To put these... fires into perspective More than 15 MILLION acres of Australia's land have been burnt (the Amazon fires burnt 2 million acres). Over 2,500 buildings destroyed. 24 lives now lost and dozens more missing. We have lost an estimated HALF A BILLION wildlife. Many communities are isolated with no electricity, water, fuel and limited food supplies. The smoke has now travelled 2,000km over to New Zealand.
