22.01.2022 "A business interruption (BI) test case will be held in a superior court to rule on matters relating to COVID-19 shutdowns... Australian insurers’ policies still include exclusions referring to the now repealed Quarantine Act 1908, which was replaced by the Biosecurity Act 2015. As a result, some claimants hope the exclusions will not apply to COVID-19 claims."

16.01.2022 The Insurance Council of Australia has issued a message this morning. The following is important information for those impacted by the floods. PLEASE SHARE a...s widely as possible. The Insurance Council and its member companies (all Australian insurers) declared the event in your region a Catastrophe on 2 February, bringing to bear escalation processes and enhanced claims teams. Only a small number of claims have been lodged to date (~3000), we expect that the grow in coming days and we will keep you advised. ICA and a number of insurers have teams in Townsville, standing by to participate in recovery centres to assist victims lodge claims and sort issues out. A local briefing for councillors is available upon request. The industry hotline 1800734621 is active and ready to take calls from your constituents who have questions about insurance, please dont hesitate to have people use this number to escalate any issue whatsoever. If people have purchased flood cover (the majority) then they should not have any difficulty with claims on the basis that the water may have come from the dam, dam water releases are part of the definition for flood used by all insurers. Residents can cleanup. No insurer requires people to live in unhealthy or unsanitary conditions. Cleanup should start as soon as it is safe to do so. Residents should take photographs of items before they are discarded and keep samples of items like carpet. Rebuilding and repairs. Insurers will have key rebuilding and project personnel in Townsville on the 19th of February to discuss any local rebuilding approvals issues. A meeting with council staff to discuss would facilitate the process, if that can be arranged. Community insurance forum. The ICA and insurers will hold an insurance forum on the 19th of March to update local claimants and to deal, face-to-face, with any individual issues. Advertising for that event will start in March, Council is very welcome to attend.
