Raspberries have been harvested continuously at Orielton for the past six months and fruit quality and yield has exceeded expectations. Of Piata Farms raspberry growing regions, conditions at Orielton are the most like that of Europe where the varieties were bred. Therefore, the location is ideal for raspberry production and the result has been exceptional berry size and taste. Key infrastructure including polytunnels and a high-tech pack house are already in place to enable expansion plans.

Technology companies Laava and Trust Proven...ance have been engaged to provide digital fingerprint labelling, a more secure digital form of product identification, while Trust Provenance will provide blockchain technology so that multiple data points can be linked into one platform in real-time. The program will use these technologies to show traceability in horticultural businesses during a real-time environment; from using unique codes for the fruit through to tracking them in the marketplace.

13.01.2022 The Queensland Government has opened applications for a $500,000 industry grants package to support Queensland agribusiness exporters directly affected by coron...avirus disease (COVID-19). Grants can be used to assist with purchasing new equipment including refrigerators, freezers or filleting machines and for larger projects such as market evaluation studies, market visits and staff training. The first round funding for the new Market Diversification and Resilience Grants Program opened today (Thursday March 12) and applications close on Monday April 20. Applicants seeking funding for new equipment up to the value of $10,000 will have their applications assessed as soon as they apply and will be notified within days as to whether they have been successful. Applicants businesses must contribute 25 per cent of total equipment costs. The project-based grants will provide funding of up to $50,000. Applicants must co-invest at least 50 per cent of total project funds and successful applicants will be notified by 1 May 2020.

01.01.2022 The Australian Government has awarded the Australian Melon Association $296,160 in funding through the Traceability Grants Program to determine the most suitabl...e system to support digital traceability in the export supply chain of melons. Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud said a state of the art digital system for clear traceability of our premium Aussie melons will open up more export opportunities. "The project will include growers, wholesalers, exporters, importers and retailers, enabling each step in the supply chain to add value in recording and managing the product," he said. A traceability system suitable for the melon export supply chain could also be applied to other fresh produce such as pineapples, pumpkins and cabbages.
