23.01.2022 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Cara! Our customers have been getting into the Christmas spirit through decorating, creating and baking to make their homes look, feel and smell festive. Our support workers encourage our customers to actively participate in Christmas and New Year preparations, from selecting and placing decorations around their homes, to deciding on a menu, to taking part in pre-Christmas activities. What's your favourite part about the lead-up to Christmas?

18.01.2022 Happy International Day of People with a Disability! Today, we're celebrating each and every person within the Cara Community. We’re especially grateful for our wonderful, diverse group of customers who truly make the world a richer place. 15.01.2022 Today, we acknowledge those who served, those who fought and those who lost their lives. We will remember them. Image description: A white outline of poppy flowers on a blue background, featuring the words 'Lest We Forget' and the Cara logo.

14.01.2022 Cara is acting in a careful and considered manner toward the new COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak in the northern suburbs. We ask customers and their families to visit the SA Health website (www.sahealth.sa.gov.au) for the most up to date and accurate information regarding restrictions and recommendations. We are currently working through strategies to keep everyone safe and we will be in touch with customers and their important people via email very soon with more information.... In the meantime, we ask that customers limit their non-essential outings and also prevent visitors from entering their home. Please continue to practice good hygiene, including hand washing, and social distancing (1.5m apart from others) to stop the spread. We will continue to act carefully and follow SA Health advice to get through this swiftly, together.

13.01.2022 As we reflect on our Cara Recognition of Excellence Awards, tonight we’re sharing the winner of the Edna Redman Service Excellence Award for support workers. This award honours the life of the late Edna Redman, an active and tireless supporter of the Spastics Centre of South Australia for over 40 years as a Patron, Board Member and member of the Woodville Women’s Auxiliary. (One of our meeting rooms is named in her honour, too!) The award is sponsored by Cowell Clarke Commerc...ial Lawyers, supporting Cara in all areas of the law. And the winner of the Edna Redman Service Excellence Award is Nigel! Nigel has been recognised for his work ethic, life values and energy which resonates throughout his work. Nigel is striving to find ways to generate discussions and lead to improvements. Nigel is also known for his connections with customers, engaging in daily tasks with infectious enthusiasm so customers are more willing to participate in things they might not otherwise be interested in. He supports customers with tools and information so they are empowered to make their own choices for greater independence, like a self-drive camping holiday. Nigel is also noted for his teamworking, bonding everyone together. Congratulations and thank you, Nigel! 13.01.2022 There were smiles all round when our customer James welcomed Tim, our Executive Manager - Workforce Development, into his home last week. James, who we work alongside in Supported Independent Living in the Adelaide Hills, is a passionate gardener with a great sense of humour, and there were lots of laughs when he showed Tim around his beautiful backyard to film the Cara Annual Report video, especially when a cheeky frog hopped out behind one of his pot plants! Are you getti...ng out in to the garden this weekend? What are you growing? Image descriptions: - A close up photo of Tim and James, they are both smiling widely at the camera. - Tim and James are under the pergola in James’s home. 12.01.2022 Liberty Swing is always fun!

12.01.2022 The days are warming up and some of our customers are loving it! Cara staff member, Hawa, took these fabulous photos of customer Dom enjoying the sunshine as the pair wandered the streets of Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. We love seeing our customers making the most of the warmer weather but it's so important to take extra care during summer. Just like Dom, remember to slip, slop, slap and stay hydrated.

12.01.2022 Little acts of kindness can go a long way. Happy World Kindness Day! James is in a wheelchair, is wearing a striped t-shirt and has a moustache. Kim is also wearing stripes and has light-coloured, shoulder-length hair. It's a sunny day and both James and Kim are smiling widely. The words "If you can be anything, be kind" are written on the left-hand side, with the Cara logo beneath.

12.01.2022 It has been announced by the SA Government today that from midnight tonight (Wednesday, November 18), South Australia will be in strict lockdown for six days as a result of the new COVID-19 outbreak. This means that all South Australian residents cannot leave their home except to access essential services (ie: medical appointments, groceries etc.). If you must leave your home, you should wear a mask and practice social distancing. As an essential service, Cara’s Supported Ind...ependent Living will not be impacted. Only essential Home and Community Support (HCS) and Short Term Accommodation - Respite (STA) will continue throughout this time. Customers who are affected by this will be contacted by Cara staff as soon as possible. Only one person, per household, per day may leave the home for grocery shopping and essential items including medication and pharmaceuticals. For Supported Independent Living customers, this must be a Cara staff member. Remember to visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au for the most up to date and accurate information. Cara is acting carefully and doing everything we can to cooperate with the SA Government, SA Health and to keep our customers, staff and entire Cara Community safe and healthy. We will be in touch again soon via email or post with more detailed information. Image description: A light blue rectangle featuring the words 'COVID-19 Important Update' and the Cara logo.

09.01.2022 FAIRGROUND FUN! Missing some of the big events this year? A few of our customers and staff have headed to the Mix 102.3 Holiday Fun Fair at Bonython Park and had a great time. Think showbags, rides, sideshows and show food favorites such as Dagwood Dogs, cinnamon donuts and fairy floss, yum! Heather, who we work alongside in Supported Independent Living, enjoyed the event this week, with the thrill-seeking Kamikaze ride being one of her highlights! Have you been to the Fun... Fair? What was your favourite part? Image descriptions: Heather is standing underneath an arch that says Mix 102.3 Holiday Fun Fair. 09.01.2022 We LOVE celebrating our customers achievements on social media, but we also have some pretty talented staff! If you've called our Cara Connect team recently, you might have spoken to Stuart, one of our Customer Relationship Officers. As well as being one of the friendly voices on the other end of the phone when you call Cara, Stuart is also a dad to Henry and Alby, and a volunteer firefighter with the SA Country Fire Service and was recently named Fire Fighter of the Year for... the Belair CFS. This year is all about celebrating and thanking our firies, and we are proud to have one as part of our Possible People! Congratulations on your achievement Stuart, and thank you for your service to the community! Image description: A composite image of three photos. In the main image, Stuart is pictured outside a firetruck with his baby son Alby on his lap, and his older son Henry to his left. Stuart is holding a wooden plaque award. In the second photo, Stuart is crouching down posing with Henry, who is holding (and looking quite excited to use!) a fire hose. They are both smiling widely. In the third photo, baby Alby is crawling towards his dad's wooden plaque with his mouth open in surprise.

09.01.2022 All smiles at our Possible Picnic at Adelaide Zoo! L-R Kerry, Lisa and Korina together at the Rotunda.

09.01.2022 HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW? Recently Daniel, James, Patrick and Eric, who we work alongside in Supported Independent Living in Port Augusta, welcomed our Chief Executive Liz in to their home to film the first part of our Cara 2019/2020 Annual Report video. We have a number of green thumbs amongst our customers, and with spring upon us, we thought it was a great opportunity to showcase their gardening skills. We'll share some more behind the scenes photos from our film shoots with Redman Media over the coming weeks, and look forward to sharing the finished video with you soon! Image descriptions are on the caption for each photo.

07.01.2022 Shane and Kym are two very different individuals who share a home. Despite their differences, they enjoy finding ways to combine their interests in ways that reflect their personalities in their surroundings. Shane loves music and is an enthusiastic fan of 90s rock greats including Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd, while Kym is a retired professional surfer. Cara staff worked alongside the pair to discover this classic Pearl Jam poster, which they both gravitated toward instantly. ...Kym chose and purchased a frame, while Shane bought and printed the poster. They both loved taking part in the creation of this masterpiece for their loungeroom, which Cara staff say perfectly suits the two. We can’t wait to see Shane and Kym continue to use voice, choice and control to proudly transform their home by making meaningful selections that reflect their goals and interests.

05.01.2022 We love the zoo! Our 2021 Possible Picnic was an absolute hit with Cara customers, families and staff alike. We had perfect, sunny weather, tons of activities on offer (including the famous Liberty Swing!), with plenty of feathered, scaled and furry friends to visit around the zoo. With so many happy, smiling faces on show throughout the day, we just had to share a few more of our favourite snaps.
