03.01.2022 As most of you would have gathered by now, we are trying to turn Lorella into a Wilderness sanctuary and marine park. A couple of weeks ago, the Seabed ...Mining Report was released, in which Rhett and Lorella feature in the foreword. To read the full report go to https://www.topendcoasts.org.au/seabed_mining_no_way Sadly, documents received under Freedom of Information laws about seabed mining proposals confirmed our concerns. There are plenty of applications around our NT coastline. While seabed mining has never been allowed in Australia before, the NT’s moratorium will expire in March 2021. As you know, the Northern Territory is in the unique position of having some of the last healthy tropical coasts in the world - including the coastline of Lorella - something to be treasured and protected. Seabed mining is like bulldozing the seafloor. It will decimate habitat, and marine life impacting our lifestyle and economies that rely on healthy ecosystems. Anyone who wishes to support us in our endeavour in protecting our pristine landscape and its surrounds, PLEASE COMMENT here and SHARE THIS so that it may reach the desks of those aspiring to become our new leaders in the upcoming elections, and hopefully we may get one step closer to becoming a great big private wilderness sanctuary for our future generations to enjoy #KeepOurCoastlineHeathy, #NTelections, #LorellaWildernessSanctuary
