25.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day! The mental health of nurses, midwives and students is so important. We have a range of tips and resources to maintain good men...tal health. If you are worried about your mental health or the well-being of a colleague and would like to talk to someone you can call us 24/7 on 1800 667 877. https://www.nmsupport.org.au/mental-health

25.01.2022 It's heartbreaking that the rhetoric from the President and conservative media outlets in the USA makes healthcare workers' jobs so much more difficult when all they want to do is save lives. https://fal.cn/3aOqA

24.01.2022 The Federal Government is responsible for staffing laws that govern the majority of #agedcare beds in the country. They are the ones who need to mandate minimum levels of staff & skills, a proven way to reduce mortality & increase quality care. QLD & VIC State premieres have done it for their state-run aged care beds already. Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Greg Hunt MP Chris Bowen MP Ged Kearney

23.01.2022 Sending strength and solidarity to our American colleagues. The work you do every day and night is important. Stay safe. https://fal.cn/3bO1v

23.01.2022 I really loved midwifery and the sense of being able to make a difference on something that’s going to last. When you’re with women and they have their baby you know that your time together is very short but what happens in that time is very important and lasting. https://fal.cn/3aPKJ

23.01.2022 Since 2014 aged care providers have received more than $66 billion in federal funding, but they aren't required to publicly report how a single cent was spent. How is this good fiscal management? How do we know we are getting what we paid for? We need federal politicians to pass the Senator Stirling Griff Financial Transparency Bill. Malcolm Roberts - Pauline Hanson's One Nation Pauline Hanson's Please Explain

21.01.2022 The Morrison Government wants to freeze our super guarantee. It’s already law that workers super should increase from July 2021. If they freeze this, it means nurses would need to work an extra 4.4. years to make up the retirement savings. #SaveSuper

21.01.2022 Please help us improve nursing care to people with intellectual disability and autism by filling out this quick and easy survey. https://fal.cn/3aT13 Open to all registered nurses across Australia until October 23rd.

21.01.2022 Child poverty in Australia can have a lifelong impact on the health outcomes of children. The Corona Virus Supplement has helped lift women and their kids out of poverty on the old Newstart. We need to #RaiseTheRateForGood #APW2020

20.01.2022 The ANMF Federal Office wishes to thank all Victorian nurses, midwives and aged care workers for their extraordinary efforts in serving the community during the 2nd wave of COVID and in ensuring Victoria remained COVID-free for 28 consecutive days! We’d also like to acknowledge the broader Victorian community for staying the course, sticking together and minimising risk so everyone can enjoy all the things we love about Victoria in the new COVID-normal.

20.01.2022 "These are businesses receiving over $21 Billion in Commonwealth funding every year for residential & homecare services. For that kind of money you would expect real accountability. You would expect providers to show what that money is being used for." Senator Stirling Griff had the second reading of his Aged Care Financial Transparency Bill read in the Senate today. Leave a message on Pauline Hanson's Please Explain and Malcolm Roberts - Pauline Hanson's One Nation page to ask them to support the #AgedCareTransparency bill this time.

20.01.2022 Trickle-down doesn't work. When we raise the well-being of everyone, all Australians can prosper. We need our governments to focus on solutions to ending poverty. Solutions such as raising the jobseeker rate for good and creating more affordable and social housing. https://fal.cn/3aRfh #APW2020

18.01.2022 Nurses Paycheck lets you know nursing wages from around Australia. The new quarterly issue is now available. Nurses Paycheck is free for current ANMF, NSWNMA or QNMU members or $35 for non-members per quarterly issue. Go here for more information http://anmf.org.au/pages/nurses-paycheck

18.01.2022 "Knowing how much knowledge is held in our elders, it was worrying if even one case got in." The Yolngu community truly value their elders and had a strong plan to keep them and the rest of their mob safe during the spread of COVID-19. Yolngu filmmaker Siena captured their lockdown story for ABC Radio National #LockdownStories

17.01.2022 Nursing homes desperately need more nursing hours to provide safe, effective care outcomes for residents. Care can't wait. The Counsel Assisting recommendations do not go far enough. We need more nursing hours now in aged care, not in 2-4 years' time. We have submitted this feedback to the Royal Commission which you can read here: https://fal.cn/3bxtn

17.01.2022 Check out this futuristic Norwegian public hospital! Norway has a strong public health and welfare system delivering modern hospitals like this one, the Akershus University Hospital (Ahus) in Lørenskog. Twenty-two-year-old nurse Lars posted the clip of it on his Tiktok channel.

16.01.2022 Aged care providers have been given specific funding to employ an onsite lead person for infection prevention and control by 1 Dec. Has this happened where you work in aged care? Let us know through this quick, one minute survey: https://fal.cn/3bQEA

15.01.2022 The nights are not quiet in aged care. Staff are stretched to their limits, unable to deliver the care they want to their residents. There is no rule for there to be a nurse in a nursing home. There is no rule to have a minimum amount of carers per shift. It needs to change with aged care ratios as law. Mark Butler MP Clare O'Neil MP Ged Kearney

14.01.2022 The fight still continues. Solidarity with all essential workers on the frontlines. Artist Zucchini-Fowler is a Denver based street artist who pays tribute to all essential workers with his street murals. He is donating the digital images of his murals to hospitals and healthcare workers to use in any way. He only asks that all proceeds of his images go towards research and treatment of COVID-19. Check out his art here https://austinzart.com/

12.01.2022 What does Richard Colbeck, the Sports/Youth/Aged Care Minister do at his place of work? He doesn't seem to be doing much for aged care reform but likes to give out more taxpayer money with no strings attached. We need transparency and accountability! https://fal.cn/3bxmK

09.01.2022 Market forces have failed private aged care residents. There is no federal law for a nurse to be in a privately-run nursing home nor a minimum number of carers each shift for the number of their residents. COVID-19 has exploited this understaffing to devastating effect. Mandating staff ratios in aged care is a national emergency. Dan Andrews is prepared to act for quality care are you Scott Morrison (ScoMo)? Read more details here: https://fal.cn/3bNg1

09.01.2022 Aged care is a national emergency. Nurses, aged care workers & unions are in Canberra today to fight for meaningful reform in aged care. The Morrison Government response to the Aged Care Royal Commission Special COVID-19 Report recommendations do not go far enough to address the chronic understaffing, low pay or lack of transparency in aged care. #agedcare #auspol

09.01.2022 Australian nurses, doctors and aged care workers tell the ABC how they're dealing with COVID-19. Their work needs to be recognised, respected and truly valued with safe staffing laws, secure jobs and the safest, fit-tested PPE. https://fal.cn/3aU7q

08.01.2022 Nurses and midwives make a difference every day. Take a look as Médecins Sans Frontières / MSF celebrate the essential work nurses and midwives do in their communities around the world. https://fal.cn/3bVAh #SupportNursesandMidwives #YearoftheNurseandtheMidwife

07.01.2022 This is the behaviour some providers choose if there is no law for a minimum level of staff & skills and financial transparency on aged care funding. Greg Hunt MP Clare O'Neil MP Mark Butler MP The ANMF has delivered 28 submissions, appeared as witnesses, attended forums and roundtables to deliver the evidence of nurses and carers to the Royal Commission. It is up to our federal politicians to urgently act for #agedcare. Final Report due soon.

06.01.2022 "We need the right number and mix of nurses and midwives to deliver safe care. We need to know our jobs are secure. This is how the value of our work is recognised." QNMU Secretary Beth Mohle has penned a heartfelt opinion piece on the tireless work of nurses and midwives through this pandemic

06.01.2022 It's what we need to truly start reforming aged care: mandated staffing ratios with minimum staffing levels and a skills mix; legislated requirements for clinical governance, leadership, and expertise; legislated transparency and accountability measures; guaranteed workforce capacity and capability; ... regulation for currently unregulated care workers. https://fal.cn/3dEdw See more

05.01.2022 Nurses, midwives and other health care professionals are evidence-led. The ANMF Federal Office National Policy Research Unit looks into the latest evidence on safety & reactions regarding COVID-19 vaccines. https://fal.cn/3dEnH

05.01.2022 We need to make it so that workers are paid super on every dollar earned, not giving the highest income earners the biggest super tax breaks. Everyone deserves a dignified retirement. https://fal.cn/3bJWv

04.01.2022 Workplace mental health hazards injure thousands of workers each year, just like physical hazards but they often fly under the radar. A mental hazard at work can be poor support to workers. Managers, supervisors, or co-workers providing practical assistance and emotional support to workers can help workers get through challenging situations. If it's not there - it can become a mental hazard. Learn more about workplace mental health at www.mindyourhead.org.au

03.01.2022 Nurses and midwives know that for COVID-19 to end for Australians, we need to end COVID-19 for everyone. The Federal Government has committed funds to the End COVID For All project. Thanks to all who shared in this collective activism.

03.01.2022 Victoria has recorded its 14th day with 0 new cases and 0 lives lost to COVID-19. What great collective work by Victorians, their government and especially the healthcare workers who sacrificed much to fight this on the frontline.

03.01.2022 Queensland aged care worker Robert wants providers to show how much federal taxpayer funding is spent on food, staffing & medical supplies for their aged care residents. It would make a fairer system for all Australians. Federal politicians have a chance to vote on a bill that will make this happen. It's time for politicians to act for frontline Aussie workers and pass the Senator Griff Transparency Bill. Malcolm Roberts - Pauline Hanson's One Nation Pauline Hanson's Please Explain

02.01.2022 Appropriate PPE is every health care worker's right to work safely. The world looks to the World Health Organization (WHO) which is why the ANMF along with nursing organisations in 24 countries across the world, have written to the WHO demanding it strengthens its guidance on #COVID19 to help protect health care workers. https://fal.cn/3bSvY

02.01.2022 Women have already been hit by the 2014 Abbot super freeze: By the time a 52-year-old single parent, full-time nurse retires she would've lost an estimated extra $27,000 in her retirement savings to it. It's time to fix the gender super gap with real solutions: https://fal.cn/3bHlu

02.01.2022 Victorian Premier Dan Andrews wants to make guaranteed staff & skill ratios happen in privately-run, federally regulated aged care. He is willing to do the work and has asked the Scott Morrison Federal Government to help make it happen. https://fal.cn/3bPvS

02.01.2022 How can nurses, midwives, doctors and other health professionals best contribute to action on climate change?
