25.01.2022 Happy World Ozone Day! There's much to love about this gigantic invisible shield of gas. For one, it protects the Earth by limiting harmful UV radiation from the sun to help preserve life on our planet Today marks 35 years since the adoption of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer. It reminds us of what the world's governments can achieve when they come together for the greater good

25.01.2022 Australia has two wildly successful clean energy funds, driving renewables for nearly a decade, investing in the future - and making money for the Australian public in the process The best thing the Morrison government can do to tackle climate change, reduce emissions and transition to a low-cost clean energy system is protect the integrity of the CEFC and ARENA. Not corrupt them by forcing them to subsidise old dirty fossil fuels like gas

25.01.2022 There are fewer than 1000 numbats left in the wild. But a population 'explosion' at Dryandra Woodland has thrilled scientists and provided cause for hope

24.01.2022 This is fantastic news! ACF has been campaigning for years to stop plans to bulldoze almost 2000 hectares of woodland in a crucial Great Barrier Reef catchment area. Environment Minister Sussan Ley MP today *rejected* the proposal to clear threatened species habitat at Kingvale Station on the Cape York peninsula

24.01.2022 A HISTORIC MOMENT Today we delivered our largest petition ever to Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo) and the Minister for the Environment Sussan Ley MP. 409,908 Australians signed the petition demanding the government strengthen our national environment laws, so they *actually* protect nature. 409,908. Thats roughly the population of Australias capital city. Mr Morrison, Minister Ley, it's not too late. Listen to the experts, listen to the people.

24.01.2022 Adani claims there are no more barriers to it turning its climate-wrecking Carmichael mine into a reality Well, to that we say:

23.01.2022 BREAKING: The Australian platypus is at risk of extinction. This unique species has disappeared from an area almost three times the size of Tasmania in just 30 years. Research led by UNSW reveals new dams, the over-extraction of water from rivers, land clearing, attacks by foxes and dogs, pollution and urban sprawl are the main factors driving the decline. A coalition of UNSW researchers, ACF, WWF-Australia and Humane Society International has nominated the platypus to be lis...ted as a nationally-recognised threatened species. Platypus protection needs two important actions: 1. Rapid assessment for listing as a threatened species; 2. Stronger national environment laws to protect all the wildlife and nature we love.

23.01.2022 The US president-elect Joe Biden has promised to make climate change a core priority, with a pledge to re-join the Paris agreement, canvas a White House office on climate change and launch a bold plan for climate action. Meanwhile in Australia ... the Morrison government has no target, wants to use public money to subsidise fossil fuels like gas, gives money to ageing coal-fired power stations, and plans to corrupt Australia's public green banks by forcing them to invest in fossil fuels. No wonder 3,400+ health professionals have no faith in Angus Taylor MP to do his job as emissions reduction minister.

23.01.2022 Are you part of the blue rinse set?

23.01.2022 Today is a dark day for nature It is devastating. But we must act to stop this disastrous bill in its tracks. The government wants to wash its hands of responsibility for looking after our environment. And they want to happen fast, without transparency or the opportunity for scrutiny. Well, we say NOPE. We must be the voice for our unique wildlife.... Head to the comments to take action

22.01.2022 Pandering to the fossil fuel big wigs in the National COVID-19 Commission, the Morrison government has announced $52.9 million in public funding for the gas industry and wants Australians to help pay for a new gas-fired power station Make no mistake, this is devastating. Subsidising the fossil fuel industry is a disaster for people and the planet. As we move into the next fire season and as temperatures once again begin to rise, now is the time to be taking action on the climate crisis, not adding fuel to the fire. We need a COVID-19 recovery that builds community resilience and moves Australia forward to a renewable future

22.01.2022 Radioactive waste risks our air, soil and water But a new Senate report today shows there is no consensus on the Coalition's proposed radioactive waste dump on South Australias Eyre Peninsula. Australians deserve better than an approach which lacks credibility, is inconsistent with international standards, and shirks the questions about what to do with the worst waste. Click on the link in the comments to sign the open letter to Resources Minister Keith Pitt to keep radioactive waste sealed away and out of our communities

21.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS Environment Minister Sussan Ley MP has just introduced a bill to hand environmental protections over to the states. Make no mistake, this is a disaster for nature. We need one, uniform and overarching approach to protecting our environment, not every state handling it differently. We must demand laws that actually protect nature, and not ones that rush to weaken them.

20.01.2022 Australia's endangered southern cassowary is a rare sight, even in their homeland of Far North Queensland. Their tall helmet (casque) will grow throughout their entire life, similar to how our nose and ears dont stop! @clayhawkerphoto

20.01.2022 Victoria’s massive energy efficiency plan is good news for jobs, good news for renters and good news for the planet. A $797m pledge will look to cut power bills and greenhouse gas emissions. It’s the biggest investment in any state’s history!

20.01.2022 Australia's world-leading clean energy funds could be gutted under a Morrison government plan to force them to invest in dirty fossil fuels like gas. The Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) are hugely successful. Let's keep 'em that way - clean.

20.01.2022 CLIMATE: It's an emergency! NZ: Action stations! Zero carbon by 2050. Let's do this AUSTRALIA: * gives public money to gas and coal *

19.01.2022 The grey-headed flying fox is essential in the survival of our great Australian Eucalypt forests. But it is disappearing before our eyes. Over the past 50 years, numbers have decreased dramatically due to a continual loss of habitat and the changing climate Sign the petition to demand laws that *actually* protect nature! https://www.acf.org.au/environment_laws_petition

19.01.2022 Today marks National Bilby Day! Did you know that the reason why we have 'Chocolate Bilbies at Easter is to raise awareness of the their vulnerable status? There's an estimated 10,000 bilbies left in the wild Speak up to protect the bilby from extinction by signing the petition demanding stronger environment laws: www.acf.org.au/environment_laws_petition

18.01.2022 TOGETHER, WE MUST ACT. Tomorrow, laws that would hand over legal protection of our environment to state authorities will likely be introduced to parliament. This is a disaster for nature Our environment is a national issue, from protecting the Reef to the Tarkine to Toondah. We need stronger laws and we must not rush to weaken them.

17.01.2022 This solar farm is good for locals, jobs, the community, the planet and ... sheep! The University of Queensland built the Warwick solar farm to offset 100% of its electricity use through its own renewable energy asset. The output is about 160GWh per annum - enough to power more than 25,000 households. Our roadmap to the future is paved with renewables. Together, let's Recover. Rebuild. Renew.

17.01.2022 This week in parliament, the Morrison government is trying to rush through a bill that will weaken our environmental laws. And they want to do it fast, without transparency or scrutiny Join nearly half a million Australians and demand stronger national environment laws! Sign the petition: www.acf.org.au/environment_laws_petition

16.01.2022 Angus Taylor MP deems wind and solar energy not the focus of the roadmap". The Morrison government's lack of investment in renewables technology will drag Australia back to a polluting, climate-wrecking past fueled by fossil fuel interests with deep pockets. Our recovery from this pandemic must be paved with renewables, not fossil fuels like gas

16.01.2022 It's time to choose the future we want. We cannot allow short-term politics and fossil fuel industry self-interest to stand in the way of collective climate action. Together, we're a powerful force for the change we need

16.01.2022 Do you have an animal plush toy? We need your help! On October 1st our plushies will step in for us humans to protest for strong laws to protect nature #beforeitsgone Together lets make extinction visible. RSVP now to take part.

14.01.2022 Gas is no friend to our climate or our Aussie farmers The production of gas will worsen climate change and deplete or contaminate groundwater which is crucial for agriculture. If all Australia's gas reserves were extracted it could unleash up to three times the annual carbon emissions of the entire world. ... Farmers for Climate Action

12.01.2022 This morning, the QLD government committed half a billion to invest in publicly owned renewables. This investment will increase the amount of regional jobs and transition the sunshine state to a clean energy generation. We look forward to all political parties in Queensland committing to renewable energy for a better future for the state.

12.01.2022 Australia needs a federal integrity commission with teeth - one that has the power to investigate allegations of corruption and uncover deep networks of influence in politics.

11.01.2022 Leaves are sprouting rain is falling and the parched soil has had a long, cool drink. There is hope But we must continue to act on climate change.

11.01.2022 Look at this beauty! Nothing like an echidna to brighten up your daily walk This one was spotted just outside Melbourne. Remember, keep a distance from wildlife if you stumble across them!

11.01.2022 Look at this little one! Absolutely guaranteed to warm your cockles

11.01.2022 Today marks the global day of action for School Strike 4 Climate Over 600 communities across the country stood strong to demand the Morrison Government fund a clean and just economic recovery by creating thousands of jobs that will fast-track solutions to climate change and transition Australia to renewable energy. #FundOurFutureNotGas

11.01.2022 It's National Wattle Day The Acacia pycnantha (golden wattle) is a part of the most diverse and widespread group of plants in Australia. Plus, they smell incredible during this season. There's much to be buzzed about since it's also the 1st day of Spring!

10.01.2022 The plan will create 6300 construction jobs and 2800 ongoing jobs - mostly in regional NSW - and deliver 12 gigawatts of renewable energy and 2 gigawatts of storage, largely pumped hydro. NSW leads the way on a clean energy future

10.01.2022 Just watching 2020 go past...

10.01.2022 This is an absolute shocker. Australia’s per capita emissions are 3x the G20 average What’s worse is that our federal government doesn’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to investing in renewables or even phasing out coal. The rest of the world is pacing ahead while we’re sorely lagging behind. The Morrison government must commit to a net zero emissions target by 2050 *NOW*

10.01.2022 Want to be a wildlife hero? This summer is expected to feature extreme weather events across Australia. To help you care for native animals in your town or suburb, ACF has produced a handy wildlife care guide for bushfires, floods, droughts and storms. Your help can go a long way. Find out more: acf.org.au/wildlife_care_guide

09.01.2022 Australia’s biodiversity just got a lot richer." Scientists found not one but three separate species of the fluffy flying marsupials. Finding two new mammals is news worth celebrating

07.01.2022 "In the most ambitious energy plan in the country, the NSW government will support the private sector to build $32 billion of renewable energy infrastructure by 2030 as the state faces the end of coal-fired power generation."

07.01.2022 CHOOSE YOUR FUTURE One where our clean energy funds - the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation - remain committed to renewables Or one where these agencies are corrupted by forcing them to to invest in gas (a dangerous fossil fuel) and unproven carbon capture and storage ... Today, the federal government announced it wants to take the fossil fuel path. Our road to a cleaner, more resilient future is paved with renewables.

06.01.2022 The Morrison government is all but alone in its climate position - with every major industry group, every state government and the federal opposition all now backing the target of net zero emissions by 2050 Australia can be a clean energy superpower , rich in jobs for a resilient future. The government will hold us back if it refuses to commit to cut climate pollution.

05.01.2022 Let’s look out for one another (including our feathered and furry friends!) during this weekend's heatwave. Keep hydrated and stay in the shade

05.01.2022 We've just experience the hottest November on record With summer now here, we will be tipping into more frequent extreme weather conditions. To solve this unprecedented climate crisis we must demand a fast and fair transition from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy.

05.01.2022 Here is a photo of a now-extinct species. Australia's Bramble Cay melomys is a furry friend well never see again, but its been highlighted in a new global report warning nature is in accelerating decline and needs our help. Now. The fifth Global Biodiversity Outlook says governments must strengthen environment laws to avoid 'extinction debt'. The Morrison government should abandon its rushed attempts to further weaken nature protection and give our unique wildlife and biodiversity every chance it can get.

04.01.2022 They've estimated less than 300 critically endangered swift parrots are left in Tasmania Without urgent habitat protection, we may lose the native species due to severe deforestation and decades of forestry mismanagement. We must demand stronger national environmental laws to protect our wildlife.

04.01.2022 Meet the 'dumpster-diving' clever cockies adapting to suburban life.

03.01.2022 REVEALED: A new Australia Institute report commissioned by ACF finds that if all Australias pipeline gas projects go ahead, they would release three times the annual carbon emissions of the entire world. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Gas is a fossil fuel that massively contributes to the climate crisis. It cannot be part of Australias COVID-19 recovery.

03.01.2022 The first major report on the impact of bushfires on platypuses finds there was a 14-18% decline in platypus populations in fire-affected areas in the nine months following last summer's catastrophic bushfires On top of extreme weather events, the platypus has had to cope with dams built on rivers, land clearing, attacks by foxes and dogs, pollution and suburban sprawl. Listing the platypus as a threatened species is an important first step towards putting this much-loved Australian on the path to recovery.

03.01.2022 Australias 20 World Heritage sites are at risk The federal government is trying to walk away from its responsibility to protect and conserve these areas. This is an absolute disgrace. We need international support to urge our Environment Minister, Sussan Ley MP, to strengthen our national environment laws, not hand over federal powers to state governments. To mark National Threatened Species Day, we have joined forces with other conservation groups to request international... support from UNESCO before its too late. Australian Marine Conservation Society, BirdLife Australia, Bob Brown Foundation, Colong Foundation for Wilderness, Environmental Justice Australia, Fight For Our Reef, Humane Society International Australia, Protect Ningaloo, Queensland Conservation Council, Tasmanian Conservation Trust, The Wilderness Society, WWF-Australia

03.01.2022 Happy weekend! It's been a rough week. We hope you get to relax as much as this big'n

02.01.2022 Keep cool this weekend

02.01.2022 Outrageous. While everyones distracted by the pandemic, the Morrison Government is trying to ram through disastrous changes to gut our environment laws, before anyone can ask questions. Weve united with five of Australias biggest environment groups to launch a huge advertising campaign the Morrison Government cant ignore. Share our hard-hitting ad now as it hits TV & billboards. Together, lets get this message in front of hundreds of thousands of people! Share and tag Scott Morrison (ScoMo) & Sussan Ley MP

02.01.2022 If our federal government continues to push to devolve power to states and territories on our environmental laws, they will also accelerate extinction rates. Today, the NSW Coalition government is rushing to debate the Local Land Services Amendment Bill which will unravel over two decades of progress in koala conservation UPDATE: NSW's koala bill has been dumped after Liberal MP Catherine Cusack crossed the floor and voted with Labor, the Greens, the Animal Justice Party and Independent Justin Field in favour of the inquiry.

02.01.2022 The Morrison government wants to rush through changes to our national environment protection laws that would be a disaster for nature. We must stand up for our wildlife Kudos to these crossbenchers!

02.01.2022 Gas, both literally and metaphorically, stinks It cannot be part of Australias COVID-19 recovery. If all of Australias planned gas projects go ahead, they would release three times the annual carbon emissions of the entire world. Here are some facts about why a gas recovery would be a disaster for people and planet

02.01.2022 "This is an absolute affront to our democracy." The Morrison government last night shut down debate on its disastrous changes to our national environment law, denying scrutiny of a bill that would allow it to wash its hands of nature protection. Thank you to the independent MPs, Labor and the Greens who stood up for nature in our parliament. Helen Haines MP Rebekha Sharkie MP Andrew Wilkie MP - Independent Member for Clark Zali Steggall

01.01.2022 CRISIS IN NSW Nationals leader John Barilaro wants to take away protection for koalas, pushing the NSW Government to the brink of collapse. The Premier wants to save koalas, but Mr Barilaro is willing to split the government if he doesnt get his way. Live in NSW? Tell your MP you want to save the koala: acf.org.au/email_nsw_government_koala

01.01.2022 Gas is a fossil fuel that drives climate change. Today the Morrison government has given the tick of approval to the controversial Narrabri gas project This plan will wreak havoc on 1,000 hectares of land that includes the Pilliga forest, home to 28 threatened species and precious koala habitat

01.01.2022 Energy Minister Angus Taylor MP wants to use public money to subsidise the fossil fuel industry by investing in unproven carbon capture and storage. Nature already has the solution Annette Ruzicka Photography
