25.01.2022 Fun fact: Tele-evangelist, Oral Roberts, conducted meetings in Australia in 1956 with mixed results. Forty years later, former AC President, David Cartledge, envisioned that AC would become a Christian university similar to Oral Roberts University. Today, we are closer than ever before to seeing this vision become a reality. Did you know that Alphacrucis College (AC) is making steps to become a university? Let us know your answer down below!

23.01.2022 Students all over the world have been celebrating their graduation over the past few weeks. The wonderful lady in this photo is Merle Nugent, one of the first ever #ACalumni to have graduated from what was then known as Commonwealth Bible College. Merle visited Alphacrucis College in 2018 for the College’s 70th Anniversary. The photograph beside her, which shows the commencement of CBC in 1949, is part of a timeline that is displayed outside the APSC. You can see Merle, wearing a floral dress, in the front row. We want to thank Merle for helping to pave the way for the many thousands of AC graduates that have since graduated and for the future #ACalumni to come. Thank you, Merle!

The Nicaean Creed was a huge turning point in Christianity, it outlines core beliefs that are still standard in many Christian churches today. 11.01.2022 Who loves reading? We certainly do and we have a couple of recommendations for you today! The APSC was officially launched on 6 July 2015, by Rev Dr Andrew Evans, former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Australia and former Member of the Legislative Council in South Australia. In 2017, the director of the Australasian Pentecostal Studies Centre, Professor Denise Austin, wrote a detailed biography of Rev Dr Andrew Evans titled: Jesus First: The Life and Le...adership of Andrew Evans. For the past three years, APSC has partnered with the Religion and Society Research cluster at Western Sydney University to host a Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianities Research Symposium. This symposium body provides an academic platform for critical reflection and rigorous discussion around the emerging cross-disciplinary field of Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies. This annual symposium has resulted in a recent high-quality collaborative book publication: Australian Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements: Arguments from the Margins, edited by Cristina Rocha, Mark P. Hutchinson and Kathleen Openshaw. Let us know what you’re reading in the comments!

10.01.2022 This excerpt is from the 70th Anniversary of what was then known as Richmond Assembly of God. The church has been known by many names in the past: Sunshine Gospel Hall, Richmond Temple, Richmond Assembly of God, Bridge Church, and now, Neuma. Led by C. L. Greenwood, it became a mother church to a network of Pentecostal churches in Australia. Has your church celebrated a milestone recently? Let us know in the comments!

09.01.2022 Did you know that the first Pentecostal church in Australia was founded by a woman named Sarah Jane Lancaster? In 1908, she founded Good News Hall in North Melbourne, the birthplace of the monthly magazine the Good News. AC has a large collection of Good News magazines, available in our Australasian Pentecostal Studies Centre archives and online (link in bio). 06.01.2022 In case you missed our last post, Yukana was a magazine published by Alphacrucis College from its early days until the early 1980s. The College, then known as Commonwealth Bible College, was established in Melbourne in 1948 to serve as the national training college of the Assemblies of God in Australia. It moved to Brisbane in 1949 and to Katoomba, NSW, in 1974. In 1993 the College’s name was changed to Southern Cross College, and in 1996 it relocated to Chester Hill, Sydney.... In 1997 a Korean language program was established, and in 1999 a correspondence program commenced. Since 2000, AC has commenced operating a campus in Auckland, New Zealand, has established a network of campus and delivery points throughout Australia and New Zealand, and has developed a comprehensive online program. In 2009 the college changed its name to Alphacrucis College (AC). Alphacrucis is the brightest star at the foot of the Southern Cross Constellation. If you’re interested in finding out more about the history of Alphacrucis College check out our collection of Yukana magazines in our eHive collection (link in bio) or get yourself a copy of Our College by Denise A. Austin.

05.01.2022 One of my favourite things about working with the archives is reading through old Pentecostal magazines and newspapers. I love reading about how issues and events were addressed at the time. It teaches me a lot about how humanity takes on life’s challenges and how we adapt over time. Jess, our archivist. Do you have a quote that you find fascinating? Let us know in the comments!

04.01.2022 Did you know that AC (originally known as Commonwealth Bible College) used to print an annual magazine called Yukana? Today, there are still so many ways to keep up with all that is going on in College life! To stay up to date with all things Alphacrucis College, follow Alphacrucis College and check out Crucis, a platform to share research and commentary on popular topics. Comment down below your favourite memory from your time at CBC, Southern Cross Bible College or Alphacrucis College (all previous or current names of the College).

01.01.2022 We’re celebrating FIVE YEARS of the Australasian Pentecostal Studies Centre today! While the heritage archives at Alphacrucis College have been in existence since 2001, the Australasian Pentecostal Studies Centre was officially launched on 6th July 2015. Since then, our collection has grown substantially making it one of the largest in the Asia Pacific region. To date, the APSC has digitised around 32,000 archives, including: videos, films, cassettes, denominational magazin...es, sermons, photographs and other memorabilia. Besides preservation, the goal of the APSC is also to encourage inter-institutional research projects in Pentecostal scholarship which will benefit the wider community locally, nationally and internationally. We welcome any donations of church archives, sermons, artefacts, denominational magazines, photographs and any other memorabilia. Let’s join together in preserving our Pentecostal and charismatic history!

01.01.2022 Coming Soon! Due to COVID-19, the James Wallace Memorial Library was presented with the opportunity to do a little refurbishing. As a result, the APSC has been closed to the public. The finishing touches are underway, and we are so excited to open back up to the public once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted! Have you done any lockdown projects recently? Let us know in the comments!
