25.01.2022 A big thanks to Mask_co for their generosity in supporting our upcoming Trivia Night raising funds for the April Battambang Clinic. https://instagram.com/mask_co?igshid=1rh09weq1udtb
24.01.2022 Since 2014 Members of our Team have been heading to Roka Village Hospital to offer assistance to the village. Much has changed over these 7 years. When Dr David and I first visited Roka there was no Health facility let alone a Hospital. We did our first clinics in a local government open air structure with no health facilities. Now there is now a dedicated Hospital and AUS-SSC look to compliment their knowledge and skills so as to advance the care of this community that has s...uffered much. Cluster of HIV Infections Attributed to Unsafe Injection Practices Cambodia, December 1, 2014February 28, 2015 Mean Chhi Vun1; Romeo R. Galang2; Masami Fujita3; William Killam4; Runa Gokhale2; John Pitman5; Dejana Selenic5; Sovatha Mam1; Chandara Mom1; Didier Fontenille6; Francois Rouet6; Saphonn Vonthanak7; Roka Cluster Investigation Team "In December 2014, local health authorities in Battambang province in northwest Cambodia reported 30 cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in a rural commune (district subdivision) where only four cases had been reported during the preceding year. The majority of cases occurred in residents of Roka commune. The Cambodian National Center for HIV/AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (NCHADS) investigated the outbreak in collaboration with the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh and members of the Roka Cluster Investigation Team. By February 28, 2015, NCHADS had confirmed 242 cases of HIV infection among the 8,893 commune residents, an infection rate of 2.7%. Molecular investigation of the HIV strains present in this outbreak indicated that the majority of cases were linked to a single HIV strain that spread quickly within this community. An NCHADS case-control study identified medical injections and infusions as the most likely modes of transmission. In response to this outbreak, the Government of Cambodia has taken measures to encourage safe injection practices by licensed medical professionals, ban unlicensed medical practitioners, increase local capacity for HIV testing and counseling, and expand access to HIV treatment in Battambang province. Measures to reduce the demand for unnecessary medical injections and the provision of unsafe injections are needed. Estimates of national HIV incidence and prevalence might need to be adjusted to account for unsafe injection as a risk exposure." AUS-SSC Inc look to continue to assist and enable the staff and people of this community as well as many other. Please Help Us?! https://www.aus-ssc.org/

24.01.2022 Cambodia has suffered from COVID - not so much the disease but the flow on affects. 30% of Cabodia's GDP comes from Tourism. Many Cambodians need to work abroad to suppliment their incomes.
24.01.2022 So I am organising the next AUS-SSC Health Mission to Battambang District. For all those people who have been generous to support us I would like to offer my sincere and ongoing thanks. As always I am hopeful and thankful if people are able to continue this support. Money is always the most efficient way to help us purchase the medical consumables and equipment necessary to run the outreach clinics to the villages.... I understand that many people don't have the ability to commit cash. There are lots of ways that you can help. Donations of tooth brushes and paste is a great way to add to the Health Care Programs for Children's Health run out of the Jesuit Shelter for the Sick "Pet Yei Che". Also things like - hair brushes - combs - soap - shampoo - (travel shampoos from Hotels are great). These items all help to support the local Health Care Outreach Programs for the children of the villages of Battambang. We see lots of children who are at risk of malnutrition. - formulas such as Sustagen and Pediasure are very expensive and financially difficult to sustain. In October I purchased some Peanut Paste which has a high nutritional level - in Cambodia it cost me $5 USD. I have been stockpiling jars of peanut paste to take with us. I can get jar for about $1.50. If people want to buy a jar our two this will be greatly appreciated. I have a couple of Women's Health Care Programs at present as well: - menstrual pads and menstrual cups. I have purchased 1000 menstrual cups and am looking to educate and spread these through the villages. These cups cost m=us $USD 1. Also we have the production of reusable Menstrual Pads made in a local village for USD$4. This offers an affordable option for Women's Health. Also this program looks to offer a sustainable income stream for a group of women utilising the skills that they are learning as seamstresses - a program that the Jesuits are running to support education and vocation and reduce the need for splitting of families (many families have to leave their children and travel to Vietnam and Thailand to earn mony). We hope to support these activities in an ongoing basis through looking to create demand for local industry. People can commit to supporting the purchase of one Menstrual Cup or one Menstrual pad. For some general information please check out our web page and Facebook page: https://www.aus-ssc.org/ https://www.facebook.com/AUSSSC/ AUS-SSC is a registered Not for Profit Assocation - IA57982 We have an account that you can donate to : Westpac Ac: # 034-198 649811

21.01.2022 SO in October the feedback was I didn't have enough Nurses. In fact I was alone. I had seven remarkable Doctors - its just that when it comes to organising kits and clinics you just can't beat a Nurse, at least that is what I'm told. So I need some Nurse so I can have some successful Cambodian Health Clinics. Please join me.... Work with some amazing Cambodian Nurses and share your knowledge and skills. And make some life long friends! April 6th to 10th October 19th to 23rd See more
21.01.2022 In 11 weeks we head back to Cambodia to work with the Jesuit Mission in Battambang to assist with Health Care Missions with the staff of Pet Yei Che Shelter for the Sick. I have been going to Cambodia since 2013 and have developed a love of the people and a deep sence of Global Responsibility where I believe that those more fortunate have a need to support those most in need. It is painfully evident that need is plenty and that the means to support are strained. But we look t...o help where and when we can. Cambodians have a great need for assistance. In their rural subsistence they are at great need. We look to assist as a small cog in the greater mission of the Jesuits to offer Health Care, Education and Training as well as Health Promotion to those that would otherwise be unable to access these (what we consider basic) needs. Please Help: Money will assist us to - buy pharmaceuticals in country to treat remote villagers and the poor of Battambang as well. - pay for diagnostic tests that aid in treatment. - provide clinic stock for the continuation of care at Pet Yei Che through out the year. - provide training resources for Pet Yei Che and Roka Village Hospital. Many people are unable to offer cash donations. We are happy to accept donations of toothbrushes, tooth paste, combs and hair brushes, shampoo and soap, milk powder. These items help us to promote general hygiene and well being for the remote villages. We also are working with the Health Promotion Team to develop Women's Health Programs - re-usable Menstrual Liners and Menstrual Cups to promote dignity, health and wellbeing for the women of the district. Any help is welcome. See more

10.01.2022 2019 was a great year for AUS-SSC with two clinics in April and October. We were able to continue to the provision of the Health Clinics in the Jesuit's Health Shelter for the Ill - Pet Yei Che as well as Education and Training with the Nurses and Doctors in Pet Yei Che and Roka. We also have pushed on with our work in Woman's Health. We contracted a local village women's sewing group to manufacture reusable menstrual liners. We also purchased 1000 Menstrual Cups and worked w...ith a group of 25 local women as the focus group for this project which I hope will run in parallel to the menstrual liners. I am always thankful for the generosity of spirit that people have shown. Those that have returned to join us again. Those who joined us for the first time, and hopefully will again. And to those who have donated to our Not for Profit and have enabled us to supply the medication, medical consumables and other resources that make these health missions. So onto 2020 where I look to run two clinics again. April 6th to 10th. October - probable 3rd week depending on the lunar cycle of Pchum Ben. Please feel free to contact me if you are inspired by the work or even if you want a change of pace and an experience of a life time.
10.01.2022 What a great a successful year for AUS-SSC. This year was a first with a move to commit to two visits for the year to the Jesuit Health Clinic of Pet Yei Che, Battambang - an aim to sustain our commitment, education and training, as well as sustained support for local health care teams. We looked to continue our partnership with the Jesuit Mission in Battamabang, Cambodia. April saw a small but dedicated group of seven Aussies. October was a big group of 16 Aussies.... We have been blessed with an ability to include a variety of skills and abilities. We looked to continue our partnership with the Jesuit Mission in Battambang, Cambodia. an integral part of our ability to continue our activities.. We have been blessed with an ability to include a variety of skills and abilities and integrate art of our ability to continue our activities. My sincere thanks to all our supporters. 09.01.2022 So with COVID19 we sit in a holding patern. April was a wash. October looks uncertain with current suggested restrictions. Regardless, Cambodia is hurting. 30 percent of their GDP is from Tourism. That is gone. Many Cambidians travel to Vietnam snd Thailand to earn money to send home. This is affected by COVID19. For the Jesuit Health Clinic at Battambang visiting Health Teams are unable to visit. Therefore the vulnerable Cambodians of this district are unable to afford or access these health clinics.

07.01.2022 AUS-SSC has gathered Australian volunteers together over the last eight years. It always amazes and delights me that strangers can be brought together with a common goal. Volunteers pay there own transport and accommodation as well as raise money to equip the group, purchase medications and support the Health Promotion activities of Pet Yei Che Jesuit Shelter for the Sick. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated!

02.01.2022 In nine weeks, a small group of Australian Health Volunteers will head off to Battambang Province as part of AUSSSC's continued commitment to work with the Jesuit Services. This will be my eighth year working with the Pet Yei Che Shelter for the Sick out of the Jesuit Compound in Battambang city. From this small clinic we travel out to remote and rural villages to offer health clinics to those who would otherwise not have access. The Jesuit Mission focuses on helping the d...isabled and the poor. As a rural subsistent culture there are many poor and disadvantaged throughout Cambodia. There are also many born into poverty with a disability. As a group AUS-SSC look to commit to assisting, not only with health delivery but health promotion and health education. We look to commit to staffing medical clinics. In 2019 we extended this to two clinics in the year with the aim to offer some continuity in services provided. We look to continue this. Supply clinic equipment to sustain health clinics even when we are not in country. Supply medications to run the clinics and to help sustain the continued work of Pet Yei Che. Fund pathology and clinic tests to help the diagnosis of patients. Commit to basic life support education and skills. Offer health provision to the local Cambodian team so as to ensure that they are able to continue provision of health. Support education scholarships. Supply translators. Support womens health through the Menstrual liners and Menstrual Cups programs. Look to support local industry through aims to source stock and skills. The only way this can happen is through the support that the volunteers receive from their families, friends and colleagues. We acknowledge that currently a tough environment for a Not for Profit to continue to raise funds and continue our activities. All donations are important and greatly appreciated. Even small amount can make a huge difference to our ability to sustain these activities. https://www.aus-ssc.org/home See more
