research) The development of the sites continues with exciting new prospects on the horizon. I look forward to working with the Kilsby family recording the new development. Congrats on your first night dive Rene Le Roux See more

07.01.2022 SECOND AIRLINE FOR REGION: Qantas will operate two new routes from Mount Gambier as of next year in response to customer demand. From March 28, 2021, Qantas wi...ll operate five weekly return flights from Mount Gambier to both Melbourne and Adelaide. The flights will be operated by the airline’s 50-seat Q300 turboprop aircraft, with upgraded cabin interiors, offering 500 seats on each route per week. The airline is offering special fares for flights on the new routes from $125 one-way, available at qantas.com or through travel agents until December, 20 2020, unless sold out prior. "These new flights will help more Australians explore some of the incredible places in their own backyard and drive tourism, which is so vital to the local economies of regional areas." Qantas is offering community members the opportunity to join its Frequent Flyer program for free until January 31, 2021 via qantas.com/freejoin. Travellers will be able to earn Qantas Points and Status Credits on the new routes as well as using their points to book flights.
