24.01.2022 A great holiday home on Phillip Island
24.01.2022 While we test your safety switches at your workplace with our Sparkemate RCD tester and give both a time response and a milliamp tripping current, here is a good plan for your home RCDs/Safety switches.
24.01.2022 Not being one to sit still for long, during this down time i have updated the database i use to record all equipment service work. More for test and tag than other inspections the database will now include both the old tag barcode number and the new number in the electrical test data. Also looking at servicing my own equipment which is something i often put off.
22.01.2022 Recent testing of overhead tracks and portable lifting machines for a client. Bedrooms can be filled with personal possessions and care is needed to ensure no damage to the important items. One resident had a collection of precious items in a full glass display case so great care was needed. Room to move is tight sometimes. Might need to look at a smaller motorized trolley to make getting in and out easier!

18.01.2022 Many of us are being tested for our temperature, but have you wondered who tests the testers, WE DO. We can certify tympanic (in ear) thermometers with our tester and we can come to you to do it provided we can have access to a power point. Call Mark, during business hours on 0476 026 909
17.01.2022 Load testing in a respite home. Every hoist is important for lifting someone. Every hoist needs testing annually
16.01.2022 Time to think about winter gas safety
11.01.2022 Another part of the job. Load testing overhead hoists and tracks. AS10535 and WorkSafe both require annual load testing of patient lifting equipment to their full safe working load. Load testing can only be safely carried out with no patients or staff in the room. This is to limit the risks in case of failure of any part of the lifting system. In this case a 255kg SWL Guldman portable hoist system.
07.01.2022 What I know about hairy wheels! Each of these photos show the hair and 'stuff' removed from a single set of 4 lifter wheels on an annual service. - Carpet floors mean wheels pick up more hair than vinyl floors. - Wheels clogged with hair and 'stuff' make the lifter harder to push for staff. -Annual (vinyl floors) or 6 monthly (carpet floors) is justified to keep the lifter easier to push and use. -Washing hands after cleaning wheels is a must! You have no idea what the 'stuff...' might be! -Some service personnel do not clean the wheels on lifter as it is left for 'cleaners' to do. Not at AusStandard BLT, we clean wheels with each service. 05.01.2022 3 boxes of tested items ready to go east to support the fire affected people in East Gippsland. I am very happy to help other people, scouting and work combining.
05.01.2022 Marking of Patient Lifting Slings. There are a number of ways to identify your lifting slings but my preferred way is to use the manufacturers ID tag. Unfortunately some manufacturer's tags don;t last through regular washing. The suppliers that use sewn cloth tags seem to have it right. They last many washes, are easily readable and clearly identify the slings and their Safe Working Load (SWL) and Date of Manufacture (DOM) Many sites I attend use marker pens to write on the s...lings and there is some debate about the affects of the ink and solvent on the sling material. My preferred method if you must mark the slings is to mark the tag as these are not a structural element of the sling so if damage does occur it will not effect the sling structural materials. My ideal product to add a facility ID to a patient lifting sling would be a soft tag (possibly silicone) that is clearly numbered and connected with soft and durable connector. I have used numbered cable ties available but have had reports of them causing discomfort if placed in the wrong location or dragged under the client, so I no longer use them. I will keep looking for an ideal product for this task. See more

03.01.2022 Easter in isolation. AusStandard staff have been minimizing client contact as much as possible during this time. We are keeping in contact with clients who are due for service at this time and minimizing the risk to their residents and staff by maintaining their lock down rules. This has seen a reduction in workload but the safety issues far outweigh the need to maintain cash flow. Staff have completed DHS Covid-19 training module and will be getting the annual flu shot in the coming weeks as they become available. We have not been overseas nor knowingly in contact with overseas travellers since the lockdown started. We look forward to better times and will continue to support our clients as safely as possible.

01.01.2022 Gas safety is very important
01.01.2022 I have an OHS problem with some of my clients where the doorways and adjoining halls are too narrow to steer my electric weights trolley into the room and allow me to load check overhead hoists or tracks. I have to unload my weights and the frame and put them on my manual trolley to get into the room. Both the extra unloading and loading and pushing the loaded manual trolley needed a solution. My solution is an ebay electric wheelchair, modified to take the frame and weights. Now i can go from the back of the van into any doorway and test the hoist or tracks. Pictures of the wheelchair as I picked it up and the weights trolley after some modification and clean up ,and holding 200kg of weight.
01.01.2022 How to test your safety switch EnergySafe Victoria have a good resource on how to check your safety switches, or we can do it for you as well as checking your appliances and smoke detectors. https://esv.vic.gov.au/campaigns/household-wiring/
