While the AIDP is designed to assist Indigenous members to meet entry standards, for Private Murgha, it was also a way to get used to the structure and culture of Army. Growing up in Yarrabah in North Queensland, Private Murgha initially found the move away from her family home challenging. ... 24.01.2022 This #RemembranceDay, families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Great War were finally able to put their ancestors to rest. Thanks to the hard work of Fallen Diggers Incorporated, #AusArmy’s Unrecovered War Casualties team and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the final resting place of five previously unidentified soldiers who served and died in France during the First World War were recently confirmed. Two farm dogs recently found themselves in the presence of uniformed friends from 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery after they wandered away from home while their owner, Barry, was in hospital. Affectionately nicknamed Morale and Biscuits, the dogs are now providing companionship to personnel at border checkpoints until Barry returns home. ... Private Norman Baird was an Indigenous Australian who enlisted on 2 August 1917 to serve in the First World War. His brother, Trooper Charles Baird, previously enlisted on 5 May 1915, serving with the 5th and 11th Light Horse Regiments. Now, over 100 years later, their great great-grandson, Private Clayton Baird is serving in the 51st Battalion, Far North Queensl...and Regiment. Serving over 820,000 cuppas over the last nine years, Aileen Stoddart, owner of Bean Around the MEAO, has been presented with an Aussie Hero Quilt in recognition of her hard work and support to #OurPeople. 22.01.2022 #AusArmy’s 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment conducted amphibious training at Pallarenda, Townsville earlier this month to test the readiness of its soldiers prior to the Joint Warfare Series later in the year. The Warfighter Exercise focused on foundation warfighting skills relating to 2 RAR’s amphibious role and saw troops conduct a night amphibious beach landing followed by reconnaissance and surveillance along the coastline. This was the first time 2 RAR conducted amphibious training at Pallarenda, enhancing the training experience for soldiers who were operating in a realistic and unfamiliar environment. #ArmyInMotion #ReadyNow #FutureReady

While taking photos at his unit, he caught the attention of #YourADFs 1st Joint Public Affairs Unit. 21.01.2022 #OurPeople from 1st Aviation Regiment - Australian Army recently hosted a unit family day! The family day was designed as a way to thank unit personnel and their families for their support to #AusArmy, as well as strengthen ties with the Darwin community. 21.01.2022 On Saturday 10 October 2020 the 50th Disher Cup Regatta took place on Lake Burley Griffin. The competition, named after Captain H.C. Disher of the Australian Army Medical Corps, provides healthy competition between the Australian National University and #OurPeople of the Australian Defence Force Academy and the Royal Military College Duntroon. Students compete in eight oared boats, racing a distance of approximately 3000m, to win The Disher Challenge Cup. ANU came out on top this year, receiving the Cup from the Governor-General after the race.

20.01.2022 Parlez-vous franais? When Private Houston Bodenhamer was recently in the Pacific as part of the Regional Presence Deployment 2020, his ability to speak French suddenly became very useful. Private Bodenhamer was part of the team who supported three Micronesian mariners who were stranded on a remote island. ... While providing support to the stranded mariners, Private Bodenhamer used his knowledge of the French language to communicate with them to check they were ok. Staff Cadets from the Royal Military College Duntroon have been busy completing their initial bayonet assault training. During the training, participants took a detailed course in how to conduct bayonet fighting, which included fitting the bayonet to a rifle and how to use the bayonet in close combat. ... 19.01.2022 Tank-you to Victoria for welcoming our teams into your communities as we work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. #OurPeople deployed on #OpCOVID19Assist recently participated in an Australian Federal Police social media campaign called #MaskUpMelbourne. Mask Up Melbourne aimed to raise spirits in Victorian communities as the mandatory wearing of masks was enforced across the state. ... The giant mask featured on a range of emergency vehicles, including Victoria Police cars, Ambulance Victoria vehicles, and now, the The School of Armours M1A1 main battle tanks.

19.01.2022 Budding #AusArmy Vehicle designer, seven-year-old Jack from regional NSW, has designed his very own M1-A3 Abrams Tank. Army recently received a letter from Jack and his father with photos and details of his great tank! Jack built his concept tank out of bright yellow LEGO, including everything from a Gun Shield to the Ship Shooter. We can’t wait to see what his next idea will be for the tank. There is always a spot for you with our Army Engineers. Great job Jack!

Using the rock climbing facilities at Gallipoli Barracks, personnel took part in climbing and rescue scenarios where they were required to ensure their own safety, and effectively extract life-sized dummies. As part of the Royal Australian Air Force Jericho accelerator program, #AusArmy Staff Cadet Oscar Fowler from the Royal Military College, Duntroon recently developed a prototype tracking system for chemical threats. Dubbed the Canary Sensor, this new technology will provide the joint force and other domestic support agencies with better awareness of their operating environment.... 14.01.2022 #YearInReview || In August 2020, #OurPeople from 1st Aviation Regiment and 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, on board Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Canberra, assisted with the location of a three-person boat crew that had gone missing in Micronesia. #YourADF had been asked for search-and-rescue support by the Rescue and Coordination Centre in Guam. HMAS Canberra sailed overnight to reach the search area, while crew from the 1st Aviation Regiment landed on the beach to ...deliver food and drink, and confirm the men’s identities. #GoodSoldiering

Today, on National Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Day, we acknowledge the vital role of #OurPeople in peace operations with the United Nations and Multinational Force and Observers. 13.01.2022 Meet #OurPeople || For Officer Cadet Sarah Flint, combining a passion for maths and physics with helicopters and aircraft was a no-brainer when she decided to study aeronautical engineering at the Australian Defence Force Academy. Officer Cadet Flint was drawn to the #AusArmy for the atmosphere, culture and training, as well as the career opportunities available in engineering. 13.01.2022 In October 2020 around 100 of #OurPeople from 1 Signal Regiment, in northwest Brisbane, participated in the Darkness to Daylight Challenge. Each member ran 10km overnight to raise funds and awareness of domestic family violence. The main event, usually a 110km overnight team run along Brisbane’s South Bank, was cancelled due to COVID-19. Instead, a virtual event was held during October.

Today, on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, we commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day. To celebrate the end of Exercise Diamond Catalyst, Commanding Officer of 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Simon Croft, auctioned off his parking spot for a week to raise money for Legacy Australia. #OurPeople from 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment won the spot, and the freedom to park a vehicle of their choice, for $400. ... 10.01.2022 As an #ArmyInMotion, #OurPeople are prepared to support Australians anytime, anywhere. In late December, soldiers from 3rd Brigade - Australian Army provided emergency water support to the Townsville City Council after a water pipe supplying the city ruptured. The team established a water purification capability at Mount Stuart Training Area to transport fresh, potable water to the Townsville University Hospital's main water tanks. ... The water purification capability is able to provide 400,000 litres of fresh water per day. #GoodSoldiering

The exercise gave #AusArmy personnel the opportunity to put the new vehicle to the test and it passed with flying colours. ... Before starting her career as an #AusArmy nurse, Lieutenant Parsons was working in a bank. 07.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday: Artillery ‘A’ Team This year marks the 150th anniversary of the formation of #AusArmy’s first permanent artillery units, the genesis of what is known today as the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery. The New South Wales Permanent Artillery Battery was raised on 1 August 1871 as part of the NSW colonial defence force, and was joined by No 2 Battery in 1876. Members of both batteries served with the NSW contingent to the Sudan campaign of 1885 to support Br...itish troops. A reorganisation of NSW artillery forces in 1893 led to the establishment of ‘A’ Battery, Permanent Field Battery of Artillery, and ‘A’ Battery. The story of his great great-Uncle, Private Christopher Wilson Carter from the Gunditjmara people, was shared for the first time during the Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial earlier this week. ... Private Carter fought and died in the second Battle for Bullecourt with over 7000 young men. This is one of many thousands of stories of Indigenous service and sacrifice from every conflict and peacekeeping mission Australia has been involved in. #GoodSoldiering

As part of the competition, soldiers took part in a number of activities, including section attacks, wire obstacle construction tasks, mine incident drills and casualty evacuation tasks.
