We rely on you guys showing up, get...ting involved and making your voices heard. There are projects in the pipeline waiting to be picked up, there are things we haven't thought of yet which need initiative and you to join and make them happen. Remember to join the actual assoc! Likes on a Fb page are not enough to convince the council. $10 a year and you get 10% off everything at Climbing Anchors, the whole time - thanks to them for support. https://www.slacklining.org.au/membership/membership-levels/ Currently we can't pay a parking fine - lets change that. 22.01.2022 A timely reminder that it's not about slackliners, but the responsibility we all have to protect our and other people's loved ones. With an exponential growth, every action counts. #flattenthecurve #socialdistancing #notjustaflu

18.01.2022 Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is spreading here in Australia at an exponential rate and we as a community need to be aware of how our actions can impact the greater community around us through the spreading of this invisible disease. We are passionate about slacklining, and it is very important for mental health and wellbeing. Just be smart on how you go about doing it. Remember: 1) social distancing is very important... 2) as is flattening the curve, to reduce the load on our healthcare system 3) lead by example in your local community Even if we won't get a bad case of the virus, we can still spread it without showing symptoms. The situation is changing rapidly, so any advice given now would be outdated in a day or two. So we implore you to keep up to date with the latest government advice (e.q. https://www.health.gov.au) , apply common sense to your slacklining sessions, and where in doubt put the general community first.

18.01.2022 Example of extreme wind damage. Do we have any stories to contribute to the global database? Put any near misses or incidents you know of into the wind form on https://www.slacklineinternational.org/wind and help make the sport safer for everyone.

17.01.2022 Rescues - always an important topic. International Slackline Association - ISA just released a 2020 update, be sure to practice with your crew, have a kit (and skills!) ready to go in case a rescue is needed.

16.01.2022 President Trent Williams and Secretary Dan Willersdorf of the ASA meeting with Councillor Vicki Howard to discuss slacklining in Brisbane Parks. We talked about the benefits of slacklining and how we can work with Council to ensure it's accessible to all. Councillor Howard was enthusiastic about the benefits of slacklining and the community culture and had many suggestions on working together. Currently Slacklining is a restricted activity https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/.../prohibited-and-restricted and requires a permit to do. Councillor Howard suggested we submit certain areas or certain parks for approval so a permit would not be required. The main concerns she put forward are that we would need to show how the trees (a council asset that they manage on behalf of the rate payers) are not damaged, and how we do not impact other park users too much. Which both the ISA tree protection guidelines and existing actions by the community look after. It does show though the risk of how not using tree protection can negatively impact the perception of the slackline community to others. A very positive meeting!

05.01.2022 A friendly reminder that gathering in large groups is a no go in most states. Stay alert and stay safe when it comes to slacklining and highlining in groups. Incidences have been happening over in NSW so please be aware. We are having issues around access as a community and we need to protect ourselves against state regulations when it comes to COVID. In addition to all this, the ASA is working on drafting a procedure to allow the community to effectively communicate incide...nces to state representatives about access issues. ie, rangers, public and police. We have to know whats going on so we can help navigate change. Stay tuned!

03.01.2022 Stronger together Highliners and climbers join forces to tackle the Diamond Bay access issue. Proactive slacker Roberto De Oliveira, NSW Rep Arthur Pera and Vice-Pres Kat Horton met today with a climbing access Rep Adrian Kladnig to work on a plan to legitimise Diamond Bay access.... Diamond Bay/Rosa Gully is a crag with 40+ years of climbing and 10+ years of highlining history. Our planned steps: 1). Letter to the council presenting a case for highlining 2). Joint climbing and highlining presentation to the council 3). Community engagement event to address concerns of the locals, as well as showcase our sport. We discussed potential solutions we can offer to the Waverley council, and the importance of collaboration among different user groups. Are you a local to Waverley and/or interested in the issue? Get in touch!
