25.01.2022 We completely oppose the Cashless Debit Card and the erosion of Australia's services sector through privatisation.

24.01.2022 When you have #engagement with industry, you get better outcomes. The Beyond Zero Emissions new Million Jobs Plan provides a solid framework to a renewables led, zero emissions future for Queensland. Manufacturing, Transport, Housing, and many other industries will see positive benefits from the changes recommended. The #evidence shows that electrifying these industries and making improvements to standards will create jobs while reducing costs and emissions will bring value t...o taxpayers. We know the way to a Progressive future. But we need your help to see this vision through. Join us today and Demand Better for our industry and our future. www.progressives.org.au/join See the report here: https://bze.org.au/the-million-jobs-plan/

23.01.2022 Big congratulations to our colleagues at Canberra Progressives for an impressive first election. Considering the branch was only registered in May, the fact we are the highest polling minor party is a true testament to the fact people want to see change and our call to demand better is resonating.

23.01.2022 It's not just the Federal government that doesn't seem to care about fair acess to safe housing. The state LNP has put forward no plan for social housing, and when in government shut down the tenants legal service. The Labor government has a scheme for private investors to build low income housing, which so far has built... not a single house yet. They have built some social housing though, a whole 2700! Meanwhile QCOSS has reported 87000 people waiting for secure housing. Qu...eensland Progressives supports building 100 000 new social housing constructions across the state over a five year period. This will not only provide secure housing options for at risk and vulnerable Queenslanders, pulling them out of poverty or protecting those fleeing domestic violence, it will provide thousands of jobs and security for the building industry. Governments may not support providing the one thing proven to be most effective at eliminating poverty, but we do. If you agree with the evidence, join us and empower all in Queensland to be safe and secure. Story: https://thenewdaily.com.au//government-kills-social-housi/

23.01.2022 The Carmody Report was seven years ago now, and in that time great progress has been made in funding social services and creating programs to reduce the need for interventions. More always needs to be done though, and policy cannot be tunnel visioned. We could double the funding to child protective services, and would still see terrible cases like Mason shock us. Until the underlying causes of inequality and poverty are looked at we will not see change. The scourge of drugs ...like ice that run as a common thread through many cases seen by government inspectors tend to mostly occur in lower socio economic areas. Complex issues require comprehensive solutions. Queensland Progressives will look at the bigger picture, and we recognise the need to have community solutions to community problems. Building public housing, funding vocational education, and creating jobs with innovation in green industries will help relieve the pressure on the most vulnerable Queenslanders. Help us fight for a Progressive future. Join today. www.progressives.org.au/join Story: https://www.abc.net.au//child-safety-queensland-mason-jet/

22.01.2022 We all know Australian beef is arguably the best in the world, and tastes great. Until now though, just how complex those flavours are has never been fully explored. Flavour wheels are useful technical devices for understanding what you're tasting. As this Landline piece notes, it's commonly used for wines or coffee. By thinking outside the box and applying this to wagyu beef is a great way to show the value of beef. Now that we have the #evidence of just how good Aussie bee...f is, let's support it. 19.01.2022 The #evidence doesn't support new coal mines, so why are Labor and the LNP so invested in opening up new mines? Queensland needs policy that supports clean jobs and clean industries. 19.01.2022 The increasing rates of people - mainly older women - falling in to homelessness or struggling to afford housing is a direct result of government policy, and a failure on many levels. Having over 20 thousand people waiting on a list for housing and building only 400 houses is spitting in the face of those doing it tough, and Annastacia Palaszczuk should be ashamed of the lack of action from Queensland Labor. Many facing homelessness are on single parent payments or JobSeeker..., and for Scott Morrison to cut the rate at this time is disgusting. We need to do more to protect our mothers and grandmothers. We need to build more housing, and make housing more affordable. We need to Demand Better. https://inqld.com.au//our-secret-shame-mothers-grandmothe/

19.01.2022 Regional Australia is responsible for about 40 per cent of the nations economic output and provides jobs for around one third of Australias workforce. It is t...he backbone of Australian agriculture, which seeks to grow from a value of around $60 billion to $100 billion over the next decade. Farmers for Climate Action know that their livelihoods and hard work are being threatened by the impacts of climate change. The #evidence is literally in their backyards as they battle climate driven risks like worsening drought and bushfire. Regional Horizons is a $1.8 billion program designed to build the industry whilst promoting climate smart agriculture and building regional resilience to climate disasters. Will the government listen and #engage with these industry leaders to deliver important national outcomes? Australian Progressives will. 18.01.2022 Queensland houses are often made inefficient, with cookie cutter developments and townhouse lots going up across the state. Even though we have one of the lowest wholesale power prices in the country, we pay far too much for heating and cooling. The Climate Council "Clean Jobs Plan" has a 12 point process for bringing an extra 76 000 jobs across Australia. Following the plan with retrofitting houses across Queensland specifically to be more energy efficient would bring in 12...00 to 1600 jobs in that one area. If we take the rest of the recommendations there are up to 9750 jobs ready to go. We need #engagement with experts that know how to take us forward, not "unite and recover" with more coal mines and nothing new. Join us if you support the #evidence. There are jobs ready to go, and we need a party that will fight for a Progressive future. Read more about the plan here: https://www.climatecouncil.org.au/resources/clean-jobs-plan/

18.01.2022 Will you join us and fight for a Progressive future?

18.01.2022 It is not much of an understatement to say democracy and decency is under attack. Clive Palmer is a stain on the history of politics in Australia. Having a mining magnate that wants to open up the Galilee Basin to massive amounts of coal wanting to run candidates is a gross corruption of the political process. Like property developers not being able to donate or stand for office, mining magnates should not be able donate to or run a political party.

17.01.2022 18 months in to a pilot program to subsidise rent for low income houses, and the excuse as to why not a single house is ready is the pandemic that only started five months ago. Something doesn't stack up. What Queensland needs is government with #empathy for our most vulnerable. A comprehensive program of public housing construction is needed to alleviate the housing shortages across the state. 14.01.2022 With the harm mining causes to the land and atmosphere, why is Hancock Prospecting still so heavily subsidised by this government, and why do they pay virtually no tax. 1952 When Lang Hancock flew over the Pilbara, he identified iron ore sites and TOOK POSSESSION OF THEM, making him and his DESCENDANTS e.g.... Gina Rinehart some of the richest people on the planet. 1960s When Phillips Petroleum found oil and gas in the North Sea of Norway in the late sixties, they HAD TO ACQUIRE LICENSING RIGHTS from the Norwegian government to extract it, making THE COUNTRY the richest in the world. In Norway this principle was a legacy of hydroelectric power plants built in the late 19th century, which established once and for all that the land (and by extension the continental shelf) belongs to the nation, and the government grants licence for its use for the benefit of the people. It was never a source of entrenched or lengthy debate. Nor was the establishment of the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund, now worth $1.5 trillion (NOK 10,353,845,252,913 on June 9th, to be exact). Not bad for a country of just over five million. The fund was set up not only to shield the Norwegian economy from becoming too dependent on income from fossil fuels, but to fund future generations when the oil wells dry up and the gas pipes run empty. In a time of crisis, it is also there to help balance the budget. Australias FutureFund is neither as large ($162.6 billion on June 30th, 2019), nor does it serve the same purposes, designed primarily to cover the shortfall of the Governments superannuation liabilities. It plays no role in the current financial crisis in which Australia finds itself. https://www.michaelwest.com.au/australia-under-funded-desp/ As Progressives, we aim to refresh Australias national discourse and rebuild our political and economic landscape as a more engaged, #empowered and #ethical democracy. 11.01.2022 Australia, and Queensland in particular, has been exemplary in its response to COVID-19. The recent report from the Grattan Institute shows that putting the state in to lockdown was the right call to make at the start of the pandemic. Now that we are in the stage of reopening and starting back at school and work, it is important to balance the needs of businesses and the health of people in the state. The Queensland Progressives are taking the standpoint that "travel bubbles"... are the right course of action. Victoria is providing the #evidence that if we open from lockdowns too quickly and ignore social distancing rules we will slide backwards. Until the Chief Medical Officer is happy for a full release of border control, only allowing certain states or regions within states to enter Queensland without quarantine is a proper course of action. #Engagement with local regions like Northern NSW is important to our tourism businesses, and we believe it is safe to do so. We strongly discourage the political bullying and cajoling other parties and parts of the media have gone down; only by working together will we find the best outcome for all Queenslanders. 11.01.2022 Queensland does not want or need a new coal fired power station. The State Labor government report shows it will be economically infeasible. Last night in the Minister's power debate put on by Solar Citizens the State LNP opposition committed to no money going to new coal power stations. So why did the Federal Government announce a feasibility study, then open a custom tender process for only the company announced two days later? The federal government giving a $4 million fea...sibility study to a company with no experience in energy, for a power station even their own state branch does not want, is unethical. 10.01.2022 Often considered the target audience when "quiet Australians" are mentioned, older people are increasingly becoming at risk of homelessness and poverty. Women in particular are the most at risk, and women over 45 are the fastest growing demographic of disadvantage. This is not something we can accept. Queensland Progressives have committed to supporting a public housing building program of 100 000 new houses over five years. This is in line with the evidence from QCOSS and ot...her social service organisations. In addition to this we need to focus on keeping people out of poverty, by supporting working and volunteering programs. This is the Progressive future we are fighting for. 09.01.2022 The NSW government has just given approval to a huge expansion to the Vickery coal mine. While it is coking coal, used in steel making, it represents an increase of nearly a third of the mine's carbon emissions. The NSW energy minister has been praised of late for his strong language and action on increasing renewable energy in the state, and yet with this mine expansion and the proposed gas project in Narrabri we still see governments unwilling to step away from fossil fuels.... We see the same issue in Queensland. The Palaszczuk government is pushing for the expansion to the Acland coal mine outside Oakey, the Valeria mine in the central Queensland coal fields and the multiple projects in the Galilee Basin, including Carmichael mine with Adani, and Bimblebox mine where Clive Palmer wants to destroy hectares of pristine national forest. There is also the Surat Basin gas project and the licence given to Santos for fracking exploration across the Lake Eyre Basin. None of it is good enough. Excuses of being scared to get on the wrong side of vested interests and their donors are not good enough. We need innovation in clean manufacturing and renewable energy generation that will create thousands of jobs across Queensland. We need better government that is not beholden to corporate donors. We need to fight for a Progressive future. Story: https://www.smh.com.au//whitehaven-wins-nod-for-plan-to-do

08.01.2022 This is one of the issues we have with the current recommendation by Premier Palaszczuk to send Voluntary Assisted Dying to the Law Reform Commission. The excuse that Queensland Labor uses is that it's the same process as was done for abortion reform. The difference here is that Voluntary Assisted Dying has already had a full committee report completed, whereas with abortion reform that had not occurred. Why send this legislation to yet another committee when the work has already been done? The people of Queensland deserve to know the voting intentions of each party and their members on this issue.

08.01.2022 Even if you look past the environmental impacts of creating the largest thermal coal mine in Australia, this is a foolish, short sighted, poor investment by the Future Fund. Coal is on the way out, the price is only going down and putting money in to a project like the Adani real line is ill advised by many economists as it will become a stranded asset when coal finally collapses. The Australian Future Fund website states that the Fund is "for the benefit of all Australians". Perhaps we should remind them that this is not an investment in our interest. https://www.abc.net.au//future-fund-invests-milli/12984734

07.01.2022 Neither Federal nor State government has given a great amount of support to the gaming industry, despite it being one of the largest entertainment industries that is worth over $3 billion to the Australian economy alone. If Queensland was to give the same support to games design companies as we did to hollywood films, we could become a global powerhouse of industry. Incentivising major established companies like Activision or EA, while at the same time providing support for ...startup companies, would bring in thousands of jobs. Local councils like Logan City are already taking advantage of the burgeoning competitive gaming market by building an e-sports stadium. We need to follow the #evidence that there are jobs and revenue being missed by ignoring gaming, and Progressives seek to change that. 06.01.2022 "Equifax participated in Labor's series of so-called cash-for-access business forums in 2019, donating $5,500 to the Australian Labor Party in August last year." 05.01.2022 Austerity has never lead to positive outcomes for societies. Finding efficiencies in public service can be taken at face value as good, but never at the expense of services and front line staffing. 05.01.2022 "It is now too late to allow for a gradual... transition away from fossil fuels". Professor John Quiggins at University of Queensland has given us these chilling words in a new report that shows we must be moved away from coal by 2030. Queensland Progressives already calls for this policy, including stopping all new thermal and mixed coal mines and halting proposals such as the Carmichael Project. We are also calling for a moratorium on unconventional gas extraction, better k...nown as fracking, and a limit on new conventional gas exploration with a view to phase out production. 05.01.2022 We are disappointed by this move by World Rugby to put a blanket ban on transgender women participating in sport. There were no advocates on the board for trans people when this decision was made, and no real world examples have been looked at. The claim about safety for cisgender women doesn't seem to hold water if they are ok for trans men to play against cis men. Instead of a blanket ban which will continue to foster transphobia and exclusion we should be looking at a case by case basis. 05.01.2022 Gas and agriculture have coexisted for decades. While not always an easy partnership, there has been something of an understanding between these two naturally opposed industries. That relationship is becoming increasingly untenable. With the move away from gas (albeit slower than coal's demise) looking increasingly likely, even despite the best efforts of our Federal Government, we need to protect our farmers from potential hazards. Coal Seam Gas is by far and away much safe...r than fracking, but it still can cause great damage if accidents happen. We don't need 8700 hectares of new coal and gas tenders, as the Palaszczuk Government announced earlier this year. 04.01.2022 In the groups latest email to its followers, the Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Martyn Iles says hes on a mission to expose the political movement as a front for other political beliefs including queer-affirmation. I have tried to expose the fact that Black Lives Matter is a radical Marxist organisation with a host of political agendas that go directly against all that we, as Christians, stand for. Deconstructing the nuclear family, queer-affirmation, abort...ion, transgenderism, unforgiveness and violence and anarchy, for starters. Its all in their creed, on their website. Its anti-Christ. Iles wrote. On his Facebook page, Iles described the political movement as a front for multiple issues including trans-liberation, and said it is a movement that hates the gospel at its core. Our core values of Equality, Empathy, Ethics, Engagement, Empowerment, and Evidence all completely oppose this statement by ACL. 02.01.2022 Farmers have enough to worry about without insurance pulling out over gas wells on their property. A strong source of secondary revenue is used by many farmers to keep money coming in, and this is taken advantage of by gas companies. The Queensland government must support the farmers in solving this issue and protecting their property from environmental damage and financial danger. 01.01.2022 Queensland is uniquely positioned to be a world leader in renewable energy, with massive potential in solar, wind and bioenergy. The latest #evidence in the Queensland Conservation Council report shows that a transition to full renewables within 15 years would generate 9400 jobs in construction and almost 11,000 ongoing jobs to operate and maintain existing and proposed renewable energy projects including wind farms, solar farms and batteries, with a large percentage of those... jobs going to regional areas including Far North Queensland and the Darling Downs. However, both Labor and the LNP do not have a plan for a full transition to renewable energy. We need to #DemandBetter from our government and demand immediate action on climate change. 01.01.2022 The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) released its Integrated System Plan for the next 20 years just recently. It is interesting to note that the plan is very positive about the transition to renewable energy sources, even with the inaction and confounding by the Federal government. This report states that even with a "do nothing" approach, we will likely have a mix of 74% renewables by 2040. This is unacceptable for reaching our Paris Agreement targets though, and no...t the best course of action. A "stepped" plan will see renewables at 94% by 2040, with a return worth over $40 Billion on $11 Billion invested. In Queensland, the current major parties are sitting far closer to do nothing. CleanCo, the state owned energy investment company, does not own any solar projects (although it does buy from the privately owned Western Downs Solar Project). This is not good enough.
