19.01.2022 Robert William Lane -Tex Morton was born 104 years ago on the 30th August, 1916 in Nelson, New Zealand.. Known as the Australasian father of country music, he speaks the grand words of "You Will Never be Missed".. You will find his hand print down in the Hands of Fame Park, his plaque on the Roll of Renown rocks and of course that marvelous bust made by Peter Latona in BiCentennial Park. The original place for his bust was almost exactly opposite where he used to pitch his t...ent when traveling with his show so many, many years ago down near the old George Street area of Tamworth. (now part of the flood wall). However, he is sadly missed even today.

18.01.2022 I thought I would share this as it really depicts what has been happening on the land these past years of drought. Annemarie.

15.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE HORSE The 1st of August is the official birthday of all horse. Today we celebrate their birthday and acknowledge friendship, loyalty, achievements and sacrifice that the horse have given to us. They appear in all walks of life.................transport, farming, industry, war, sports and recreation.... Country Music, over the years, has acknowledged the horse affectionately in song and verse, "Mandrake", "Rocky Ned", "Pharlap", "Gunsynd" and "Paleface Adios" come to mind, just to name a few. The statue of "Gunsynd" can be viewed as you drive through Goondiwindi, Queensland and the "Paleface Adios" statue can be found in Temora, New South Wales. Hilary spoke with Erica Taylor (our famous Top Ranking South Australian equestrian who represented Australia at the 1988 Olympic Games and is a.k.a Rickie Jones on Country Music recordings) on Thursday and was told that Erica had been riding horses since the age of three. During the course of the conversation Erica also said that "We owe so much to the horse. In exploration (the pack horse), the "farm tractor " (the plough horse) of past years on the land, to the family friend whom I rode to school each day and currently the equine racing industry and the rodeo scene. Yes, the horse has brought joy to us all and I love their loyalty and friendship". In honour of all that the horse has given to us, let us wish them all a very Happy Birthday today. 14.01.2022 VP DAY Victory in the Pacific 15th August 1945 75th Anniversary As we remember and celebrate this important event which finally ended WW11 let’s read some of our artists reflections ..... Les Partell speaks of when he enlisted into the RAAF in Melbourne in 1944 I hope that all who can recall that VP Day and its history will pass on those memories to their folk; so that it won’t be forgotten. It’s so important. Zeta Burns recalls I was living at my grandfather’s home inToowomba at the time, and heard lots of shouting and yelling out in the streets after hearing Ben Chifley announce on the radio the end of war on that memorable Wednesday morning at 9.30am, 1945. The late Larry Dulhunty QX27614 was a member of the 2/6 Australian Independent Company 1942-1946 and served in jungle warfare in New Guinea as a commando. Some of his skills were later seen in his terrific travelling shows through his boxing and shooting acts. As a commentary of those times lets listen to the Glen Innes, NSW born Jim Wesley’s great song White Crosses in the Jungle. The late writer always said it was one of two of his best ever compositions. This version is sung by Gary Ellis from Melbourne, who knew Jim and also acknowledges this important day in Australia’s history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYVuG2M8HZk

05.01.2022 For all fans of Australian country music

05.01.2022 What a beautiful song and the words still ring true today as our world is even more so full of "speed, corruption and greed".

05.01.2022 For those of you wanting to know whether the Museum has reopened: Unfortunately, due to the structure of the Museum, it would be very hard to maintain 'social distancing'. Also, because of the nature of the exhibits, it is impossible to follow hygiene requirements due to how much damage doing so would cause.... Therefore, the Museum will remain closed until further notice. Rest assured, you will be the first to know once we are given the go ahead. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Annemarie
