25.01.2022 Wingless Wide Open This weekend at the Narrogin Speedway, the Wingless Sprints will be back in action for the second round of their Country Series and with twe...nty-eight nominations received, it is going to be a wide open field to determine a winner! Coming into the show looking to continue his good form from the season opener at Collie will be Jake Robinson who claimed a heat win en-route to leading every lap of the feature. Although some were surprised at his dominance, Robinson has been competing for a number of years and his results have shown an upward trend, so it was just a matter of time before he broke through for the win and he will be looking to back it up with another solid finish tomorrow night. Joining Robinson on the podium at the last show was Chad Pittard, who was a quiet achiever through the night and was able to sneak into second place by the time the chequers flew. Rookie Blake Iwanow continued his outstanding run with a third place at the same show and both drivers will be desperate to go better this time around. In direct contrast, Matt Iwanow and Ash Hounsfield failed to fire a shot on the opening night despite being the heavily favoured contenders going into the show. They have both nominated for Saturday night’s show and will surely be more of a presence this time around. Others looking to bounce back after a rough opening night will be Shane Thomas who had a heavy crash, Jye Mckenzie who is looking for revenge after his night ended against the wall, Warren Hunter who also went upside down in a big way, ending his night early and Lee Redmond who headed infield during a caution with a heavily smoking machine. Tom Britton will be hoping to build on his top five finish from the show in his newly stickered machine, while David Worrall was an impressive fourth at the last show and will want to repeat those efforts. Daran Humfrey helicoptered after crossing the line in sixth place at the same show so has worked hard to ensure everything on the car is ready to go, while Travis Sharpe, Daniel Keen, Jackson Condo and Kieran Norman all grabbed top ten finishes and are ready to improve on those results. Dean Gittos looks to make his first appearance of the season and if years past is anything to go by, will be right on the pace from the get go. Others also making their first appearances include Craig Watts and Gavin Preen, and in a strong field of twenty-eight, every single position will count, so expect a big show! See you at Narrogin Speedway tomorrow for another action packed night! Release by DTN Media. Pics Courtesy Blake Jones Photography. 23.01.2022 McCarthy Wins Whyalla, Chadwick Masters MMS By Phil Michell Motorsport Media Over the past two weeks Wingless Sprints SA have hosted two club shows with the fir...st at the Whyalla Speedway on October 31 quickly followed by another at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway on November 7. After winning the season opener in early October Jack McCarthy went into the Whyalla event as a red-hot favourite in the small field and he didn’t disappoint. Throughout the night McCarthy was at his dominant best as he secured two heat wins, and a runner-up finish in the third, along with leading all 20 laps in the Moore Saw Sharpening supported A-Main. But he was chased all the way by rookie Tyson Martin who crossed the line less than a second behind. Hayden Vickers completed the podium with Mick Barker and Nicole Southby completing the top five. Unfortunately, the field was reduced during hot laps when Normie Moore destroyed the engine in his #12 entry while Jacob Childs also had a mechanical issue at the completion of the opening heat. With a perfect start to the year McCarthy headed to Murray Bridge last weekend with a hat trick well and truly on the cards, but his streak came to end courtesy of dual Australian Champion Joel Chadwick, who was making his first start of the season in his immaculate #5 Triple X Chassis. After recording identical heat results, a win and a second, Chadwick and McCarthy shared the front row in the 20-lap finale, with Mount Gambier duo Kirby Hillier and Mitch Broome on the second row. The opening lap saw Chadwick storm to the front while Broome had an issue on the exit of turn two slowing considerably catching out Anthony Tapley who drove over the right rear. As a result, both drivers fell back through the pack, but they would later recover to finish fifth and seventh respectively. The Wingless feature had just one yellow light stoppage for a spinning Mick Barker, but produced yet another close finish as Chadwick edged out a fast finishing McCarthy by .272 of second after Chadwick got hung up in lapped traffic. Third went the way of Kirby Hillyer with Hayden Vickers once again fishing towards the front in fourth. Broome recovered to fifth ahead of Tyson Martin, Anthony Tapley, Brent Fox, Darryl Sloan and rookie Jesse Alexander. Brad Evans, Jacob Childs, Ben Cartwright, Nicole Southby, Sharni Pitcher, Mick Barker and Tamika Pitcher completed the 17-car field that took the green flag. Hayden Vickers and Kirby Hiller joined McCarthy and Chadwick as heat winners. Heat 4 would see the red light come on for Harley Alexander, who was having his first ever start, after he inverted his green #20 J&J in the middle of turns 1 and 2. The next Wingless Sprints SA Club Show will be at the Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier on November 28, 2020. Last start winner Joel Chadwick, local hot shot Mitch Broome, Tyson Martin, Hayden Vickers, Mick Barker, Ben Cartwright and Sharni Pitcher are the early entries.

21.01.2022 After an unfortunate loss to Mother Nature at our previous fixture, we are back at Archerfield Speedway this weekend. To say our drivers are champing at the bit..., would be the understatement of the season. As has been the theme so far this season. New drivers, but wait! There’s more. Wingless sprints Queensland welcomes Brett Russo and Marin Kusturin, Marin will pilot the Q25 KPC, while Brett will be aboard the X Glen Wright Q99 Maxim, now sporting the Rent360 Q6 colours. Both drivers are stepping up from the Ford V Holden class and can’t wait to cut some laps in their new open wheelers. This week’s non points round has afforded our club secretary his first opportunity to experience our division first hand, Mark Brownsey will take the wheel of the Q44 on Saturday night, adding another chapter to his impressive motorsport story. It’s great to see Victorian import Paul Newcombe coming to grips with the Archerfield circuit, his lap times improving with each outing. It won’t be long before he’s feeling right at home, here on our Queensland tracks. After a not so friendly interaction with the turn 4 wall at our last meeting, it’s great to see Lance Dawson back on the horse and ready for action. I’m reliably informed that our club President has worked out how to fit the injectors in the Q10, and a vastly improved result is on the cards, good luck Chris. Whilst we do have exceptional numbers of new drivers, we also welcome back the Q49 of Cody O’Connell for his first official outing of the season. No doubt he will be out to stop younger brother and current Queensland Title holder Casey from having everything his own way. Ryan Harris is back again, warming the seat of the Harris family, Thydesigns Q9. After a very impressive qualifying effort last Archerfield meeting, this scribe is looking forward to seeing what Ryan has in store for us when the mud fly’s on Saturday. We have a number of teams from our club competing in the Flying Fifty at Lismore this weekend, we wish you all a safe journey, May Dame Fortune attend you. You don’t need wings to fly. The Wingless Warbler. See more

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Tyson Newcombe for winning his first Feature race.

21.01.2022 Right back at it! Just seven days removed from their country series round at the Narrogin Speedway, the Wingless Sprints are set to back up the action with a hu...ge twenty nine car field nominated for this weekend’s event at the Perth Motorplex! Saturday night will see the Wingless brigade hit the high banks of the Perth Motorplex for the first time this season and judging by the season so far, it is absolutely anyone’s game! One man who could well claim his first victory in the Wingless at Kwinana (to add to his four Junior Sedan wins at the venue) is Blake Iwanow. Riding high off two podium finishes from two starts, including a win last weekend, Iwanow is still just a rookie in the division. He also competed in the last meeting of the Motorplex last season and again scored two wins from two starts even back then, so will certainly come into Saturday night full of confidence. Daniel Keen chased Iwanow hard for the entire feature distance last weekend and will be determined to not be chasing the #2 tail tank two weekends in a row. Keen is back in Wingless Sprints with a renewed focus this season and his results are already showing that he is going to be a contender each and every meeting he contests, so he could well claim his seventh career Motorplex feature this weekend. Brad Fitzgerald raced home for third place at the last show and would love to grab another Motorplex feature win this weekend, while defending Perth Motorplex Track Champion Ash Hounsfield hasn’t quite started his season the way he would have liked. After cutting some practice laps at the Motorplex last week, he should be in good stead to add to his seven victories at the venue. The Robinson boys love the Motorplex venue and will be hoping to elevate themselves into the front pack once again, while names like Matt Iwanow, Daran Humfrey, Chad Pittard and Brendon Wedge all know what it takes to win a feature at the Motorplex and could well be up there again Saturday night. Lee Redmond has recently returned to the Wingless division and with his last win in the division at the Motorplex way back in March, 2011, he would love to turn back the clocks and grab another, while other names like Gareth Smith, Jye Mckenzie, Darryl George and Matty Fellowes will all be hopeful of solid runs. Drivers will all get two heats each (a total of four heats across the night), prior to the top twenty four drivers competing in a twenty lap feature event to decide a winner. Do not miss this show! 20.01.2022 Following the premature end to the 2019/20 Australian Speedway season in mid-March due to COVID-19, action on the dirt tracks has returned in recent weeks with the Australian Wingless Sprint Racing Inc. providing events for their competitors in three mainland States. Over the past month the 2020/21 racing season has begun in the Northern parts of the country with Wingless Sprint features being conducted at Carnarvon in Western Australia and Katherine in the Northern Territory.... The season at the Carnarvon Speedway kicked off on June 20 with Cameron Holla completing a clean sweep of the racing program winning all three heats before leading the entire A-Main journey to win ahead of Emily Burston, Nathan Condo and Owen De Boni. The next meeting at Carnarvon will again feature the Wingless Sprints on July 25. A second Western Australian venue, the Ellenbrook Speedway, will host their first meeting of the season on August 16, followed by another event on September 6. Last Saturday night (July 11) the Katherine Speedway (NT) hosted the Wingless Sprints with Tyson Newcombe claiming the opening A-Main of the season. The podium was filled by Jarrod and Daniel Goldoni with Sean Tiedeman in the John Murdie owned #59 in fourth. Sprintcar drivers Jamie McInnes and Lachlan Cole were next while Mathew McLennan and Shane Norman completed the finishers. Dean Tillack failed to take the green in the decider. The next event on July 25 has already received 8 nominations. The Wingless competitors will also return to the venue for night 3 of the Track Championship on August 22. Tennant Creek will also see the Wingless Sprints in action over two nights at their Picnic Weekend event on the first weekend in August. The New South Wales Club has also been proactive in getting their competitors back on track in late June with practice meetings at the Dubbo and Goulburn Speedway’s. 17.01.2022 IMPORTANT STEP FORWARD FOR NEW SYDNEY SPEEDWAY Today the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the new Sydney International Speedway at Eastern Creek was sub...mitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, marking an important step in the project’s progress. Subject to planning approvals, construction of the speedway is planned to start later this year and is expected to be completed by the start of the speedway racing season in 2021/22. The proposed venue comprises a 460m clay track with a 345m motorcycle speedway circuit on the infield. The outer track replicates the existing size and shape at Parramatta (incorporating the latest safety features), while the latter is built to international specifications and is capable of hosting everything from Speedway GP down to grassroots motorcycle speedway, karting and vintage classes. A virtual information room displaying key aspects of the project, the EIS documents, video featuring information from industry specialists and a full 360 degree view of the proposed speedway is now available to view at sydneymetro.info/speedwayvirtual Submissions on the EIS can be made directly to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment by Wednesday 16 September 2020. Speedway Australia Chairman Guy Thompson was enthusiastic. We get to see the proposed plans at the same time as everyone else but are confident that this will be a world class facility. We appreciate the fact that Sydney Metro have liaised with us to ensure the venue is built to Speedway Australia’s five star safety rating. In terms of the final design this is a massive opportunity that the New South Wales government has given us as a sport and we should utilise the fact that they are fast tracking the planning process to help make the venue as good as it can be. It’s important that anyone with constructive feedback gets in touch with the government via the appropriate channels by the September 16 deadline. Sprintcar Control Council of Australia President Kathy Kelly was also buoyant. While it’s sad to lose the history and atmosphere of the current venue, it’s great that Sprintcar racing in New South Wales will soon have a modern new home. Sydney set the standard for Sprintcar racing in Australia when the current venue was built, and will do so again at Eastern Creek from next year. This is an exciting new era for our sport! Motorcycling NSW Ltd also said "we are enthusiastic to see the proposed plans and are certain this will be a world class facility that can be utilised by our clubs and members in the future. It is promising to see the investment the NSW Government plans to make over the next few years to ensure Motorsports continue to grow within the urban environment". More information about the Sydney International Speedway project can be found on the Sydney Metro website. If you have any difficulties accessing information or would like to speak to a member of the project team, please contact Sydney Metro West via email at: [email protected] or by calling 1800 612 173.

12.01.2022 To all Wingless Sprint Car Owners, In light of the COVID-19 world we are living in, the AWSR Committee has agreed that we should be helping out our car owners in some form. AWSR are therefore going to offer a reduced registration fee for the 20/21 racing season. This is of course for the AWSR portion of the registration costs only, as the SCCA portion of the fees currently remains the same. Therefore the season 20/21 total registration cost will be $200 (inclusive of SCCA f...ees) plus any stripe admin fees. This fee change will take effect on the AWSR Website from Midnight this Friday 23rd October 2020 AEDST. Those who have registered their Wingless Sprints already this season, will now be given a partial refund of $195 in the weeks following the activation date of the new registration fee amount. AWSR hopes that this small gesture helps out our car owners in some way, and that we all stay safe and can get back racing as soon as possible in your respective states. Any questions please email [email protected] Sincerely the AWSR Committee.

08.01.2022 Wingless Calendar Released! The Wingless Sprints WA committee is today pleased to release the 2020/21 season calendar! A total of nineteen nights fill out the ...calendar which includes an eleven round Championship Series as well as the return of the Country Series which will be conducted over seven rounds. The season will get underway on the 24th of October at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway doubling as the opening round of the aforementioned Country Series and Championship Series, and if off season car counts are anything to go by, the first official meeting of the Summer season should be a cracker. The weekend after, the 31st of October, will see the Wingless Sprints make their first appearance of the season at the world class Perth Motorplex facility, in what will also be the beginning of the eight round Track Championship Series. After a fortnight’s break the Wingless Sprints will head down to Narrogin Speedway for the second round of the Country Series. After the success of last years event at the venue, this one can be expected to be even bigger and better this time round. The Perth Motorplex City of Kwinana Cup will then be a week later, held on the 21st of November. Again, a short break will give competitors the chance to regroup before the third round of the Country Series is held, again at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway, followed by a second show at Narrogin Speedway a week later. Indeed, this one will be big, as the event, to be held on the 12th of December, will be the 13th annual running of the prestigious WA Title. Two shows at the Perth Motorplex on the 26th and 28th of December will follow the Title event to close out 2020 before another show just a couple of days later, on the 2nd of January will bring in the New Year, this time at Manjimup Speedway. This will also be the fourth round of the Country Series. A trip back to the Motorplex on the 6th of January and a third trip to the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway on the 16th of January are next on the calendar, before an exciting Blue Ribbon event addition to the calendar takes place next. The Paul & Kaye Keen Classic has been created this year and will honour two people who have made immeasurable contributions towards Wingless Sprints in Western Australia. The event will be held over two nights, firstly at Kalgoorlie Speedway on the 23rd of January then the night after at Esperance Speedway. There is set to be a considerable prize pool for this event that will be announced at a later date, so stay tuned for that! Next up is another huge event, the annual Des Nash Memorial, again honouring one of the Wingless Sprints WA stalwarts. This race was incredibly popular last year and it will be great to see it return and hopefully attract even more support than ever before. After a short break in local action to allow competitors to head East for the Australian Title, local action will resume with another show at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway on the 6th of March, followed by two more shows to round out the Perth Motorplex season the Silver Cup on the 13th of March and the Gold Cup on the 27th of March. The final two shows of the Wingless Sprints WA calendar for season 2020/21 will be the 4th of April at Margaret River Speedway for the Easter Classic, followed by the Our Car Autos 50 lapper to be held at Moora Speedway on the 8th of May. It is set to be a huge season for the Wingless Sprints of WA and we look forward to seeing you all trackside very soon! Release by DTN Media.

08.01.2022 Hounsfield Back on Top Despite a tough start to season 2020/21, Ash Hounsfield has tonight bounced back and got his Perth Motorplex Track Championship defense o...ff to the best possible start as he claimed the feature win against a crack field of drivers. Hounsfield claimed a win and a fourth place in his heat races to start on the front row for the twenty lap feature event alongside Matty Fellowes who claimed the opening heat win and a third place to claim pole position. Twenty four cars would greet the starter as the maximum number of cars allowed on track, Daniel Keen unlucky not to make the show where despite a heavy rollover in his heat (at the same time as Kevin Bissaker) he still qualified from position seventeen. As the feature race went green it was Hounsfield who took the lead followed closely by Fellowes with Alex Robinson settling into third. Brendon Wedge came from nowhere to grab third and be right on Fellowes tail, with Matt Iwanow and Brad Fitzgerald moving into the top five as they too made moves on Robinson. Lee Redmond would then survive a hairy moment, riding a wheel of Robinson as he too looked for a way through and somehow avoided rolling and continued. With five laps complete the yellow lights came on as rookie Gavin Preen, who got a start in the feature due to the misfortune of Daniel Keen, spun in turn two, bunching up the field once again, all twenty four starters still running. Hounsfield was back in front as Wedge moved into second with the yellows coming on again shortly after with seven complete as Jake Robinson found himself facing the turn one wall. At this point Matt Iwanow also found himself in third behind Wedge and Hounsfield. The race would resume, but Robinson spun again and was sent infield, setting up a restart with eight laps remaining, shortly followed by the yellows again two laps later as Gareth Smith spun in turn two. Twenty cars would restart for the final stanza, with Hounsfield quick to open up a good lead, leaving Wedge, Iwanow and Fellowes all fighting in close quarters for the podium positions while Brad Fitzgerald and Robinson were just behind waiting for their chances. 05.01.2022 Round 3 of the AWSR Series heads to Knoxville as we reach the half way stage of this championship

04.01.2022 UPDATE: They are currently getting assistance into Port Augusta tonight and are safely off the road. This speedway community is amazing! We've been overwhelme...d with offers of help and numbers to call. Thankyou everyone who shared and reached out! EARLIER: Tow Truck, Mobile Mechanic, Help needed! 70km north of Port Augusta SA, Victorian Wingless Sprint Team trying to return home after abandoning their trip to Darwin. Stranded F350 and 38Ft Gooseneck Trailer. So far have been unable to find anyone able to help or tow. After trying to make repairs all day they are left in a precarious position on the side of the road as it gets dark. Is there anyone in the speedway world or someone with connections around Port Augusta that could at least help them get to safety for the night. Please get in touch! I'll get you in contact with them.

04.01.2022 We head up the hill this weekend, for our first run this season on the High Banks of Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway. With the recent announcement that Toowoom...ba will be holding the Queensland Wingless Sprint Title this season, competitors will be eager to get in as many laps as possible in preparation for our premier event. A strong field of 25 cars have nominated for the event, with a large contingent from New South Wales. With the absence of the O’Connell brothers, who dominated our previous fixture at Archerfield, Paul Robinson in the Q28 and the Q9 of Ryan Harris look to be the leading contenders from Queensland. Harris made it to the bottom step of the podium last start at Archerfield, relegating the ever consistent Robinson to 4th place. They will both be looking to build on their solid starts to the season. Ian Milnes faces the green light for the first time this season after completing a freshen up on the Q3, heading into his second season of wingless racing we wish him a safe and rewarding season. We have a number of competitors competing at Toowoomba for the first time on Saturday, we wish them a safe and exciting first encounter with the High Banks. Our visiting drivers have been right on the money. Jacob Jolly in the NX 82 has been in exemplary form, winning the season openers at Archerfield and Lismore then adding the Flying Fifty at Lismore last weekend, bringing his tally to three feature wins from four starts this season. The only blot on his copy book being a DNF at Lismore from a cut down rear tyre. I am certainly looking forward to seeing Dubbo’s Dyna Flow Dynamo Mark Blyton rubbing the boards on Saturday. The speedway journeyman never disappoints and certainly never leaves anything on the shelf, it will be great to have the Black N5 circulating at Toowoomba. Current Queensland Club Champion and former Queensland Title holder David Eggins brings the NX 71 back to Toowoomba, following a solid second place to Jolley last weekend at Lismore. A regular visitor to Toowoomba, Eggins always shows great car speed here, if the top is ON then look forward to the N5, NX71 battle Up on the boards. You don’t need wings to fly. The Wingless Warbler.

02.01.2022 URGENT (Please send this email out to your members ASAP.) After some concerns raised this week by the SCCA Tech Officer, AWSR has decided to withdraw the Notice of Motion regarding the 100mm Halo Spacer RULE CHANGE effective IMMEDIATELY. Rule No. - 11.19(k) page 101 of the August 2019 SCCA Rule Book The reason for the reversal is because the intention of the rule was to create the opportunity for extra head clearance over and above the 55mm, and it is worded in a way that it... could be used to achieve the minimum 55mm head clearance required, which was not the intention of the rule change. This then creates other issues such as impaired vision from the top cross bar in front of the driver and also the rock screen being too low to protect the driver from large objects possibly hitting the helmet. I have therefore attached an updated document containing the passed SCCA and AWSR Notices of Motion with this rule now removed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this change, but as always "Safety comes first". Any questions please contact us. Thanks Darryl Sloan AWSR Secretary [email protected] http://www.awsr.com.au

02.01.2022 Valvoline Raceway Update Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and border lockouts, it is with regret that the Management of Valvoline Raceway ann...ounce that the scheduled start to the 2020/21 season on October 3rd will be postponed until further notice. The management team will continue to monitor the restrictions and guidelines set by the NSW government but is not expected to give a further update until November. As this will be the last Season at Valvoline Raceway before the Government take over the venue, we will schedule in racing as soon as it is safe to do so.

02.01.2022 What a Win! Jye Mckenzie hasn’t been racing Wingless Sprints all that long, but tonight he showed skill well beyond his years as he held off a pile of more expe...rienced competitors on a tough track to claim his first ever feature win. The Keen’s Driver Training Southern Slam opening night at Bunbury Speedway attracted a strong twenty two car field, but it was young Mackenzie who was the star of the show, winning his first heat and finishing second to State Champion Matt Iwanow in the other to set up a pole position start for the twenty lap feature. Other preliminary wins went to Gareth Smith and Ash Hounsfield, with Iwanow joining Mackenzie on the front row for the feature. Mackenzie would get the jump, with Hounsfield into second place and Iwanow third, while Daniel Keen would be the only one working the highline early in fourth place. It would work well for him, seeing him pass Iwanow to grab third, but Iwanow wouldn’t give up, the two battling for a number of laps. Sixth place Blake Iwanow would retire on lap seven, but up front Mackenzie was driving the race of his life, holding his line on a difficult track and not making any mistakes as Hounsfield was waiting for an opportunity to pounce. At the halfway point Hounsfield was right on Mackenzie’s tail, with Keen also closing fast on the top two. Just as the race looked like it might go green to chequers, the yellow lights came out for David Worroll who found himself stuck in the turn two wall. Mckenzie led the field away on the restart and what happened next was an epic battle, not just with Mackenzie holding off Hounsfield, but also a three car battle for third place, with Matt Iwanow, Daniel Keen and former WA Champion Tom Payet all fighting it out, the trio running on every line across the track and trading places regularly. With three to go, Hounsfield gave Mackenzie a nudge to remind him he was still right there, but the yellows would come on shortly after as Gareth Smith, Tom Britton and Chad Pittard all found themselves parked at awkward angles across turn four. The restart didn’t last long as Matty Fellowes lost a wheel, but Mackenzie held strong when the race resumed, outlasting his more experienced peers in an incredible drive to claim his first ever feature race win ahead of Hounsfield and Iwanow. Making it even more exciting for the youngster was the fact that he won such a well paying race, with the Keens Driver Training Southern Slam paying well through the field. Travis Sharpe would win the Hard Charger award. Drivers now have less than twenty four hours to get themselves repaired and refreshed as the next show for the Wingless Sprints will be tomorrow, as Manjimup Speedway plays host to the second night of the Keens Driver Training Southern Slam! A huge thankyou again to our sponsors who have made this event possible: Keens Driver Training, Adtech Computers, Pittard Motors and Fellows Flooring, as well as to Bunbury and Manjimup Speedways for the opportunity to race.
