25.01.2022 IMPORTANT: IF YOU HAVE BEEN EVACUATED OR ARE PLANNING TO EVACUATE! We have already had some owners make contact with us to board their Danes but we will always make more room for more if needed. Boarding is free of charge and transport options are available. In order to keep the phone lines free for those who are facing extreme difficulties,we will not be taking phone calls at this time from Non-fire areas, for anyone else wanting to get in touch we can be contacted via ...email @. [email protected] which I will be monitoring regularly to ensure I can respond to everyone. In order to ensure we have enough room, We will NOT be boarding non-NSW/QLD Danes until all NSW/QLD owners and their dogs have confirmed they are safe and sound. If you are a QLD/NSW owner near a fire area, please make contact/respond to the email sent as soon as you are able to, so that we can mark our babies (and owners) as safe. Thanks for your understanding everyone. - Lizzie See more

23.01.2022 IMPORTANT PLEASE READ! As many of you know, I'm not only a registered breeder, but I have studied Biotechnology (viruses in particular) at university level AND I have worked in the Veterinary field for the past decade. I tell you this to try to assure you that the following message is an educated one. There is a LOT of confusion surrounding COVID - 19 . One of the rumors is that you can catch it from your pets. Currently there is NO evidence to say that our pets can get ill... from this particular coronavirus that's affecting humans OR that we can catch it from our companion Animals. The strain of coronavirus that can impact on dogs is completely different, it’s been around for years and we already vaccinate against it. You can’t catch it! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO BE PUT DOWN, IF YOU ARE CONCERNED OR YOU WANT TO VOLUNTARILY RETURN YOUR DOG TO US WE WILL TAKE THEM BACK AND IMPLEMENT APPROPRIATE QUARANTINE MEASURES. I REPEAT, DO NOT EUTHANISE YOUR DANES/PETS. This being said, we believe that it is important that ALL owners take precautions NOW to ensure that you are prepared to isolate. Please make sure you have enough pet food AND medication on hand to last at least three weeks. We do not encourage you to buy in excess, take only what you need, but its important that you keep a reserve on hand. Royal Canin has advised us that they currently have an adequate supply if you need to order food. We strongly suggest doing it without delay. Orders can be placed online through their website, plz mention us in the notes as I will be chasing up orders that reference Auroradane with my RC rep to ensure they are filled. Please put a plan in place regarding WHO will look after your Danes if you become unwell and need to be hospitalized. Lastly, some antiseptics (like dettol) are HIGHLY TOXIC to your pets. PROPER use of soap and water is actually a great option. I’m talking Good old hand soap like nanna has. In order to reassure people, I’d like to explain why. Most viruses consist of three key ‘building blocks’ ; 1) ribonucleic acid (RNA) 2)proteins 3) lipids. These building blocks are held together by something called a covalent bond. Because these bonds are weak, you do not necessarily need harsh chemicals to destroy them and deactivate the virus. The key to ANYTHING being effective is exposure time, More scrubbing = more bonds broken. So go nuts washing human hands with any antiviral you wish, but for the love of god please don’t spray your pets with anything that’s not pet safe. Thanks everyone! As always please contact me if you need Lizzie

18.01.2022 LEPTOSPIROSIS ALERT TO ALL PET-PARENTS IN EASTERN MELBOURNE **Follow this post and share with other local pet-parents for more updated information as we find ou...t more.** **11th Nov Update: We are getting quite a few questions on vaccination. The answer is yes we do offer vaccination. At this stage, we are recommending it on a case by case basis. If you are interested to find out more, please call our hospital & emergency centre on: (03) 8595 6655 between 8am to 8pm.** In the last week we have had a confirmed diagnosis of Leptospira interrogans (italics) serovar Copenhageni in a dog living local to the Maroondah area. Although he and his family fought hard, sadly the dog was extremely unwell due to both liver and kidney failure and unable to be saved. We do not know of other confirmed cases in Eastern Melbourne, however, it is possible that the disease is being seen but not confirmed. ***Leptospirosis can cause severe illness in people, can be lethal in dogs and cats and infect many different mammals. *** Because of the severity of disease this bacteria causes, as well as its ability to spread between people and animals, all cases must be reported to the Department of Agriculture immediately. This bacteria is more commonly seen in the humid conditions of Northern Queensland, and quite rarely seen in the southern states. However, in the past few months, there has been a spike of cases confirmed in central Sydney and now the Bayswater and Maroondah area. At this stage, we have created a brief infographic to help you reduce the risk of exposure to your beloved pet. We sincerely hope we don’t see any more cases in the near future. Rest-assured we are surveilling the situation extremely carefully to make sure we keep your pets safe and healthy. We will be updating this post regularly to keep you in the loop. **Please share this post and spread awareness if you know of any pet parents in Eastern Melbourne.** If you want to learn more, please refer to: https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//Conditi/Leptospirosis https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//fa/Pages/leptospirosis.aspx Or contact our 24/7 vets on-site vet hospital in Ringwood: (03) 8595 6655 or your local veterinarian.

18.01.2022 Yesterday I returned home from a heart appointment to find my front gate open and two of my Danes ‘missing’. The gate to their enclosure was also open when I got home. This morning I woke at first light to search for them, upon returning, I found them tied to my front gate. No note was left with them. And I know it wasn’t anyone locally as all of my neighbors were helping me look (and they are good people). Please keep a close eye on your Danes. As anyone who owns a dane kno...ws, they are people dogs, they are friendly and they trust easily. Unfortunately some people will take advantage of their good nature and it does make them easy targets for theft. To anyone who has tried contacting us over the past few days I will endeavor to return your emails/calls/FB messages this weekend, as soon as I’ve caught up on some sleep as last night didn’t involve much. Thank you for your patience.

15.01.2022 Anyone up in QLD currently impacted by or at risk of being impacted by the fires, or looking to leave early, please be advised that if you don’t have somewhere for your Danes to go, you can have your Danes sent to us via your preferred dog transport company. Dogmovers GTE and Jetpets can all arrange transport for you if needed. As usual, Boarding will be free of charge. All Owners in QLD will be contacted shortly.

14.01.2022 Life hack that we have to share! This spray from Aldi is the BEST at getting rid of the smell left over from any puppy accidents inside. Or, in our case, wet dog smell on a suede couch after the dogs decided to jump in a stinky dam! Similar products are nearly $30 at pet shops and in my opinion, they don’t work as well. This is under $2 and it’s amazing! ... *were not sponsored or getting any financial gain from recommending this product. It’s genuinely awesome!

09.01.2022 1941 - Coast Guard training a Great Dane Due to the size and weight of a Great Dane the United States Military in World War II wanted to train the dogs to be ...like the German Shepherd‘s currently being used with great success. The training program was so unsuccessful that it drove a dog training Sergeant to tears when he repeatedly tried to get a Great Dane to jump over an obstacle, the playful Great Dane would run up to the obstacle, grab the entire structure in his teeth and then bring it back to the Sergeant and place it at his feet wanting to play. It was shortly after that the United States Military gave up training Great Danes for war.

08.01.2022 Our Magic girl passed away unexpectedly this morning. She was the happy-go-lucky staple around here. Always bright and bubbly and would bring a smile to even the grumpiest peoples faces. She was silly and energetic, kind and always up for a snuggle. And she will be missed greatly. As you can imagine I am heartbroken. Things just won’t be the same around here without her. RIP girl. May you be catching birds and escaping enclosures where ever you are now.

01.01.2022 ***Public announcement** Due to the high risk of bushfires possibly impacting on not only our property but those surrounding us over the next 48 hours we will NOT be able to take in any Boarders like we usually would in times of disasters. I am deeply and sincerely sorry if this places anyone under extra pressure but it simply would not be safe at this time. If your property is in a watch and act we urge you to leave immediately to a safer location, do not wait and see. ... Danes do not do well with a lot of smoke and heat as they have short fur and are extremely prone to overheating. Keep them inside with you if you are in a safe area. And if you aren’t and can leave, please do so now. So that we can focus our energy on the current fires, We will NOT be available to answer any NON EMERGENCY messages/phone calls or applications for the next 48 hours. If you have a Dane EMERGENCY (non vet) and need to get in touch with me please TEXT my private mobile number on 0423 900 824. Stay safe everyone! -Lizzie
