16.01.2022 Last year, the NSW Government commissioned Professor Kate Barclay to undertake an independent assessment of the socio-economic impacts of the NSW commercial fisheries Business Adjustment Program (BAP). https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au//m/releases/2020/barclay-report Recommendations summary:... 1. Establish a social and economic monitoring framework for NSW commercial fisheries as a matter of high priority and urgency 2. Investigate further whether the levels of commercial debt incurred as a result of the BAP are damaging Industry viability, and if so, consider interventions to alleviate that debt 3. Consider instituting protections from changes to resource access in commercial fisheries management 4. Investigate more effective ways of doing consultation and policy development

11.01.2022 Victoria not only has COVID issues relating to Quarantine !! Turkeys, Chickens, Ducks, eggs etc all under pressure as VIC is largest producer in country and we won’t allow imports. SEAFOOD for Xmas opportunity!! Problem relates to Free Range...the more the poultry is in the open, the more susceptible to disease, that then spreads and next thing is lockdown, destroying birds, etc etc... https://amp.abc.net.au/article/12669544

08.01.2022 Nice to report good ending BUT... having an out-of-date Emergency Position Indication Radio Beacon (EPIRB) and having only expired flares on board. Additionally, SA Police also discovered Mr Higgins did not hold an appropriate recreational boat licence. 04.01.2022 YOUR FISH RESOURCES: SHOULD COMMERCIAL FISHERS PAY RENT and/or SHOULD THEY BE PAYING THE COSTS TO MANAGE THE FISHERIES THAT THEY HARVEST. This is a quote from... Reviews in Fisheries Science and the Paper Individual transferable Quotas as a fisheries Management Tool authors Dale Squires, James Kirkley and Clement A. Tisdell. As follows: It is noted in their discussions of Rent collection and cost recovery a comment from Commonwealth of Australia 1992 ‘Cost recovery in Australia disciplined both managers and operators and added to the search for innovative approaches to reduce management costs. It may also add to industry commitment to help ensure compliance. They then say; Cost recovery and administration need closer examination. If the only restriction on administrators is to recover their costs by fees, costs may expand to absorb whatever the fishery will bear, siphoning off any rents. The regulated industry may be able to bear the costs of administration without political turmoil, but total economic benefits from the regulation may be less than in an unregulated or more lightly regulated situation. (Tisdell, 1990, chap 9; 1991, p116 ) In the extreme case, a regulatory authority could adjust TACs to achieve monopoly prices and absorb all or most of the rent. It can be argued whether the fishery alone should pay for regulation. This may be a contentious issue with mixed goods (goods with both private and public good features), for example, seals and whales (Kuronuma and Tisdell, 1993). In practice, cost recovery is favoured over rent capture. YOUR NSW commercial fishers are now waiting for the outcome of the reforms and the planned increase in cost recovery. They remain waiting for the public release of the socio economic report by Professor Kate Barclay. Your thoughts as an owner of the resource are valuable here. Should commercial fishers be required to pay full cost recovery for the employees who you employ to managing your resource (fish for your table) should they be required to pay for the science and to pay for suggested on board monitoring? They currently supply records that they must report daily to DPI in most cases. Is this not a science currently utilised for determinations of total allowable catches. Do they not supply a fresh product for your consumption and health. See more

02.01.2022 The Victorian Community is losing its rights to its own fish let alone in curfew and in lockdown so just expect to pay more for Australian product and rely on other states to supply. The Victorian wild seafood harvest is not large, it has been in business for over 100 years and is proven to be environmentally and economically sustainable and has worked in cohorts with recreational fishers but sadly greed, political decisions, lack of following science and research, and many ...other factors will see Victorian consumers with a choice if they want to eat their own seafood - suck it up and accept it or catch your own! Meanwhile hundreds of businesses will suffer the consequences too - the supply chain losses will impact local jobs and economies just at the time when we need them. Dan Andrews as an ex Health Minister who supported the Seafood & Health Conference back in 2010 but failed to turn up, refused to engage with world health experts on Prevention better than Cure shows his colours by clearly proving he hides behind health issues to drive his own agendas!
