21.01.2022 We've had many questions over mask wearing requirements and distancing for salons in Victoria and also other states. As of today in Victoria, here are the directives from the Victorian government: HAIRDRESSING, BEAUTY & PERSONAL CARE SERVICES: Density quotient of 1 per 2sqm applies, when using electronic record keeping. In venues not using electronic record a density quotient of 1 per 4 sqm applies. Face masks no longer required. FACE MASKS: Must be carried at all times. Mand...atory when inside shopping centres, retail stores inside shopping centres, department stores, electronics stores, furniture stores, hardware stores or supermarkets, when travelling on public transport or when travelling in a commercial passenger vehicle (unless a lawful exemption applies). Any person diagnosed or suspected of having COVID-19, or who is a close contact of someone diagnosed with COVID-19, must wear a face covering if leaving home/accommodation for a permitted reason, such as medical care. Face coverings are recommended, but not mandatory, when leaving home and physical distancing cannot be maintained, for example, while shopping. PS: Nice to see AHC member Tom Donato from Xiang Hair in today's Herald Sun

16.01.2022 From our CEO Sandy Chong and team AHC, we'd like to say a big Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to each and every one of our hairy friends across Australia and around the world. Thank you for your support in 2020 and we hope you have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable festive season!

16.01.2022 It's NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week and as we commemorate diversity in our cultures, we thought it would be timely to focus on textured hair and some of the challenges it can present in care and styling. And who better to chat to about this than AHC member Rumbie Mutsiwa. When Rumbie first arrived in Australia from Zimbabwe, she found a lack of hairdressers specialising in textured hair - wavy, curly and afro. She is a pioneer for curl...-confidence and a wealth of knowledge for textured hair types. Rumbie is now the proud owner of Rumbie Andco Rumbie&Co salon in Chippendale, Sydney and it's her daily mission to study, educate and care for wavy, curly and afro hair. "When it comes to learning how to style different hair types the industry is generally focused on anglo hair with little or no mention of curly and textured hair types and how to embrace your natural hair type," says Rumbie. It's because of this that Rumbie has created @thecurlmovement Facebook page, a platform where people can come together and celebrate their naturally curly hair. "We love working with our clients from different backgrounds and with different hair types," Rumbie adds. "Our salon is inclusive to all hair types and clients from all over the world. We especially love helping our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and have a high respect for our Gadigal people and land. Rumbie's top tips for caring for curly hair include; Understand the different your curl types and textures Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Get yourself well researched on curly hair products and ingredients Nail the night-time routine Ensure your team is specialised in dry cutting and caring for curly hair You can visit www.rumbie.co for more information on understanding curl types and looking after textured hair. Rumbie also offers educational sessions for smaller teams or individuals and is about to launch some virtual lessons very soon! #watchthisspace

15.01.2022 Good morning friends We are getting a lot of questions from salons regarding what pay and leave options are available to employees who need to quarantine or self-isolate because of coronavirus. Do you know about the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment?... The Australian Government has introduced a Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment for some workers during coronavirus. It is available to eligible workers in all six Australian states. The payment is available to workers who: - don’t have paid sick leave and can’t earn an income because they have to self-isolate or quarantine due to a positive coronavirus case, or - are caring for someone with coronavirus. For further information, please visit the following link: https://coronavirus.fairwork.gov.au//quarantine-self-isola

14.01.2022 2020 is almost over And what a year it has been! The pandemic caused so many emotions, little wonder we all feel like we’ve done a few rounds with Mike Tyson. There was fear, anger, bewilderment, sadness, melancholy but we also showed great resilience, kindness, persistence and innovation as so many of us had to think outside the square to reinvent our businesses and our lives in the ‘new normal’. Tough times create even tougher individuals, and now as we emerge from the... other side of COVID-19, we thank ourselves lucky to live in a country like Australia and send our thoughts and prayers to those overseas who are not as fortunate. In our final communication for 2020, we thought we'd give you a snapshot of what the Australian Hairdressing Council has been up to this year - and boy it's been a busy one! We've also got some exciting plans for 2021 that we'll give you a few hints about... So stay tuned. https://www.theahc.org.au//2020-a-year-in-review-from-the-

14.01.2022 STAND DOWN DURING CORONAVIRUS Question: I'm wanting to restructure my team due to the restrictions during COVID, but I'm not sure about the rules. Can you help? Answer: Employers may be able to stand their employees down during the coronavirus outbreak for various reasons, including when:... - the business has closed because of an enforceable government direction (which means the employee can't be usefully employed, even from another location) - there's a stoppage of work due to lack of supply for which the employer can't be held responsible - a qualifying employer or legacy employer uses a JobKeeper enabling stand down direction under the temporary JobKeeper changes to the Fair Work Act. Learn more about the different types of stand downs, rules for stand downs and what entitlements and obligations apply at the link below And if you have a question for the AHC, DM us on this page! https://coronavirus.fairwork.gov.au//stand-down-during-cor

12.01.2022 It's so heartening to see the ground swell of strength and support being sent to our friends in South Australia currently under lockdown, particularly from our Melbourne community, who's been there before. One silver lining from this pandemic is the increase in kindness and empathy that has developed all around us. When COVID first hit, there was so much fear and anger and self-centredness. This has now calmed considerably and transformed into an amazing support network and attitude of being all in it together. Sending strength SA, stay safe and we hope the next few days go quickly for you!
