25.01.2022 Hi Fishermen, I've Had a few inquiries about which reels are good for fishing, verses weight, longevity , components, strength, after sale parts and pricing. Don't forget once you reel is 7 or 8 years old it's hard to get parts for and it doesn't care how good condition your reel is in and how much you pay for it. It is even worse for combos, few parts. OK here we go value for money, longevity, components, after sale parts, and strength, for overhead reels, Penn Senator range... from small to large reels. Penn started making these reels back in the early fifties. The early reels where made of bakelite, you can still buy parts for them, and there a work horse. The down fall is weight and star drag. Other overheads, Daiwa Sealine, Shimano Beastmaster, Tiagra, TLD series, Penn international, Fin Nor, Some Okuma, all older reels. lets try spin reels, valve for money, strength, and components. Pflueger some reels, Penn spinfisher, Fin Nor offshore, Penn torque, Poor man's stella, Gladiator titan 8000 with up to 30 kgs of drag for roundabout $250. Daiwa GS9 been around a long time. Alvey reels, no bearing been around for every, downfall hard to cast and line twist, use plenty of swivels to alleviate line twist, and have a good go at casting. OK that's all for now. The quality and manufacturing standards of their spinning reels is below par, for what the people are paying for. There are other reels on the market that are better value for money.

A hell of a lot rods are painted and underneath is rubbish. Same goes with reels. there are some good reels that are not expensive but are quality for the amount you pay. A lot of reels, nearly all of them do not have lubricants in them. What i do as soon as I purchase a reel I service the reel, then i know its good. Keep your eyes open for older fishing rod blanks they are far superior and have good action in the blank. When they made the blanks the colour was inaugurated in the fiberglass resin, great for restoring. last forever, Some of my photos are restored rods up to 30 years old. Keep your eyes peeled, there cheap old rods out there.

It was his fathers rod handed over to him , so every time he catches a fish its a good possibility he will be thinking of his father. A favourite fishing rod has good history. 11.01.2022 What ever you do don't pull apart a reel unless you know what you doing. A reel might look simple there not. Down load a schematics to have a look how many moving parts in a reel. Before pulling it apart. People bring their reels to me in pieces cause they can't assemble the reel with missing parts that sprung off after they release pressure.
