My hairdressing journey started with me saving my parents money by shaving my brothers hair from a very young age.. Being one of 9 children there was always someone to practice on. After completing my apprenticeship I decided to open Avanti Hair and Beautys doors in 2013, only a couple of months after my son was born. I wanted to create a safe and welcoming space to make others feel beautiful while keeping my family close. Avanti grew very quickly and so did our family! I'm passionate about colour and trying new things! I'm all about offering good quality hair at affordable prices, with integrity. Now 7 years on; a whole new location built by my husband, good friends and myself. A talented and supportive team, a 7 and 4 year old and our sweet little pup. From being homeless at 16, to creating such a unique and inclusive environment...I wake up some days pinching myself! 25.01.2022 Last week we received our 'Certificate of Positive Impact' from Sustainable Salons Although 2020 hasn't gone how we all hoped, it's great to see that every bit of rubbish in our salon is being recycled and making a difference to our beautiful planet In 2020 we have recycled...... 316kg of Paper 158kg of Plastic 229kg of Metal 67L of Chemicals 47kg of Hair All of our rubbish has been recycled, and sold, with the proceeds going to OzHarvest The amount of money raised from our recycling has provided 118,000 meals to those in need The hair has been recycled and made into 'Hair Booms' which are used to soak up Oil Spills in the Oceans Our 47kg of Hair has created 40 Hair Booms and removed over 158L of Oil from our Oceans. 24.01.2022 What causes grey hair? Although your mum might tell you so, stress doesnt actually cause grey hairs. As you age, your body naturally produces less melanin, which are the molecules responsible for your hair colour; resulting in grey hairs.... Pulling out a grey hair or two wont lead to more grey hairs either. We still wouldnt advise that you pull at your grey hairs though, as it can lead to thinning or scarring of the hair follicle. When it comes to grey hairs, its best to just let mother nature do her thing.or come and visit us in the salon and we can get those sparkly greys covered for you. Reopen again on Tuesday Morning. 19.01.2022 There has been a buzz in the salon lately, with so many of our clients discussing where they're going on holiday, or where they have been. We're lucky to be in a position where we can do a bit of travelling again; spending time with family and creating new memories. When travelling, it can be a pain to pack your larger bottles of your shampoo and conditioner, but don't worry, we're here to help!... 19.01.2022 We always talk about hair products and how they benefit our hair from the outside, but what can we do from the inside to promote healthy hair? What we eat has a huge impact on our hair; these three things in particular Healthy Fats... Dont be scared of fats, our body needs them to thrive. Things like coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, raw nuts, seeds, eggs, oily fish, nut butter like tahini, almond butter and macadamia nut butter are all excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids. All of these foods are linked to healthy hair growth. Zinc Raw nuts, seeds, beans and certain seafoods all contain high amounts of zinc. Oysters however contain more zinc per serving than any other food source. All of these foods will promote hair tissue growth and repair, and prevent hair loss. Protein Our hair is made of Keratin, which is a protein, so no surprise when I say that extra sources of protein will benefit your hair. Organic sources of protein are best, like red meat, chicken, fish, eggs and yoghurt. Protein powder can also be a useful option, just make sure it doesnt contain any additives or high amounts of sugar and flavouring. This gorgeous colour was created by @ashleigh.avanti

18.01.2022 Day #2 of SA Lockdown Are you already feeling the lockdown blues? Running out of things to do, or just wanting new ideas and ways to entertain yourself?... Well we’re here to help! Honestly, how often do you get a chance to pamper yourself? Although we can’t leave the house, we can definitely do a little at home pamper session to perk ourselves up. And just because you aren’t leaving the house or seeing anyone, it doesn’t mean you should neglect simple things like washing your hair, moisturising your face or brushing your teeth....because we all know it can happen! So today, when ever you’re ready to (and that could be at 11:30pm if you’d like, because hey, we’ve got nothing better to do) why not take some time for yourself?! Have a shower, and it doesn’t have to be a quick one! Wash your hair and give your scalp an extra scrub with your finger tips. If you use a toning shampoo, use that to give your hair a freshen up. And remember to wash your hair twice Use a treatment in your hair too if you have one. If you have a bond builder, use that, or even just an extra moisturising conditioner. Just a little something for some added hydration. Wash and exfoliate your face AND your body. If you have a special body scrub or exfoliating gloves, or even just a different body wash use them for a change. If you shave your legs, do that! Nothing feels better than freshly shaved legs When you get out of the shower, moisturise you’re whole body. From your feet, up your legs to your stomach, to your chest, face and down your arms, don’t miss any spots! Brush your hair...but with a comb! Take your time to slowly remove any tangles, and don’t forget your leave in treatments. It’s amazing how good you can feel after a decent shower

16.01.2022 This may seem like a silly thing to post about, but all too often do we hear about or see people brushing their hair incorrectly, which can result in breakage and unhealthy hair. If your hair is wet, use a comb to detangle and smooth out the knots. Start at the ends of your hair, slowly making your way up. Be carful not to pull on the hair too much when it is wet, as this is when it is at its most fragile. If your hair is dry, use a brush.... Again, start at the ends of your hair, slowly making your way to the roots. If you were to start and the roots of your hair, the brush is less likely to make it to the ends in one sweep, which make result in unnecessary pulling and breakage. 09.01.2022 What are Parabens and Sulphates, and why should we avoid them? Theres been a lot of talk in the hair and beauty industry over the last few years around Parabens and Sulphates, but no one really talks about why these ingredients are bad for us. In science talk; Parabens are xenoestrogens, which means they have a similar composition to hormones found in the human body. The use of Parabens can disrupt your natural balance of hormones, whi...ch over time can cause a whole lot of problems. Parabens are also found to break down protein, and without protein, your hair will become limp, lifeless and weak. Sulphates are chemical detergents found in products like shampoo and face wash. They cause the products to lather and are extremely effective at removing dirt and oil. This may seem like a good thing, but Sulphates are in fact too good at removing dirt and oils, as they also strip the natural moisture that keeps your hair shiny and soft. As you can see, Parabens and Sulphates arent something you want to be using in your Hair and Beauty products. See more

04.01.2022 High Pony Tails, Tight Braids and Tight Up Dos may be a stylish choice, but are they actually the best choice for your hair? Constant tension on the hair due to tight hair styling can damage the hair, resulting in receding hair lines, breakage and thinning. Change up your hair style and try a loose, soft updo. Loosen off those braids and go for a more messy styles. Even changing up the placement of your pony tail so you don't have constant strain and tension on the same area of your hair all the time will help.

03.01.2022 Our beautiful little salon is TWO years old TODAY! Who could have imagined that we would be celebrating from a distance on second day of lockdown. Thankfully it looks like there's some light at the end of the tunnel sooner than we thought! I opened Avanti Hair and Beauty in 2013 to create a safe space for myself and others to grow and learn. I wanted to offer support and give opportunities to help further careers, confidence and life experiences. Along with the luxury of bei...ng able to afford beautiful hair or the skills to create it. It was important to be genuine, empower the people around us and to create connections so others felt safe enough to open up and share when they needed to. I've met incredible people of all ages, many of whom I now call my friends and some I consider family. Although some don't visit anymore I still love seeing their lives change and celebrate their milestones with a huge grin and a full heart! I feel truly blessed that we've created a unique environment and community through the Avanti name. Especially since moving to South Road! To every person who has walked through our doors, left their mark, supported us and helped us grow, THANK YOU! For being part of our story and choosing to make us a part of yours!
