25.01.2022 A huge congratulations to our National Director Naomi Steer, a finalist for The CEO Magazine - Australia & New Zealand Not-For-Profit Executive of the Year. Naomi built Australia for UNHCR from the ground up from little more than a one person office in 2000, to raising more than $300 million from the private sector to support people forced to flee their homes by conflict, persecution and disaster around the world. For 20 years, Naomis dedication to protecting and supporting refugees worldwide and advocating for their voices to be heard has been an inspiration. Congratulations (and good luck) Naomi!

25.01.2022 "As teachers, we have a duty of care for the children we work with. But beyond that, I just couldnt turn my back on the injustice and unfairness I was seeing these refugee kids go through. I couldnt ignore the inequality. I wanted to help on the global scale by donating to Australia for UNHCR, but also within my own community and school. We should all be supporting." For Dorothy, supporting refugees is a huge part of her life which is why she's leaving a gift in her Will to make sure she has a lasting impact supporting the world's most vulnerable. This "Include A Charity Week" find out more information about leaving a bequest and read Dorothy's story here: http://ow.ly/eFSZ50BjA3v

25.01.2022 For best friends Habibah and Nasuma, the worst thing about school is the holidays. After missing out on so much school, they never want it to stop! Habibah and Nasuma are part of the Educate a Child project, which funds community-based learning to ensure refugee children can still learn when they're forced to flee their homes. They can learn to read, write and other essential skills to support themselves and their families. Only 63% of refugee children have access to primary... school, and they are often the most marginalised and hardest to reach. Since UNHCR's partnership with Educate a Child began in 2012, over 1.2 million out of school refugee and internally displaced children have been enrolled in primary education. Such an achievement!

24.01.2022 Many girls out of school will never go back. Life expectancy will fall. We also fear a near doubling in the number of people facing starvation. Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock wrote this powerful piece for The Guardian about the impact of COVID-19 on poorer countries around the world and why we must support them. Join us and stand with refugees worldwide during this pandemic http://ow.ly/ba4v50ByEmJ... http://ow.ly/rb5K50ByEmH

24.01.2022 I feel happy as the masks will be used by the refugee community and I contributed to my community. SBS News covered our Bangladesh mask-making project entirely funded by a generous Australian donor that is protecting the Coxs Bazar community from the coronavirus and empowering refugee women to support their families. http://ow.ly/ATie50BnNbJ

23.01.2022 Peace means returning to school. This Syrian refugee girl can return to school in Za'atari refugee camp now that restrictions around the coronavirus have eased. Students and teachers are taking every precaution, wearing masks, using hand sanitiser and extensive cleaning. Thanks to the cooperation with UNICEF, Jordan's Ministry of Education and other local partners, these children can get back to school and keep learning to secure a better future.

23.01.2022 "My role now is to inform the patient about how to protect themselves, and how to keep themselves safe." Salam is a trainee pharmacist and a Syrian refugee in Jordan. 21.01.2022 Love echoes around the world and our actions make a difference. Maria is from Cyprus and she was one of the winners of UNHCR's global art competition. 19.01.2022 For Mireille, the best Christmas present was being able to sleep in her own bed after the Beirut explosions in August last year. UNHCR's work isn't done in a day the work in Bangladesh continues. Thank you for standing with us for the long haul.

16.01.2022 My heart goes out to those affected by the fire in Moria. People had so little before this fire and I can only imagine the distress and hardship they are experiencing now as a result of this catastrophe. Our statement on the fire in Moria camp, Greece: http://ow.ly/SReQ50BmK7k

15.01.2022 My artwork is a pencil drawing of a grandmother from Indonesia, who I was privileged to meet and share an afternoon with. Her face shows wrinkles earned over a lifetime and her eyes show a softness from years of loving her family. I wanted to participate in sharing my artwork to support refugees. I live a life of privilege in Australia. To be honest I was shocked to discover kids like me and whole families, including people like this grandmother with a lifetime of history, are displaced. I cannot imagine having no choice but to walk away from all you have known. As my knowledge of the world grows with my education and my travels, my desire to help strengthens. I hope that my picture shows my support. Congrats to Matika, one of the winners of our Youth with Refugees art competition!

15.01.2022 Everyone deserves to live in peace and safety. This #InternationalPeaceDay stand with us as we strive to build a more peaceful world for everyone, including the 79.5 million refugees and displaced people globally #WithRefugees

14.01.2022 A precarious financial situation, the global pandemic, and now the recent explosion have made life extremely difficult for the people of Beirut Lebanese nationals, migrants and refugees alike. The Ibrahim family fled Syria in 2013. Father Khalil injured his back last year, so his wife and daughter have had to work to support the family. They rely on the support of UNHCR to make ends meet. Lebanon has always been a generous host community for refugees. Now it's our turn to support them as they rebuild. Donate today http://ow.ly/2tzH50BnPPa

05.01.2022 "How lucky we are as Australians to enjoy security and stability. I am also conscious that poor countries like Bangladesh and Lebanon have, for the most part, not turned their backs on neighbours seeking refuge. They now endure a huge burden in providing for the long term care of refugees. UNHCR faces an unprecedented demand for its services. Shamefully, 79.5 million people are forcibly displaced worldwide, over half of whom are children. Many of these have no other assistanc...e than what they receive from UNHCR." After working around the world with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Stephanie has seen the plight of refugees firsthand and decided to leave a bequest for Australia for UNHCR.
