24.01.2022 On #InternationalEqualPayDay, Australia’s candidate for the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Natasha Stott Despoja AM, reminds us that ‘We know gender inequality has an adverse impact on economic growth, so investing in women’s economic empowerment is both the right and smart thing.’ Financial security, resilience and empowerment give women real opportunities and choices about their lives, and those of their families. When women do wel...l, their families do well, and our economy and nations prosper. With gender inequalities exacerbated by COVID-19, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to equal pay, to avoid further backsliding on gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. https://youtu.be/TNtAXdkKZ7w

23.01.2022 Brid Stack & Family Garden visit It was great to meet Cork sporting royalty, Brid Stack at her family home in Bishopstown, Cork. Luckily the weather just about permitted the meet and greet ‘garden visit’ which was a great opportunity for Brid, her husband her 13 month old son, her mother and her father to talk about the AFL Women's competition in 2021. We discussed Brid’s move to join GWS Giants and link up with another Irish sporting legend and long time rival on the p...itch, Mayo’s, Cora Staunton and Donegal's, Yvonne Boner to play in the AFL Women's 2021 upcoming season. We want to wish the very best of luck to Brid travelling from the Emerald Isle to The Emerald City, Sydney for a new and exciting chapter in her life and the very best of luck to all the AFL Ireland women players heading off in the new year to take on the big leagues of Australia.com #20x20

19.01.2022 Today, the Australian Embassy in Ireland was on RTE News at One with Brian Dobson discussing the current situation around travel, Covid-19 and quarantine in Australia. The Ambassador acknowledged that it is hard to get into and hard to get out of Australia. At the Embassy we have taken over 300 calls in the last month and know the incredibly difficult positions many people are in. We are working with both the Department for Foreign Affairs and the individual airlines to resol...ve each case and we are getting people home. There are currently around 300 people registered with us, while sixty four (64) have been successful in travelling so far. The situation is very challenging and dependent on health guidelines and quarantine capacities in Australia. Please, if you haven’t done so already, register with us on https://covid19.dfat.gov.au/citizeninformation/s/ and stay in contact. 16.01.2022 Globally, 63 million primary and secondary school teachers have seen their schools and classes close due COVID-19. This means teachers had to quickly adapted to social distancing in schools, distance and online learning, to ensure students get the education they need. So teachers have been very creative with ‘no tech’ and low tech solutio...ns. Australia’s Partnerships for Recovery response quickly adjusted to include education support to the Indo-Pacific, providing many teachers the resources necessary to reach their students and continue teaching them. 09.01.2022 H is for Happiness Film - Australian feature film Directed by John Sheedy and starring, Daisy Axon, Miriam Margolyes, Wesley Patten, Emma Booth, Richard Roxburgh and Joel Jackson.... The film follows Candice Phee A 12-year-old girl as she attempts to help her family and friend. Daisy Axon Inhabits the quirky precocious character of Candice Phee Conveying her likeability and strangeness. M iriam Margolyes is suitably eccentric in the role of Miss Bamford. Wesley Patten Captures the juvenile char man mystery of Douglas Benson the script by Lisa Hoppe Tackles darker themes not usually seen in family films. however, it does this through inventive world and a likable cast of characters. The direction by John Sheedy Is vibrant as he immerses us in this creative and childlike world and effortlessly mixes comedy and Drama in the vein of Danny DeVito’s Matilda In conclusion H is for Happiness Is a charming family film With an Aussie edge.
