20.01.2022 WARNING To all parents / consumers Please be careful when you buy your Hand Sanitizers or Surface Sanitizing Spray. Since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, there are suddenly a lot of fly-by-night people/companies that are selling these products, even at reduced prices.... All the reputable Hand Sanitizers or Surface Sanitizing Spray Cleaners that we can buy at registered retailers must go through a very stringent testing process before these products can be sold to the consumer. The large reputable manufacturers have either no or limited stock at present, so where do all these new companies come from with their cheaper product as large manufacturers have preferential pricing on large raw material volume. Questions you must ask yourself: The main question must be why someone will sell these products, in a time of shortage at such reduced prices, and where were these cheap products before the COVID-19 Pandemic? What was the price, at well-known retail stores for these products before the Pandemic and why are they so cheap now from the new suppliers. How do I know what is in the product I am buying, and will the sanitizer kill the Corona Virus or other bacteria on our hands or on critical surfaces? Am I using a product from these new suppliers that can be more harmful to my family due to possible toxic chemical ingredients that might do more harm than good? Am I giving this to my child to use without knowing if it is safe to use and fit for purpose? Will I buy bottled water for R2 per bottle from new unknown companies or people I do not know if there is a water shortage and the normal price is or was R10?? Questions to ask the people before you buy these products from them: Have you got a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product a legal requirement. If they do not have a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) they are more than likely not a reputable supplier. If they do supply you with a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) refer to Section 3 Composition/information on ingredients. This should list all ingredients in the formulation, including the H Codes (Hazard statements) and the P Codes (Precautionary statements). Does your product comply with the WHO (World Health Organization) recommended formulations regarding the various alcohol content percentage? How long has your company been manufacturing these products? Have your product been tested in laboratory or made in a shop with no testing? *If you are in any doubt about any of these products contact the Department of Health to confirm the safety of the product you are buying. Please be safe and use the hand sanitizers and surface cleaners to protect yourself, but make sure it is from a reputable company, fit for purpose and a safe to use.
