23.01.2022 2 new NIF sets sit at the dock in Carrington not long after being unloaded awaiting formal delivery. Will we ever get back to local rail manufacturing for rail fleets in NSW??

23.01.2022 Our FS carriages supported the Australian Flying Scotsman visit. Thanks Richard Robinson I didn’t know that.

23.01.2022 The NorthConnex tunnels are finally opening on Halloween - Saturday 31st October 2020. Check out the drive through video below or take a tunnel tour on their website: www.northconnex.com.au #NSW Roads

18.01.2022 Something a little bit different today. Below pictured is the old RAAF Base Dubbo siding branching off the Molong Dubbo Line. This was the first facility on the... Molong Line heading out from the Dubbo Triangle. The other side these locked gates which were strictly only for military service trains were two igloo hangars which were accessible by standard gauge rail where Air Force personnel would load aircraft parts and motors particularly during WW2 and by the end of the War smaller freight volumes and goods would come in and out. Today nothing remains in the yard itself except the remains of tracks in these two hangars the tracks between here and the siding where I stood as you can see are all gone. Very different to the days when Wagga RAAF base was serviced by rail on the Tumbarumba as Wagga’s base had a main line going right through it where as Dubbo’s was a locked siding. I’m not sure why the two were like this. In all honesty this is a large block of vacant land in the centre of Dubbo and would of suited perfectly for the new rail maintenance centre that’s coming to Dubbo - it had the vast land government owned, it had the rail access the siding etc without impending other nearby tracks in the process. All of this and yet the state government thought the best idea would be to impread and tear out the already chocked and congested Dubbo Rail Triangle and plonk the maintainace facility there. They desire to turn where the existing molong corridor meets the Triangle into a driveway for maintenance staff workers and slice out existing lines to fit a facility in a place a facility shouldn’t even go. The maintenance facility would of been a great use of the former RAAF base. So illogical is the governments dumb ideas to turn where the molong line meets the city triangle into a driveway this is all the while Alkane and the Toongi Zirconia Operations have conducted studies and costings on reopening the 30km of Rail from Dubbo to Toongi on the former Molong Line! They intend on using this corridor for there operations, a move I highly commend as the overgrown and weed infested corridor is a eyesore in Dubbo. The location of the new maintenance fleet will be a disaster given the already choked Dubbo network and the influx of dozens of passenger trains and carriages to be serviced at this new facility in a city with so many closed off level crossings huge freight volumes and a government with a sitting local member who are willing to let more freight clog the city such as coal trains from Ulan to Mt Piper all because they don’t want to reopen the Mudgee Railway line. Dubbo’s rail freight capabilities are being stretched to their absolute maximum and those who are only interested in the line life of sod turning exercises aren’t near concerned enough of the fact one day at present projections and freight centralisation such as grain that a place like Dubbo will not cope. Dugald Saunders MP where the hell are you? Where the hell is Infrastructure NSW in all of this I ask? On another note it’s so great to see some action finally taking place at the old RAAF Base Dubbo after so many years of inaction and it can be largely accredited to Mayor of The Dubbo Region - Ben Shields, the amount of times I would drive past the site and shake my head in disbelief at the eyesore and inaction from Dubbo Council and the fact that the government had let this sit come to this before doing anything was really quite outrageous. John Barilaro Gladys Berejiklian Paul Toole MP Andrew Constance MP As images are all my own I give full permission for use and sharing with rail and related stuff

18.01.2022 SAFETY WIN - this (early) morning members stood up to the NSW Government for safety and had a win. At around 4.30am, we received confirmation from Transport fo...r NSW that the Mission Readiness Exercise would be cancelled! Thankfully the dangerous NIF operating model will now not be tested on the Intercity network this weekend. Further, Transport agreed that it would immediately enter into a series of meetings with the Union to discuss and resolve the issues that members have been raising about the New Intercity Fleet for years. NSW Trains members are now returning to work having shown that standing together as a Union can, and does, produce results!

17.01.2022 Anyone know someone who might be able to help Jan

16.01.2022 Did you know that some trains can take up to 14 rugby fields to stop at a level crossing? Even if a driver can see you, they can’t stop.

16.01.2022 Sydney Airport once had 3 runways before it was reorganised.....along with a railway line running thru it. This setup was not good and a crash in the 1950s between a train and plane took place.

11.01.2022 6:15am update: Preparations are taking place to resume some services on the Trainlink network. Updates will follow once services have been confirmed. Flow on de...lays and some disruptions may still impact TrainLink services throughout the day. 5:30am: Transport for NSW have advised that due to industrial action, trains on the Newcastle-Central Coast Line are not running today, Friday 27/11/2020. This is because the new InnerCity Trains, bought and built overseas are unsafe and the drivers Would have been forced to test them on the tracks today. Our Railway workers refuse to put themselves, their workmates, and passengers at risk by allowing these unsafe trains on the tracks. Well done to Rail, Tram and Bus Union NSW Branch for putting the safety of workers and the public first.

09.01.2022 Serious safety concerns have been raised about the NSW government's new intercity fleet of trains. A scathing independent report found flaws in the operating sy...stem, including problems with the CCTV cameras. The 55-train fleet will operate services on the Central Coast and Newcastle, the Blue Mountains, and the South Coast. www.7NEWS.com.au #SydneyTrains #7NEWS

07.01.2022 Tamworth Miniature Railway is hoping to re-open early in 2021 as restrictions reduce on large numbers in public places. 07.01.2022 Recent work at Canberra Railway Museum: Work continues on two of our passenger cars, this time up on the scaffold, re-coating the roof of the RFN restaurant car.... AL1040 continues to make progress, with the end platform floorboards now secured and the fixtures gradually making their way back onto the carriage. Preparations have also commenced for the painting of the other side of the car, hidden from public view. Finally, two more privately owned carriages were loaded up, and left the museum on their journey to their new home.

05.01.2022 Did you know that our railway runs two track widths? Thats why we have 3 rails, 1 is the common rail, the other two are spaced 5 and 7 1/4inches apart (127mm and 184mm). This allows us to run a variety of different scale and style locomotives.

04.01.2022 AN UPDATE RE : CORONA VIRUS RESTRICTIONS : To our valued Patrons, as at 24th October 2020..... we we are still unable to run trains for the public and for the f...oreseeable future. We are however looking at ways that may allow us to run, it is a long and drawn out process to get permission to provide rides for the public but the restrictions placed on us may deem it still impossible for us to run till all COVID 19 restrictions are lifted We ask our valued patrons to bear with us during this time and we guarantee that we will be back ready to run for the public once the restrictions are lifted See more

03.01.2022 We are contiuning to build new infrastructure and keep the trains rolling while we wait for restrictions to lift. Here’s one of our younger members running a train around the main track while we wait. It certainly is much greener than this time last year!

02.01.2022 A few good men....turned up for the work day on Sunday. I bet there will be a lot more turn up for the play day next Sunday.

02.01.2022 Apparently this is ‘world class’ according to Paul Toole MP

01.01.2022 The union has written to Premier Berejiklian urging her to delay the NIF rollout until hazards outlined in the independent safety assessment are addressed. We cannot allow unsafe trains on our tracks. If the Government won't stand up for public safety, the workers will!
