25.01.2022 Rock Solid message Steve Harvey

24.01.2022 The cornerstone to building strong and healthy psychology is the habit of gratitude. Steve Harvey lays it out for him and his life. Worth a listen and don’t underestimate the power of gratitude!

23.01.2022 I’ve had a big few weeks meeting with parents of Teen boys and I’m seeing a common theme that I think we can all use as a reminder. What is our role as parents to our kids? Is it to be their carer and provider?... To be their teacher? To be their sports or music coach? To be their counsellor and just listen? To be their guide and show them the way? To be their disciplinarian and correct behaviour and tell them where they are going wrong? To be their biggest and greatest supporter and encourager? In my experience, I see my role as a Dad and Step-Dad to be ALL of these things at times, but if I do any of them without deep and meaningful relationship FIRST then none of it makes a difference and I just get tired and discouraged myself.... Our kids need us in their lives (even when they say they don’t) but just like us bigger kids, we always respond better to support, guidance, correction and advice if there is a firm foundation of love, trust and respect first. Being a parent is hard work, let’s be honest, but if you want to make it easier on yourself, focus on showing unconditional love to your kids and pro-actively do things that build relationship. From there, the rest of the list comes more naturally and everyone is better for it.

23.01.2022 Love this video.... Master older brother and Chef all in one!

22.01.2022 Love this infographic! Fulfilment and general happiness is actually simple (yes, not always easy), but when we are feeling overwhelmed and out of alignment with life, we tend to over complicate the remedy for getting back on track. What all of the young people we work with in our programs, mentoring and camps would know (because I hammer on about it! ) is that everything we do in life starts with a thought and our self talk; and in step 1 here, that’s exactly where we need to... start. What am I thinking about that is robbing me of my peace, contentment, joy and ability to keep moving happily along in life? As we draw to the end of 2020 and all this year has represented, it is a great time to stop, take a breath and consciously check in on our thinking and how we are choosing to respond to our life. Is it helping me in my life or holding me back? What can I learn from my experience and then let it go and put it behind me? What is something that is within my control and direct influence and something great to focus on? Remember, it is simple, you have what it takes and you’re worth it. (And you’re inspiring your kids in all that you do too - great job you legend!!)

21.01.2022 It’s important to acknowledge the present moment, because it’s always passing. What a journey parenting is. The good times, the tough times, the break your heart times... Take a moment with these thought provoking images.

20.01.2022 How’s the festivities going out there!?

20.01.2022 This is a friend’s Daughter and I just love her message!! Let’s keep helping our children to define themselves and the belief and trust in themselves to follow their dreams and passions. We do this by encouraging young people to focus on their natural strengths and interests and keep building on them to see what passions and dreams fall into alignment with them.... I truly believe that each of us have a purpose, something to give to the world. I’ve seen it time and time again; when people follow what they love and what fires them up, it’s like effortless perfection. In high school and college I was told you don’t get paid for talking to people or day dreaming Mr Rutter so get back to work and it’s exactly what I do now.... I actually see both those character traits as some of my greatest assets and my love for people and creativity brings me great fulfilment. What fires you up and brings you your greatest fulfilment??

18.01.2022 I couldn’t agree more. When my kids and I look back at holidays or times in their lives they remember the food we ate or made together, things we did and saw. That classic line of kids spelling L.o.v.e as T.i.m.e will always be true.

17.01.2022 As my eldest boy goes deeper into the teenage journey and his life seems to speed up with challenges, I am thankful for the advice I received many years ago about building deep trust and close relationship with him when he was young. So far this is keeping me in a reasonably influential position in his life, which is all I want right now. Close enough to love him and give guidance and boundaries when I can. And thankful when he comes to me for help...

17.01.2022 After each Parent Session, when a Youth Program concludes or after a family support session, you tell us that you want a way to get ongoing connection and support with our resources and methodology. Well here it is!!! "The Village" is launching in just 4 weeks time. Join The Village and journey with us as we unpack monthly topics that will give you practical tools and inspiration to feel fulfilled in your life as an individual, a spouse or partner and a parent and person of ...influence to your children and family. As with everything we do, our content is not just theory, it is our life and experiences coupled with proven principles, tips and strategies that help you lead the life you want and be a powerful role model to your children and young people. The African Proverb that "it takes a village to raise a child" could not be more accurate, but we feel that the village is not just to benefit the child, it is there to support and share the load as a parent. We look forward to having you join our village where we can gather and support each other in this journey of life. Stay tuned for more details and how you can Join "The Village" Group on our Facebook Page. Here is a snippet of some of the modules you will have access to, including live sessions, social events, podcasts, webinars and discussions that will cover parenting, personal development, relationships and positive mental health.

16.01.2022 The words we use make a difference in our environment but also in how we think about ourselves.

15.01.2022 It’s certainly a different feel to Christmas in 2020, but Merry Christmas to you wonderful people and your families. I feel blessed to have been invited to walk alongside so many families this year in the ups and downs of this thing called life and I look forward to a bigger and more connected 2021. A little poem that caught my heart that I wanted to share. Let’s stay close to those we love and keep building a strong and connected community.... Merry Christmas T'was a week before Christmas, And all through the town, People wore masks, That covered their frown. The frown had begun Way back in the Spring, When a global pandemic Changed everything. They called it corona, But unlike the beer, It didn’t bring good times, It didn’t bring cheer. Airplanes were grounded, Travel was banned. Borders were closed Across air, sea and land. As the world entered lockdown To flatten the curve, The economy halted, And folks lost their nerve. From March to July We rode the first wave, People stayed home, They tried to behave. When summer emerged The lockdown was lifted. But away from caution, Many folks drifted. Now it’s December And cases are spiking, Wave two has arrived, Much to our disliking. It’s true that this year Has had sadness a plenty, We’ll never forget The year 2020. And just ‘round the corner - The holiday season, But why be merry? Is there even one reason? To decorate the house And put up the tree, Who will see it, No one but me. But outside my window The rain gently falls, And I think to myself, Let’s deck the halls! So, I gather the ribbon, The garland and bows, As I play those old carols, My happiness grows. Christmas is not cancelled And neither is hope. If we lean on each other, I know we can cope. - Author unknown

15.01.2022 This made me laugh!! The moment you realise that the smell of cocoa does not match the taste!! Those Cocoa coughs!!!

14.01.2022 Just 3 Spots left for this Term! Last one till term 2 next year so send me a message if you want your young lady to join in on this empowering experience!

12.01.2022 See you out there Boys!!

11.01.2022 A great article about guiding our boys through the teen years. We love seeing that we are a part of a community of support people singing the same song for our kids and cutting through the noise for parents. Old school values, a connected community or village and relationships with our young people are so critical and can be simple and effective.... Let’s stick together in raising and positively influencing our young people and supporting each other as parents leading the way.

11.01.2022 I thought I would share this again after exploring this concept at our Authentic Parenting Workshop last night! Introducing the Circle of Influence with credit to Dr Stephen Covey. The inner circle is the circle of influence and the outer circle is the circle of concern.... Our first job is to master the inner circle, which is our thoughts, feelings, reactions, attitude and behaviour. Most people unconsciously live in the outer circle which leads to stress, anxiety, anger and depression. Master ourselves first and watch your circle of influence grow! That is where you find purpose, inspire others and experience peace. #charactereducation #rocksolidboys #empoweredgirls #parenting #buildingstrongfamilies

11.01.2022 This week (week 4) in the Rock Solid Boys and Empowered Girls programs that we are running we are inviting these young people to start a gratitude diary. A cornerstone habit to wire healthy balance and the ability to see the good things in life even in the midst of life’s challenges. This is the view in my backyard where I sit and take the moment to set up my day with filling the positive side of the scales before the world has the opportunity to rush in with anything nega...tive. Gratitude often gets overlooked because it can feel airy fairy, and like you’re living a bumper sticker, especially when we are experiencing tough stuff, but it is and has been the rock solid habit that has helped me come back from tragedy, loss, attacks and challenge in my life. Don’t miss the simple things of just starting your day and thinking and feeling grateful for all those things that you do have. I am grateful for my health I am grateful for my character and who I am (took me about 30 years to believe that one!) I am grateful for my wife, our marriage and that I am loved I am grateful for my children and step children, their health, character and relationships I am grateful for my brother and sisters and their families, my mum and dad and the life we have shared I am grateful for our life and lifestyle together I am grateful for Authentic STEPS, our study, our journey in building this organisation and the families and young people we connect with. I am grateful for being Australian and living in a beautiful place, a safe and connected neighbourhood I am grateful for friends, old and new, people of support and so many funny and meaningful times. Where does it end!? Does it mean that there is nothing wrong in our life? No, I can double that with a complaints list.... but does that help me cope and inspire me to keep on moving ahead; no way! It all starts with focussing on what I do have first. I invite and encourage you to make your list each day, role model it with your children and enjoy watching the fruit of this beautiful ritual and how it shapes your life and outlook. Win the morning and you win the day!

10.01.2022 This short video has been doing the rounds and it’s quite funny.... catch the wine, drop the child... Do you have any face palm parenting stories like this??

09.01.2022 How’s the start of the Queensland school holidays for everyone??

08.01.2022 Who can relate?

08.01.2022 There are so many principles that we believe in represented in this one cartoon. Think of the big picture as a parent and start with the end in mind. Your role is to simply plant good and positive seeds in the character of your kids and trust them to grow from there. (Just keep watering)... The values you demonstrate each day will outlast you and impact your grandkids You reap what you first sow Thanks to my Dad for who I am now. He only got to see the start but he’s a part of everything I do.

07.01.2022 I thought I’d share a post from The Village parenting support Group. This month we are focusing on winning the morning and building a solid foundation for ourselves as individuals first before we are parents, spouses and whatever other roles and responsibilities we have in our lives. Our greatest influence for our young people is how we role model, and I know that when I’m on top of my own life and mental health, parenting is so much easier and far more effective.... If you want to join us in The Village, request access through the Groups tab on our page and come and check it out.

07.01.2022 If you are the parent of a Teenage Boy; then this post is for you. Our boys are struggling with the journey to adult life and our mental health and crime statistics reflect this. 07.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all the Fathers and Father Figures out there. Enjoy the acknowledgement of the role you play in your family’s lives.

05.01.2022 I was told not to play with my food... Could this be some simple but fun and creative school holiday art activities? Or just something to smile at...?

04.01.2022 What an amazing trip and experience that was! 6 young men literally stepping up to test themselves physically and mentally and taking the opportunity to consciously plan and shape the Men they want to become. Walking 36km’s over two nights in remote bushland carrying at least 20kgs each and pushing themselves and each other to stretch their beliefs in what they can endure and achieve.... The answer all young men have is: Do I have what it takes? Only these guys know the answer for themselves, but if you ask me; yes, absolutely. Me... I am just blessed to be a witness. From a vision to mentor young men into healthy masculinity using the Australian bush as the stage, this was a dream come true and I couldn’t be prouder of these great young men and thankful to the solid role models that led alongside me. Thanks Rick Petersen and Nathan Mackenzie. #ritesofpassage #rocksolidboys #southernexposuresurvival

04.01.2022 Only a week and a bit till it starts and there’s just 2 spots left for this term. Get in contact with me to book an enrolment meeting and get more info!

04.01.2022 Ouch... some of these self-help book titles cut a bit close...

04.01.2022 This made me laugh... Isn’t it so funny how our kids think we were born old and didn’t really do much in our life until they were born. (And I thought the same of my parents) The face on the teen daughter says it all. Dad, you are so embarrassing (even though you were part of a world touring heavy metal band with millions of fans)... And the eternal cycle will go on and on...

03.01.2022 Who grew up with older siblings and can relate to this? Or who out there was the older sibling.....?

03.01.2022 What a fierce competitor Martina was and clearly still is in this game of life. It is so true that life is lived twice. Once in our mind first and then in the world. Get the dress rehearsal right up there and things go great in the final performance!!

02.01.2022 Friday reflection on something that happened in a program with some Grade 9 boys this week... I feel it’s worth sharing as it’s relevant to all of us. Each of us are ultimately responsible for our own self-belief and identity, however these parts of our character are shaped and influence of the evidence we see in our world and the feedback from others. As parents or people of influence in the lives of our children and young people, it is vital that if we want our kids to gr...ow to have a healthy self image that we are careful of the labels or limiting beliefs that we pass on to our children. It’s important to correct and healthily shape character and behaviour in our kids but it’s also important to understand that behaviour is separate to identity, because identity and how we see ourselves shapes our behaviour and self-esteem. If you want more information on this topic, please let me know in the comments below. Take care, John

02.01.2022 This was something new for us, but COVID-19 is an opportunity for us to practice what we preach and focusing on what we can and can't control in our lives. So we just have to share our support and strategies to families in a new way. Last night was our first Live Stream Parenting Session having a small group in attendance and a larger audience online! Thanks to Josh Kuskopf and his Team at Splashzone Media for bringing the tech and know-how to make it happen!... #authenticparenting #rocksolidboys #empoweredgirls #theyouthandparentingwhisperer
