21.01.2022 Have you checked your flares lately? There’s a good chance they could be out-of-date and you won’t be able to reach for them in an emergency situation Where can you dispose of your expire flares? ... Roads and Maritime maintains a program to help boaters dispose of expired marine flares, with mobile collections set up across NSW. Most flares have a used-by date of three years and they must be replaced before the expiry date. Flares contain explosive matter which makes safe and legal disposal difficult. To find out which location is near you to dispose of your out-of-date flares, click the link below. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//safety-equ/flare-disposal.html

20.01.2022 Miga-who? Mig-a-loo! Hes kind of a big deal. This famous white whale has been making the trip up to warm tropical waters for the last 30 years! This big boy needs his space. So please keep a distance if youre out whale watching and operating a boat, aircraft or drone.

19.01.2022 Have you ever wondered if Boat Insurance is compulsory? Imagine if something happened to your most treasured asset? We often get enquiries asking if by law yo...u have to have boat insurance to be out in the waterways. The straight answer is no you don’t, however a boat is an high ticket item and we would strongly advise you to protect yourself and your watercraft in the event of something going wrong. Boat Insurance is not compulsory, but offers the policy holder the confidence in knowing that their boat insurance provides coverage for not only their boat, but defence against third party liability claims and personal injury. If the weather looks bad, if there are heavy swells, strong winds, breaking waves, or the tide is running out, it is best not to try to cross a bar. 05.01.2022 BEFORE YOU GO AFLOAT Before you head out on the water consider these simple tips to assist in trouble free boating: Check that your boat is in good condition ... Check that you have all the required safety equipment on board. Ensure all safety equipment is in good condition and easily accessible in the event of an emergency and everybody aboard knows its location. Check the weather before you go out at bom.gov.au/marine/ Go easy on the drink. Waves, wind and weather multiply the effects of alcohol Make sure you have sufficient water and fuel for the duration of your trip Make sure your insurance policy has been recently reviewed and is up to date, just incase something does go wrong, you can count on us to be there

04.01.2022 If you hold a mooring licence in NSW remember that you need to provide proof that you've serviced your mooring apparatus each year. This is to help ensure your boat doesnt break away from it's mooring in a storm and damage other vessels and infrastructure. Visit https://bddy.me/2Zv0nHA for more information on our Mooring Audit Program.

04.01.2022 SAFE BOATING IS GOOD BOATING National Safe Boating Week might be over but safety while boating should always remain your number one priority. Before you go bo...ating always: KNOW IT means knowing the limits of your vessel. Before you go, make sure your boat is seaworthy and appropriate for your chosen activity. SERVICE IT means being a responsible boat owner. Boats need regular maintenance, servicing and safety checks to keep them ship-shape. PACK IT means carrying the right safety equipment. You'll need different items depending on your vessel type and whether you're in open or enclosed waters. CHECK IT means assessing the weather and choosing a suitable time and place to go out. Conditions can change quickly, so don't hesitate to head back in. If in doubt, don't go out. PLAN IT means planning your trip and telling an emergency contact where you're headed and what time you'll be back. Where possible log on and off with Marine Rescue. LEARN IT means knowing and following the rules and laws that keep all of us safe. Remember, boating safety is a responsibility we all share as waterway users. WEAR IT means wearing a lifejacket, the most important piece of safety equipment on any vessel. 04.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE.

03.01.2022 Open Water Safety

03.01.2022 Thank you to our first responders

02.01.2022 Inflatable lifejackets are easy to wear and comfortable but they require extra care and attention to ensure they will inflate in an emergency. Did you know? In NSW it is a legal requirement to service inflatable lifejackets every year or in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.... Most inflatable lifejackets can be self-serviced, depending on the manufacturer's guidelines Penalties may apply if your lifejacket is found to not have been serviced as required. Transport for NSW Boating Education Officers conduct free inflatable lifejacket self-service clinics along NSW coastal areas, lakes and rivers. The clinics aim to promote over awareness of inflatable lifejacket servicing requirements, and provide step-by-step instruction on the self-servicing process. Due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, face to face inflatable lifejacket self-service clinics have been postponed for the remainder of 2020 to ensure the health and safety of our staff and the community. As an alternative, Transport for NSW will be hosting online live stream inflatable lifejacket self-service clinics in October 2020. A list of upcoming inflatable lifejacket self-service clinics can be found in the registration section below. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//educat/lifejacket-clinics.html

01.01.2022 Sharing this for all of our Victorian Clients.

01.01.2022 For those thinking about taking a boat out or engaging in other water activities - as applies to everyone in NSW at the moment - if you dont need to leave your home, stay home. A reasonable excuse to leave your home to use your boat could be to: 1. exercise (e.g. kayaking/sailing/paddling/fishing etc); 2. get to and from work, where the work cannot reasonably be performed from home;... 3. get groceries; and 4. provide assistance, care or support to an immediate member of your family. Socialising or cruising on the water is not a reasonable excuse. If you have a reasonable excuse to leave your home, social distancing rules always apply including at the boat ramp and on your boat. Skippers must also remember their other safety responsibilities regarding safety equipment, alcohol consumption, keeping a proper lookout and proceeding at a safe speed. For the latest information about boating during COVID-19, please visit https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/covid-19-update.html
