13.01.2022 For people with ASD (Autism), every-day sounds, activities, and environments can be frightening. These every day experiences can create an escalation in unhelpful behaviors if not recognised and addressed appropriately.... So, why do people living with ASD engage in unhelpful behaviors ? A person experiencing overwhelm may not be able to recognise or verbalise thier experience in the moment. This is especially true for children. Without support to engage in positive behaviour therapies, some children may engage in unhelpful behaviors in an attempt to reduce environmental static, as a way to cope.. Or as a way to communicate that 'something' is not okay right now. We all need to work on ways of reducing that static, providing the space for people living with ASD to breathe and focus. We can also assist by providing avenues for learning and support.

13.01.2022 The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission are starting up in Western Australia in December 2020. You may ask yourself.. 'WHY do i need to know this?' ... If you have an issue with supports you are accesing through the NDIS, and if you can't seem to resolve those issues directly with your provider, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner can help you sort it out!! Question: Are you happy with the services funded by the NDIS plan you recieve? That can be hard to answer What does 'happy' look like My service provider has provided me with clear information on the supports i recieve. My service provider and support staff have given me clear information about what i can expect from thier service, who to contact if i have a concern, and how i can change or cancel support sessions or my service agreement if i need to. My service provider and supports do what they say they are going to do, and i am consulted around changes in support staff or appointment times. My service provider and supports know exactly what supports they provide to me, they know who is in my life, and they show they care about what matters to me. My service provider and supports respect my right to make my own decisions and take reasonable risks. We even have discussions where they encourage me to try new things! My service provider and supports are polite and respectful, not just to me, but to everyone in my world. My provider and supports are honest and upfront about how support will be delivered. My provider and supports have great communication with my other providers - like my NDIS funded therapists.. and even my non NDIS funded supports at the local hospital. I feel secure, at ease, and reassured.... like i can rely on my service provider and supports. . Which means i can spend less time stressed and more time focussed on achieving my goals! The below video with the NDIS Q&S Commissioner helps to explain things...
