21.01.2022 Today I battled moderate dehydration at the base of the Grampians to bring you images of the stunning Utricularia beaugleholei! This species inhabits seasonal s...wamps and flowers when the waters recede into summer. The flower of the species is distinguished from U. dichotoma by its wide and flared lower lip and numerous yellow ridges. See more

19.01.2022 After fifteen years of work and climbing 300 mountains, my life's work is nearly complete and ready for release in 2021. Nepenthes - The Tropical Pitcher Plants... Volumes 1, 2 & 3 is a complete study of all known species of Nepenthes currently recognised. It is 1,350 pages long and contains over 3,000 images (more than 1,000 have never been published before. Nepenthes The Tropical Pitcher Plants is specifically designed to complement Stewart McPherson’s past books: New Nepenthes Volume 1 and New Nepenthes Volume 2. The New Nepenthes series includes countless expedition reports, conservation assessments and wild observations that underpin the treatment and taxonomy presented here. 19.01.2022 Tonight Sydney meeting is underway.

18.01.2022 We have investigated the functional morphology of the Aldrovanda vesiculosa snap-trap with the help of 2D and 3D imaging techniques. Congratulations to first au...thor Anna Westermeier for the publication of the results in Annals of Botany, which are accompanied with a refined protocol for CT analyses of soft, wet, and un-lignified plant tissues. The video shows the 3D reconstruction of a closed, only few mm long trap with a trapped mosquito larvae. Here's the link to the article (accepted manuscript version): https://academic.oup.com//advance-article-abstract/doi/10.

17.01.2022 New species of Venus Fly Trap found in Australia and has just been described . Dionaea e metellum is a 2.5m tall metal plant. Prey hasn't been observed yet but is believed due to size of plant, humans would be it's targeted prey. Dionaea e metellum grows in hot arid with low humidity conditions from Lightning Ridge NSW, Australia.

16.01.2022 I am excited to announce that my first research paper has just been published! https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com//10./ecs2.3179 It investigates the ...prey spectra of Drosera sect. Arachnopus (a.k.a. the "D. indica complex"), including numerous interesting research questions such as: 1) What factors influence prey capture in this group? 2) Is there any evidence of prey selectivity among sympatric (co-occurring) species to avoid competition? And... 3) Do species with highly unusual eglandular appendages (e.g. D. hartmeyerorum) or trap scent (D. fragrans) capture significantly more or different prey? Since there are unfortunately no pictures of whole plants in the manuscript, I have included some for all researched species below :)

14.01.2022 Here's a 3 week time-lapse I shot of a Drosera scorpioides gemma. At the start of the growing season, pygmy sundews produce modified leaves called gemmae that e...ach enclose a bud. After dispersal, the gemmae quickly sprout a tap root followed immediately by carnivorous leaves. These plantlets can mature into a flowering sized plant within a single season, increasing the chances of survival during the harsh summer dormancy period. See more

12.01.2022 Dearest Stallholders, Plant Hunters and Collectors’ IMPORTANT NOTICE Under the amended public health order for gatherings and movement, published recently on th...e NSW Government website, Collectors’ Plant Fair 2020 will again be postponed. This is heartbreaking for us, our growers and the Collectors’ community. 2020 has indeed been a very wild ride, with many twists and turns along the way, with COVID-19 throwing the ultimate spanner in the works. The Plant Fair we had prepared for you on March 28-29, 2020, was our biggest and most exciting to date. The decision to postpone only 14 days before was not taken lightly. And we find ourselves with no choice but to postpone our beloved event in the interests of public health and safety. We intended to offer a Springtime Collectors’, fitting into the space left available for Plant Lovers on September 26-27. Our plans included guidelines on social distancing, added precautions with regards to hygiene and cleaning and a comprehensive COVID-19 management plan. However with uncertainty in the air, changes to public health orders around maximum numbers permitted at public gatherings will make it impossible to proceed this September. We can now confirm that Collectors’ Plant Fair will move to April in 2021, with a date to be confirmed with the Racecourse, before the end of August. TICKETHOLDERS will be contacted via email with information on what happens next. Thank you for your understanding and support, we're all in this together. We are super prepared and the venue and fair infrastructure paid out and ready to roll. The uncertainty has been most difficult, but ultimately everyone’s health is our priority and with your kindness and support Collectors’ will go ahead next year. Take care and keep safe, and enjoy gardening in this beautiful spring weather. Kindest regards, Linda and Dan, Convenors
