25.01.2022 Update on Plaques!! I am in the process of filing out Monumental works forms to submit to council! Dad and I have decided to get my very talented stonemason brother in law (Reigan from Master Gordons Collection) to make 2 headstones out of polished stone to house the plaques so they are up off the ground! I will post a picture of the sketch when we finalise dimensions etc...

22.01.2022 Here is a copy of Giobatta’s Land Purchase This document proves he was the first owner of Portion/Lot 221 on CL40.85 East Stowe, he purchased it from the crown for 26 5s on the 15th of March 1875 which happened to be the same day he was naturalised!

21.01.2022 So my Bro in law sent me this sketch of the idea we have to house the plaques I am submitting to council tomorrow. He is hoping to make the stones out of green serpentine which I think will go perfectly with the plaques!

20.01.2022 On this day 151 years ago Giobatta and Mary Ann’s first son Lorenzo George Crosisca was born!! Happy Birthday great granddad!!

20.01.2022 This Land with the name G.Ferguson on it was the original location of the Clyde Hotel before being moved to the Calliope Historical Village.. Giobatta also leased the land with the name SA Smith on it from 1900 to 1905 to run cattle I believe! I found a record for cattle brand license for Giobatta from 1896.

19.01.2022 Portion 221 East Stowe, on 104 acres and 2 roods situated on Leixlip Creek, Calliope. I believe that this property may have been part of Calliope Diggings, but will investigate that further. Giobatta, Mary and all the children (except Evelyn) lived here. I am still researching when he purchased land but this plan proves he was definitely there in 1875 and possibly the first owner! Giobatta sold it in 1885/1886 and purchased the Clyde Hotel.

17.01.2022 Another amazing find by my husband...If you look in the bottom right hand corner you will see where the Clyde Hotel was!!

15.01.2022 So my amazing husband found this plan in his archives yesterday!! How awesome is this!! The plan was created and dated 1875/1876. He also contacted NRME Qld for me to chase down the original Deed of Grant of Land for the purchase!! They told him that the records would definitely exist but they haven’t been scanned onto the system yet.. so a request has now been made to find and scan them and email them to me.. can’t wait!!

06.01.2022 The Clyde Hotel back in the day!!

05.01.2022 Hi All, Today was a great day for 2 reasons!! Firstly I heard back from Gladstone regional council and I have great news, they have confirmed that council did indeed removed the plaques from the calliope cemetery and that they have them at the council chambers in Goondoon Street and said I can collect them and have also offered to help me through the process of having them put back, there are a few forms to fill out and no doubt they’ll have some fees they want paid so I w...ill get onto that next week and I’ll keep you posted on my progress! The second reason was that I also received a response from the titles office about Giobatta’s land at Leixlip Creek and they have found them and they are ready for purchase so I’ll also keep you updated on this!! Cheers Kaz See more
