24.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE PETROL PRICE MAZE HAS TO BE UNRAVELLED Denis Walford, upper house candidate for the Australian Motorist Party in this Saturday's state election has called on the incoming state government to place pressure on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to unravel the "petrol price puzzle."... "Motorists in Australia are being ripped off daily and no one - not the state government, the federal government or their agencies can tell us why," Mr Walford said. "Motorists have had a gutful with prices that fluctuate that bear no comparison to the fluctuations in the price of a barrel of oil - and no one is able to tell us why," Mr Walford said yesterday. Despite the fact that motorists are already among the heaviest taxed people, Mr Walford said the price of petrol was "another kick in the guts they don't need." "Governments talk about the cost of living and household expenses - well hello - petrol is a major part of those expenses - it is unavoidable," Mr Walford said. Mr Walford said that petrol has increased from just on a dollar to 1.37 a litre or more in recent weeks and the price of oil had not fluctuated anywhere near that. "It is ludicrous and a rort, and it is about time the State Governments put pressure on their Federal counterparts and conducted a Royal Commission in to petrol pricing in this country," Mr Walford said. "It is just crazy that everyone knows things are crook as - yet our governments don't," he said.

22.01.2022 The simulator in action!!

10.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE MINOR PARTY SLAMS MEDIA COVERAGE Denis Walford, the head candidate for the Australian Motorist Party in the Upper House at the forthcoming state election has slammed both the media and the major parties over their sidelining of motoring issues and road safety in the lead up to the election while young people are still being killed and maimed on the state's roads.... Mr Walford, a former national drag racing champion is campaigning on driver education for high school students and new and upgraded roads, said motorists, among the most highly taxed people are being almost totally ignored. "The media coverage of the election has basically been seen through a prism of Liberal and Labor stunts that both have been pulling in the lead up to the election," Mr Walford said. He said it was obvious that driver education was something that did not rate very highly with the media - even though the 18-25 years age group makes up a disproportionate amount of the deaths on the state's roads. "The government is talking poles and wires and the opposition is talking about koalas - it is almost as though road safety is a non-event." "I guess they would rather report on the deaths rather than the prevention - much more sensational," he said. "It seems the media would rather report on stunts and unattainable promises rather than look at serious issues that effects so many people from the carnage on our roads and the deaths of young people, not to mention life lasting injuries and the hardship that causes," Mr Walford said. Mr Walford is determined to see driving simulators introduced so high school students can learn the craft of driving in a safe environment and be aware of the dangers of the road at an early age. Mr Walford was demonstrating the simulator, designed for Australian conditions, with Australian roads and signage, at Darling Harbour last Friday and said he was "bloody disgusted" at the lack of response from the media. "If it is good enough for NASA, airlines, police forces and other such groups to train in simulators, why not kids - yet this important issue has been totally ignored by a supine media traipsing around in the slipstream of one stunt or another," he said. "I figured if we could save one teenager from dying on the road or from suffering horrendous injury, this is a worthy endeavour. "Apparently not to the state political correspondents in this state," Mr Walford said. Mr Walford said it is pretty clear that the major political parties are playing the media for mugs as they repeat the same story over and over and don't introduce issues into the political debate that affects a lot of people in this state. "No wonder the NRMA has had to run an advertising campaign telling voters to look at parties that have motoring issues high on their agenda - because the bloody media won't," Mr Walford said.
