25.01.2022 Introducing another of tonight arrivals Sweet little Scotty Jack Russell Scotty is so excited to be safe in foster care and freed from the pound, ... He is of young age (still to be confirmed) and just the sweetest boy ,from what we have seen so far he sure does loves his humans and is settling in well, he enjoyed an evening walk followed by a nice bath, some #Prime100 loaf for dinner and is currently enjoying a nap on the couch before bed. We look forward to sharing his updates once he has had a chance to settle in. Not ready for adoption

25.01.2022 Meet today’s new arrival MishMish Border Collie x Heeler x Labrador ... Female Guessing age around 1 We picked her up from a pound today Such a little Gem Mishmish is the SWEETEST! had her showered and fed and she is already feeling like a brand new dog. She’s been so happy all afternoon however still has her timid moments. Fetch is her middle name! She was a bit scared of the balls at first but once she warmed up we couldn’t get her to stop chasing the ball and bringing it back. She is so loving with non stop cuddles and kisses look at that tongue Not yet ready for adoption but stay tuned for more updates

20.01.2022 Drake Update Pudelpointer 6 years Fluffy Boy Drake has been an amazing man on his walks and always greets people in the most friendliest way.... He is very alert and will let me know when someone is at the door by giving a good bark, as soon as he is acknowledged he goes back to whatever he was doing before. He has a deep voice when he finds it but its all noise and no nastiness at all. Drake loves to be around people but is quiet happy to watch out for his sisters whenever he is in the yard which is now most of the day, given Drake is not interested in toys , he has personally taken on the role to watchOi over the Guinea pigs (in a secure cage at all times). Such a kind hearted boy! His beautiful personality is really starting to shine and he always greets me with a loving smile (it’s true he really does smile like this ). Drake is not ready for adoption we would appreciate no calls or messages. Thank you.

18.01.2022 Mona Lisa Update 15 weeks old Kelpie x Ridgeback This little girl is just full of character she has her foster Mum & Dad absolutely smitten. She's so playful and bouncy and takes off everywhere in a hurry, but will gladly find a comfy spot on top of you and sleep for hours....Just the most beautiful girl! ... 17.01.2022 Asta update: 8 year old Blue Heeler Absolutely a treasure She’s settling in really well into her foster home. She has found her place on the couch each evening but does appear to have been raised as an outdoor dog. She isn’t toilet trained and she like spending time outside just chilling by herself.... She’s very quiet, and loves to lick her foster mummy all the time. She is a very affectionate dog and enjoys rubs of her belly. When not doing these things she’s happy to just chill by foster mum’s side. I don’t think she’s had much experience on the lead as she does a bit of zig zagging, and wants to sniff everything. Asta really loves her daily walks and despite getting on with age, is still quite active. If given the opportunity she enjoys a roll in the grass...and also in other dogs business if you aren’t paying close attention . She does scare easy, especially if someone comes up behind her or from the side. But in general is quite affectionate to strangers. We’ve learnt that she is ok around other female dogs, but will give a snap warning to male dogs if she thinks they’re getting a little too close to her. Today she had a visit to the vets to be desexed have a skin tag removed, and a general health check, so is currently a little out of it, but still in good spirits Not yet ready for adoption

16.01.2022 Jessie’s Girl Update English Staffy x Age 1-2 years What a loveable girl Miss Jessie is! ... She had settled in so well from the beginning and made herself right at home. Even claiming one of the couches as her own! She is very well behaved on walks and seems to have no issues with other dogs or people. She had been getting lots of attention from kids at the local shops too and seems to love it. Jessies girl will require a home offering enrichment and plenty of stimulation to keep her mind occupied especially whilst you are away out of the house. She’s very gentle but can often jump up forgetting her manners, we are working on this and making good progress. She absolutely LOVES cuddling on the couch and will take any chance she gets to curl up with her head on your lap. She is a very gentle soul and definitely doesn’t like loud noises. Trains and loud cars have spooked her a couple of times on walks, but will continue walking once the noise passes. She’s really adapted to spending lots of time inside and it’s obvious this is not something she is used to, beautiful Jessie is glued to your side when she is inside and always needing to be where her foster humans are and know what they’re doing. In saying that however, she is very happy to go outside and spend some alone time exploring and enjoying the backyard. Not ready for adoption we would appreciate no calls or messages Thank you

16.01.2022 Pringle update The beautiful little Pringle Maltese boy is settling well into his foster home What we can update you so far Pringle loves to go on daily walks He is fine to hangout in the yard by himself ... Pringle has tested well with other gentle dogs But Pringle is definitely a one man / woman dog This little man definitely attaches himself to one person and one person is his entire world This boy will make a lovely companion boy for a single person it seems at this point Not yet ready for adoption

16.01.2022 Opal Scottish Deerhound x Boxer 13 months Our beautiful girl has come-so far in the last week ... Today she was up early and off to the vets for her desexing surgery and her confidence was lovely She said hi to a couple of other dogs in the car park and trotted in beside me into the clinic Considering this sweetheart has never been lead trained she did sooooo well Opal is very dog social and has the sweetest temperament She is gorgeous with kids, and just and all round kind and loving girl Not yet ready for adoption but stay tuned for more updates

15.01.2022 Introducing our sweetest new arrival The beautiful. Staffy girl Remmy This adorable girl is just a wee 10 months old and just divine ... She already knows how to sit and drop and her recall is lovely Remmy is a happy loving and affectionate girl who seems to be ok with other dogs too She is now safe in one of our beautiful foster homes while we prepare her for adoption Not yet ready for adoption

13.01.2022 Hiya beautiful supporters Just to give you an update on what’s happening with dogs arriving just this week We had 6 come in today local pounds ... We have 2 arriving tomorrow from interstate pounds We have 3 arriving Friday from Melbourne pounds + 2 cats We have 3 surrenders coming in Saturday And that’s what we know of so far and yup things change very quickly The wheel has turned , pounds are full and the surrenders are coming into our email daily The reality of covid easing and Xmas bearing down at the same time is now very real It’s a very emotional and sad time to be in rescue watching this unfold so quickly in the past 2 weeks We have never been under so much pressure with trying to find room for all the kids now unwanted Please bare with our volunteers who manage the inboxes as we are a small admin team and are doing our absolute best to answer you but as always our priority is caring for our fur kids Take care

12.01.2022 Crash Update Heeler x 2 1/2 years. Crash is settling in beautifully and having an absolute blast running around and playing fetch. He is playful, but not too rough.... At home he likes to chill on the couch next to his foster mummy and sleep on her bed at night. He also likes to let her know when someone is passing by the front of the house. He has a lot of the heeler personality traits, so will be sure give you lots of his love. When out walking he likes to say hi to others dogs and also tries to join in the conversation between his foster mum and other people . His barking is usually out of excitement and wanting to get you to play with him, so isn’t all the time, but can be loud. He’s fantastic with other dogs and has amazing recall, so is great to walk in off-lead areas. Not ready for adoption- Stay tuned for further updates!

11.01.2022 We just received a lovely update on our former rescue Pup the gorgeous Blaster (American Bulldog x American Staffy) Blaster is now 5 1/2 months old and now weighing over 20kg and so dearly loved by his forever family . The Transformer pups were surrendered into the rescue at just 4 weeks old, we would so love to see an update on Blasters litter mates Firefly, Megatron, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Jetfire, Optimus Prime & Mirage

11.01.2022 Hi AK9 Community, With the Christmas pound dumpings already starting sadly many dogs are being dumped at the pound and on the list to be euthanised and will die if we do not save them. We desperately need your help PLEASE we are seeking foster carers for all breeds and sizes, preferably from pet free homes in the northern suburbs of Melbourne in the following areas ;... Wallan Whittlesea Mernda Doreen South Morang Millpark Wollert Epping Greensborough The reason we are so specific in the areas is that as apart of our foster program at AK9 we need to be in close proximity to all of our families for emergencies so if you are not in these areas it is not logistically practical We are seeking preferred homes with Preferably no dogs, no cats Preferably children to be over 10 years of age People with dog experience. All food , bedding , toys and vet bills are paid by us and dogs are generally in foster 3-5 weeks . 11.01.2022 Meet the sweetest little old lady We have called her Mabel Mabel is an older JRT who we picked up from a pound today The second pic is her photo on the pound ... The first pic is 10 minutes after arriving in one of our beautiful foster family homes Mabel is very loving, great with other dogs and loves the small children Her teeth are rotten and green We have booked her a dental surgery Her left eye is being removed on Tuesday and we will see what our vet says about the right From what I can see it’s not looking very hopeful but this little sweet lady has an amazing temperament so I’m sure if we end up removing both eyes she will manage with her head held high She is just gorgeous and so very gentle Not yet ready for adoption but stay tuned for more updates

10.01.2022 Dumpling 10 week old Staffy Hydrocephalus puppy Blind ... So a quick update on our little fella Firstly a big thanks to our friends at SODR for the borrow of Dumplings Halo As our little boy is blind he is becoming a bit of a handful to keep him from running into EVERYTHING!!! So today we got him the Halo and this will stop him hitting his head . He is doing so well and his medication seems to be giving him more of a zest for life and boy is he full of beans When he is awake he just wants to run, bite everything ( sensory as he can’t see ) and eat He is booked for his MRI on the 15th December to get a full plan of where to next but in the meantime Dumpling is getting 24 hour supervision and care Such a little fighter

10.01.2022 Meet new arrival 12 month old Maremma Male ARC ... This beautiful sweet boy unfortunately was a bit rough with sheep so we are now refocusing him with poultry So far he has taken well to his 3 ladies and things are going well Arc loves water and mud , typical Maremma and will happily lay in the heaviest of storms Arc is brilliant with other dogs so would be great as a part of a working pack Not yet ready for adoption

08.01.2022 Muzza update Labrador x English Staffy 2 years Muzza ... Laziest boy ever. He does so well being left alone and just takes the opportunity to sleep on our bed. He’s been awesome! Walking is such a breeze he LOVES other dogs he will whine until he gets to them. He loves kids and is so friendly with strangers. He’s gaining a lot of confidence and is showing his more playful side. He recognises his name which is also great. He looooooves belly rubs like every other dog but if you stop get ready for some paws and scratches. He’s so quiet and to himself most of the time, loves eating and snoozing. He’s an all round well behaved and awesome boy Not yet ready for adoption

05.01.2022 So while at the pound today picking up the kids I met this #notadog He was such a smoochy friendly boy that he won me over and we are driving back Friday to pick him up Yea he is # notadog but damn he deserves to live too

04.01.2022 Snow Bear update Maremma 7 months Male ... So one of our newest Live Stock Guardian boys has now started to settle in and getting used to ways of farm life Bear is living very harmoniously side by side with 20 chickens and 2 peacocks and doing exceptionally well He shows magnificent guardian traits for a young dog and will bark at anything that comes near his feathered friends I’m also very pleased his breed trait wariness of people is also very apparent I see great potential in our new floofa baby to be a great addition to a poultry property Not yet ready for adoption

04.01.2022 Burger update Wolfhound x Bullmastiff So it’s been a while since we have done an update on Burger ... The reason was because our beautiful gentle big fella has been unwell Poor Burger has had so many vet trips and been poked prodded , ultrasounds , blood tests , Xrays etc etc Long story short our sweetheart has had an infection in his tummy which caused him to have a very high temperature and become lethargic Great news is after a few courses of different antibiotics and lots of rest and TLC he is well on his way to recovery The beautiful Burger is such a lay back gentle giant I’m sooooo happy he is going to be ok Bonus is we have had absolutely EVERYTHING checked so when he gets his new home his bill of clean health will be outstanding Not yet ready for adoption

04.01.2022 Meet one of today’s newest arrivals Red Heeler ( deaf ) Female Age to be determined ... Saved from the pound today We have named her Twistie This baby is so freaking sweet. I am mind blown with how anyone has given her up. She loves fetch, sticks or balls... shes not fussed! She is definitely deaf, I vacuumed before she didn't flinch She can sit, her table manners are just beautiful. My son was eating his sandwich on the floor and she just watched from a distance. She even had a play at the park with the kids. Shes melted my heart already Not yet ready for adoption but stay tuned for more updates
