25.01.2022 We had a special visitor on one of our Jacaranda trees (not gum tree, mind you) this week! Our carer Leo assisted RSPCA to coax and transfer the koala safely into their van. This itself was an adventure . It brought so much so joy and excitement to our residents as most had never seen a koala in the wild. #avalonvillages #koalaadventures #australianwildlife

20.01.2022 Sunday 6th of September was Fathers Day. For most, it was a chance for us to surprise Dad with the perfect Father's Day gift (socks and underwear) and to express how much we love him. This occasion however was a very special one for our resident Mark, as he got to celebrate it with his daughter whom he had not seen in months. He has been on cloud nine since her visit and is looking just as amazing with his new hair cut. What a transformation!

20.01.2022 This goes to show that you are never too old to play cricket. Our resident Tony is rarely seen without his wheelie walker but here he is smashing it!

11.01.2022 COVID-19 Update for Brisbane A directive was made for residential Aged Care facilities to restrict visitors with the Government calling for those living on the south side of Brisbane to be extra vigilant and get tested, even if the symptoms are mild. Please be aware that this directive does not affect our residents nor supports. There is currently no Government directive to close services or restrict visitors for disability service providers.... At this stage, we are on alert and monitoring the situation closely along with Government guidance and advice. While there remains no immediate impact to any of the Skymac facilities, residents, staff or services, safety is one of the core pillars of our organisation. We believe being extra vigilant and proactive is the right course of action. - Abiding by all Government requirements. - Training all staff on infection control and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Reviewing staff rostering to minimise staff working across multiple services to minimise the risk of community transmission. - Continual and thorough cleaning of all facilities, including centre vehicles, to minimise the risk of infection. - Anyone who comes to a service with and cold or flu like symptoms will not be allowed entry to the site and supported to go home straight away. - Regular reminders for customers to adhere to COVIDSafe practices, including hand washing, regular use of sanitiser where appropriate, safe sneezing or coughing practices, and social distancing.

10.01.2022 With Ekka 2020 cancelled this year, our residents were still able to experience the EKKA vibes through the Mt Gravatt Show and taste the famous Strawberry Sundaes in-house!! Thanks to our very own Food Services team for bringing this iconic creamy goodness to Avalon.

05.01.2022 With the lockdown restrictions easing, our residents have been busy getting out and about, whether it's a visit to the park or just grabbing a bite to eat. Oh, happy days! Here's a glimpse of what's been happening in no particular order...

05.01.2022 Due to recently announced cases in Queensland, the Government has imposed some immediate restrictions on public gatherings and visitors to the home as well as an immediate requirement for further protective measures on all Disability Accommodation services in the greater Brisbane region. In order to protect our residents and staff, and to minimise the risk of COVID-19 infections within our facilities and homes, we’d like to remind everyone to continue to adhere to the follow...ing COVIDSafe practices: All essential workers should: - wash your hands before entering and leaving the facility - stay 1.5 metres away from residents where possible - stay away when unwell. Essential workers must not be anyone who: - is unwell - has returned from overseas in the last 14 days - has had contact with a person with COVID-19 in the last 14 days - has travelled to a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days - has a cough, runny nose, sore throat or breathing difficulties At this stage, we are on alert and monitoring the situation closely along with Government guidance and advice.
