25.01.2022 Perched high on a prominent escarpment in the highest level of bushfire attack; Flame Zone, Eagle’s Nest aspires to balance and curate the experience of outlook and expansiveness of site, with privacy and seclusion. The restrained material palette heightens this experience of the site, landscape, and built form along with the changing dynamic of light and shade. Utilising the client’s expertise with off-form concrete allowed the floors, walls, and soffits to be one material with three different textures; burnished floor, sheet form walls, and board form soffits - all requiring no future maintenance whilst providing a disparate background for light and shade to interact. 21.01.2022 Located in Murrumbatemen, just outside of Canberra is the Shaw Wine Cellar Door designed by @oztalarchitects a phenomenal design utilising a limited palette, where concrete is key. Shaw Wine Cellar Door was a finalist in @aubydesign Architecture Series 4, search for Australia’s best architectural statement. If I was to describe something as having full flavour, a bit of body, taste and a very rare, refined and dignified palette I might be talking about wine, but no I co...uld be talking about this building. by creating this wedge, this concrete angle you create all these dynamic spaces, which helps you move through space and the concrete wedge here was critical to creating all these beautiful sensations. This central, strong concrete spine was the key to unlocking the design of the building. Watch the segment on Shaw Wine Cellar Door Below. 17.01.2022 Ocean House combines the clean lines of a contemporary concrete house with the warmth and tactility of a humble beach house. Mills chose to give the house a subtle interior, to better suit the idyllic setting. Pale concrete surfaces are complemented by whitewashed wood and monochrome furnishings. But the effect isn't minimalist, according to Mills, rather it is subtle and calm. Read more: https://www.dezeen.com//ocean-house-rob-mills-great-ocean/

16.01.2022 Hungarian design brand Sekhina has made a series of light switches and plug sockets from concrete as an aesthetically pleasing alternative to plastic. "We thought they would look and feel fantastic, so we created them," he added. "You can now find the very first completely concrete cover of switches and sockets, made from only silicates more sustainable and more beautiful." According to the designer, concrete is an appropriate material for switches and sockets due to its electrical insulating and non-flammable properties. Each piece has a unique design, featuring various bubbles and marks on its surface as a result of the moulding process. Read more: https://www.dezeen.com//sekhina-concrete-light-switches-p/

16.01.2022 This modest, 880 square-foot cabin for a young family sits at the end of an old logging road, its compact volume hugging the edge of a small clearing in a remote Wisconsin forest. The meticulously detailed project takes advantage of readily available materials used in the region’s farmstead architecture. On the outside, exposed concrete, cedar, anodized metal, and cementitious plaster all echo the muted, earthy hues of the surrounding forest and rock formations. The material palette extends to the inside, where integrally coloured polished concrete floors on the two main levels provide sufficiently durable surfaces against the periodic abuse from cross country skies, dogs, and muddy hiking boots. 15.01.2022 The new Perth Children’s Hospital located in Nedlands was designed and built by a collaboration of architects, designers and builders creating a 298-bed hospital that is filled with colour and a sense of playfulness that demonstrates a beautifully detailed building can make a real difference to the professionals, children and families. Perth Children’s Hospital has just been voted the Best Architectural Statement in Australia Australia By Design Architecture Series 4, sea...rch for Australia’s best architectural statement. The entire project has been built with a flexibility-in-design approach meaning the future of the hospital can increase in height and rooms can be transformed to respond to the growing needs of the community. As the final concrete pour was completed in 2014, over 138,000m3 of concrete had been laid with construction at 65%. Watch the segment on Perth Children’s Hospital Below.

15.01.2022 Villa Eze is a new family dwelling set on a secluded site above Parlsey Bay Reserve and Sydney Harbour. An L shaped plan was adopted to create a private enclave maximising northern views of Sydney Harbour and minimising the presence of neighbouring houses. The movement from inside to outside is intentionally manipulated as a strong and provocative juxtaposition. One moves across the threshold of seamless sliding doors (over 25 linear metres of open facade) from the concrete house (man-made and containing) to the courtyard open to the Harbour and sky (to be enveloped in the limitless sky). 15.01.2022 Concrete, plaster and tiled surfaces offer a "quiet" backdrop to the pieces on display in this pared-back rug showroom in Sydney, Australia, designed by Studio Goss. "When we first saw the space it was dramatic but a bit disjointed and visually messy, so our initial focus was on paring things back to bring a sense of clarity to the internal volumes," studio founder David Goss told Dezeen. 12.01.2022 Living spaces within Andra Matin’s, IH Residence in Bandung, Indonesia, are linked together by a thread of interconnected gardens. The home was not designed as a beautiful shell from which to enjoy surrounding views, but instead as a place where the garden is no longer restricted to the backyard. Flowing water, lush greenery, and tranquil rock gardens breakthrough solid pre-cast concrete walls until they become seamlessly woven into all interior experiences. 05.01.2022 The use of exposed concrete in 'House with Ten Pines' combines support structure, space and expression of the house. It is a rest house implanted in a dense pine forest in the city of Pinamar, on land that has a sloping downward slope towards the back. Construction is primarily a response to where it sits. A semi-buried platform is created as a socket for more private use, on which a more open volume that contains social functions rests.
