24.01.2022 #grateful We are so incredibly grateful to the amazing family who took the time to put together our fantastic timber teepee. Without the work of our volunteers, our kindergarten simply cannot run- thank you for giving our children a chance to play, learn, grow and develop. We are desperately seeking someone to help us weed. If you can spare ten minutes of time to help keep our kindergarten safe, please see Emma! ... #avenelkinder #learnthroughplay #learningoutdoors

24.01.2022 Look at our young architects and engineers in action! Our four-year-old kindergarten group have been fascinated by the creation of cityscapes in our construction space. A quick glance into the block corner has unveiled discoveries such as a Burj Khalifa, an Eiffel Tower and an Opera House throughout the term. Meanwhile, todays construction of Melbournes skyline stretched across the classroom and was complete with a freeway, a train track and even our very own Avenel Roadh...ouse made of blocks for petrol along the way. When we build and create with blocks, we use our emerging spatial awareness and coordination skills to place each piece carefully. Large scale projects such as these require planning and communication to deliver, developing critical teamwork and social skills. #blockplay #learningthroughplay #playmatters #earlychildhood #earlychildhoodeducation #kindergarten #playbased #avenel #avenelkindergarten #avenelvictoria #avenelkinder

23.01.2022 "Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder... and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself." ~William Martin What a magical day at kindergarten. We marvelled at the changes in our tomatoes, with our keen eyes observing the varieties' differences, and tasted the tomato explosion in our hungry mouths. We smelt the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg in our dough and squished and squelched it between our fingers. We listened to a stirring performance of 'a Cowboy on the Highway', an original ukelele song by our resident musician. We experienced the magic in the every day and felt the ordinary come to life. #avenelkindergarten #avenel #avenelvictoria #avenelkinder #learnthroughplay #learningoutdoors #sakgp #stephaniealexanderkitchengarden #kidsinthegarden #musiceducation #learningthroughplay #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #earlychildhoodmatters

23.01.2022 "Don’t just tell your children about the world, show them. ~Penny Whitehouse We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful regional community where the natural world is alive on the other side of our fence. When a flock of galahs landed on the Rec Reserve yesterday, we were able to observe them feasting on the grass seeds. We watched their movements and told stories about what they might be chattering about while they ate. We sat quietly and listened to their communicatio...n and attempted to count the birds. We hypothesised about their colour and concluded that the pink feathers helped to camouflage our galahs when they land in the dry gum leaves. We are keen observers, scientists and explorers. We are botanists, zoologist and biologists. We are wild and free. #learnthroughplay #learningoutdoors #natureplay #avenel #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #playmatters #playbasedlearning #learningoutside #bushkids #countrykids #lovestrathbogie #earlychildhoodeducation #earlychildhoodstem

23.01.2022 Save the Date! This year, CBCA Book Week is taking place from 17th to 23rd October. Each year since 1945 the Childrens Book Council of Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time, kindergartens, schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian childrens authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develo...p activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. This years Book Week theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. Both our three-year-old and four-year-old children will have a chance to dress as their favourite book character and join a brief parade around our kindergarten. We strongly encouraged you to ensure you dont place unnecessary pressure on yourself to purchase an outfit for this event. Often, the most memorable costumes for children are put together using things that you already own. In the lead up to this important event in our kindergarten calendar, we encourage you to read with your child every day!

21.01.2022 Spring is in the air! What a lovely time to connect with nature We spent the day in the warm sunshine engaging in experiences designed to welcome in the springtime. Our four-year-old group enjoyed a spring-themed talking tub, containing lambs, seeds, flowers, butterflies and eggs, while our three-year-old group sang 5 Little Ducks and tested weather conditions for play. After heading outside, we used dried native flowers and charcoal to create intricate collages and c...ollected dried leaves from outside the gate. Cutting through the thick stems and roots of our flowers and leaves can be very tricky- we have to hold our scissors with our thumbs at the top to make sure they have the power to cut all the way through. When the wind blew, we had to problem solve- fortunately; we had some clipboards available to weigh down our work. To extend this learning, we are hunting for flower presses. If anyone has some we could borrow for a few weeks; we would be very appreciative. #playmatters #learningthroughplay #learningoutside #learningtogether #earlychildhood #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #kindergarten #avenel #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #playingoutside #natureplay

20.01.2022 A huge thank you to the Nagambie branch of Bendigo Bank for their generous contribution towards building a better future for our children! We are excited to accept this challenge, and will work alongside our community to raise the additional funds required to secure our grant!

20.01.2022 We believe wholeheartedly in the value of risky play. Our kindergarten children are encouraged to explore, engage and create their own playscape from what we call 'loose parts'- movable objects they can manipulate, transport and transform through as they learn and grow. We are always on the look out for objects such as pieces of timber, pipes, tyres, milk crates, tubes, large pieces of fabric, hoses and terracotta pots- if you have any of these materials you are willing to donate, please let us know!

20.01.2022 Wishing all our dads, stepdads, grandfathers, carers and special friends a very happy Fathers Day. We thank you for all that you do

20.01.2022 At Avenel Kindergarten, we work our bodies and minds! We took time today to carefully cut scented herbs and flowers to use in potions, and as food for our (temporarily) captured cabbage moths and earwigs. Our helper hands held the plants, while our leading hand steered the scissors, helping us to build the small muscles in our hands. Our finger muscles were not the only things being strengthened today- our busy brains had a work out too! During our 'Midweek Maths' session,... Alice introduced us to tens frames. We played Roll and Build, an exciting game that helps us to develop one-to-one correspondence, and used manipulatives to help us count, sort and classify along the way! #learningoutside #learningthroughplay #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #earlychildhoodmatters #mathematics #avenel #avenelkinder #avenelkindergarten

20.01.2022 Hats are really groovy You wear them on your head Hats are many colors Like purple, green, or red... The weather is warming up and our UV index is climbing rapidly. Please ensure your child is coming to kindergarten with sunscreen on their face and bodies, and has a hat in their bag (with their name on it). You are welcome to leave their hat at kindergarten in our hat pockets so it is always ready to go

19.01.2022 Early Childhood Educators Day is taking place on Wednesday, 2nd September. To thank our fabulous educators, we are inviting families to share their positive feedback about our educators across the service, and at an individual level. If one of our team goes above and beyond with your child, please take a moment to thank them. Your responses will then be presented to our team to celebrate their valuable contribution. To thank our team, visit https://forms.gle/UFVHfmjdvKZqJ2J68

19.01.2022 Today we stepped Into the Wild with the fabulous Rowena Guppy @into_the_wild_education After a snake safety session where we practised stopping, stepping back and sending for help, we met reptiles, marsupials and invertebrates. We used language to describe how the creatures feel, learnt astonishing facts about each animal and shared our ideas about where they sleep, what they eat and how they move. After the session, we talked about the impact of humans on the environment and... identified and drew our favourite creatures in action. Snake safety is an essential part of living in a regional community, providing our children with the tools they need to navigate our space safely. Learning about native animals helps us to become socially responsible and show respect for the world around us. #avenelkinder #avenelvictoria #avenelkindergarten #learnthroughplay #intothewildeducation #wildlife

18.01.2022 There is still time to purchase tickets in our raffle Thank you for supporting our little kindergarten community!

Funds raised will go to the continual development of our Kindergarten's outdoor play spaces. 17.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that the Ditto Show is visiting our kindergarten on Tuesday. ‘Ditto’, the Bravehearts’ mascot comes to life as the star of Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Education Program to ensure the program is delivered in a fun, interactive and engaging manner. Specially written songs for the show include Private Parts and Run and Tell Someone You Can Trust. These are catchy songs and our experience shows children are remembering them in the same way they ...remember common nursery rhymes. Feedback from schools and centres has indicated that children are singing the songs in the playground. Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Program and resources are NOT SEX EDUCATION. Private Parts are simply explained as the mouth (as we don’t just go around kissing anyone) the chest, between the legs and our bottoms. The main aim of the program is to enhance children’s emotional literacy. The findings of an independent evaluation suggest that the delivery of the principles embedded in this program can reduce the prevalence of not only child sexual assault, but also other forms of abuse including family violence and bullying, in a range of settings. Topics covered throughout the show consists of "Yes" & "No" Feelings, The Body’s Warning Signs, Private Parts and what to do if you feel unsafe or unsure. Children also learn ‘Ditto’s 3 Rules’, which are: We all have the right to feel safe with people. It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure. Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it. For more information about this fabulous program, visit https://bravehearts.org.au/keepsafe

17.01.2022 As part of our ongoing commitment to developing our playspace, we have purchased two outdoor wooden teepees! Our children were thrilled to see them arrive and thanked the courier with a round of applause. We are looking for some volunteers to put them together today or over the course of the weekend. If you have some spare time and a drill, please be in touch today!

16.01.2022 Spring is coming, spring is coming, Birdies build your nest. Weave together straw and feather, Each one doing their best. Spring is coming; spring is coming,... Flowers are coming too. Wattles, lilies and daffodils, All are coming through Today is National Wattle Day and the first day of springtime. We celebrated with a picnic on the grass near a wattle tree and the creation of wattle crowns. Our innovative children spent time creating impressions of the seasons at our painting table, with lambs, blossoms and raindrops making their way to the paper. We felt the warm soil and the sunshine on our bare feet and shared our understandings of the life cycles of frogs. As a service, we believe that children learn best when they are given opportunities to experience the world around them- to smell, to see, to hear, to taste and to touch. Developing an understanding of seasons and seasonality is an essential precursor to measuring time, and helps us to predict the next step in the calendar wheel. #learningoutside #learningthroughplay #playmatters #kindergarten #avenel #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #avenelvictoria #learningtogether #nationalwattleday #springtime #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #communitykindergarten #natureplay

Voting will happen via the N...agambie branch of Bendigo Banks Facebook page in the days after the session. To help with connectivity please ensure your webcam is switched off when you join the meeting. You will find the link to join the meeting below. The service has provided a written letter of support for the project, and are hopeful for their success, as well as our own! If you are able to support these important community initiatives, we would love to see you there! The more community members attending these events, the better the outcomes for our town will be.

14.01.2022 We were incredibly busy at kindergarten today! Many children came back bursting with stories about their transition day at school. After a brief morning meeting, we spent the day working in our @sakgf program, conducting experiments about the impact of chicken manure on the growth of plants. We tasted a chilli, then quickly decided it was just too hot, so we had a little milk to cool our mouths down! In the afternoon, our emergent writers set to work writing Christmas cards ...with Kara, our amazing student-teacher, and racing around outside the gate to collect the perfect gum nuts, leaves and twigs to add to our Chrismas work It is such a joy to watch these confident and involved learners in action- they are independent, active, engaged and ready for the next step on their educational journey- whatever that may be! #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #avenel #avenelvictoria #learners #learnthroughplay #learningoutside #learningoutdoors #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #earlychildhoodliteracy #earlyliteracymatters #playmatters #playbasedlearning #earlylearningmatters #countrykids #stephaniealexanderkitchengarden

14.01.2022 Ribbit, ribbit! If your household is suddenly full of active frog finders, please dont be alarmed. Our fantastic fours are fascinated by frogs at the moment. After reading a non-fiction book about the life cycle of a frog, we shared this video during our morning circle. We were shocked to discover that some tadpoles eat other tadpoles, and were fascinated by the idea of suddenly growing lungs and legs. We listened to the call of the pobblebonk frog and discussed the bes...t habitat for frogs to grow. Learning about animals helps to build our scientific understanding and observation skills. We use language to describe, and use tricky words such as transform, metamorphosis and amphibian in casual conversation. Developing a strong understanding of a life cycle can also develop our sequencing skills, an essential element of early literacy.

13.01.2022 Calling all green thumbs! Spring is almost here and we would love some help to put the garden in kindergarten. Our friends at Strathbogie Shire Council have kindly provided us with some soil to transform the fruit crates donated by a local business into a living classroom. We would love some help to fill these containers. We are also looking for members of our community who can....... spread some tan bark in our front yard weed our front garden (beside the kinder door) weed our back garden (behind the stage) donate some straw to use as mulch fill the potholes in our car park donate a few frut trees, seedlings or seeds for us to plant If you are able to help us grow, please get in touch.

13.01.2022 We want your feedback! To help us plan for 2021, we would love to know what you thought about our service in 2020. If you are able to, we ask that you complete this short survey about your experience and impressions of the service. We value all constructive feedback- your input helps us to provide the best possible experience for the children of our community. Visit https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSfDqMzkqKtbaVo_7/viewform today !

13.01.2022 According to the Australian Government website Learning Potential, school readiness is a measure of the knowledge, skills and behaviours that enable children to participate and succeed in school. Parents sometimes think that school readiness means being able to read, write and do basic maths before starting school. But this isn’t the case! School readiness is about the development of the whole child their social and emotional skills, physical skills, communication skills and cognitive skills. https://iview.abc.net.au/s/play-school-ready-set-big-school For many of our children, today marked the first big transition to Primary School. To help our children cope with these exciting changes, we strongly recommend watching this special Play School episode!

13.01.2022 Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree! This morning, we opened our old Christmas tree box and noticed that the tree was damaged beyond repair. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we actively aim to reduce, reuse and recycle. Instead of purchasing a new tree, we thought we would ask our community if anyone had a pine branch or old tree to spare. ... If you are able to help us, please let us know!

13.01.2022 Its National Science Week! We encourage you to work alongside your child to explore, create, experiment, make predictions and observe the world around you. We will share some of our exciting experiments that take place at kindergarten on our social media channels- watch this space! Some resources are available here: https://www.scienceweek.net.au/diy-science/

12.01.2022 Today is the first day of our #kindmas celebrations. This year, we encourage our children, families and friends on the broader community to commit to completing 25 acts of kindness in the lead up to Christmas. #kinderkindergarten

12.01.2022 As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, we have spent the week listening to and exploring Indigenous perspectives, texts and ideas. We explored books such as Respect by Aunty Faye Muir & Sue Lawson, and Our Home, Our Heartbeat by Adam Briggs. We participated in the fantastic virtual Under 5s NAIDOC Week program with NGV based on the idea of ‘Always Was, Always Will Be', and talked about the unique features of the land we live on. We examined the Aboriginal Flag and talked... about the colours contained in it and the meaning attached. We sat quietly and listened to the birds, enjoying a moment of stillness and just being, and sang songs like Inany & Taba Naba, talking about the similarities and differences in the words and meaning of the songs. Each day at kindergarten, we share a simple acknowledgement of country. In our three-year-old group, this is led by the teacher & in our four-year-old group; this is led by a different child each day. The words are: Care for country, Care for country, Love our land, Love our land, Birds and plants and animals, Birds and plants and animals, Hand in hand, Hand in hand. Here is the ground, here is the sky, here are my friends and here am I. We that the Taungurung people for caring for the land where we learn, rest & play.

11.01.2022 Our ever curious three-year-old group also experienced the magic of nature with @into_the_wild_education today! They used gentle hands to pat soft and spikey animals and discovered what different animals ate. Later in the afternoon, we read Womabt Stew to continue their interest in the world around them. #avenel #avenelkinder #avenelvictoria #avenelkindergarten #kindergarten #intothewildeducation #earlychildhoodeducation

11.01.2022 Our service is in the running for a Nagambie branch of Bendigo Bank grant! We would love to win the peoples choice award and encourage you to vote for us. You can also help by sharing this post and encouraging your friends to vote too! While you are there, check out the other fantastic community groups in our area. Last nights presentations highlighted the phenomenal work each of these organisations does, and we were thrilled to see some Avenel Kindergarten Alumni in the A...venel Action Groups Grand For Avenel Campaign. Together, we can build a brighter future for our children.

11.01.2022 There is nothing like reading a good book in the shade on a hot day! Our three-year-old kindergarten group spent time today listening to and reading stories! As we explore books, we build a strong understanding of concepts of print and the direction of the text. Listening to stories with actions, such as "Look, See, Look at Me" helps us to connect with the book and fully engage in what we are seeing and hearing. As a group, we use a board with visuals to help guide our ci...rcle times, helping to develop a link between the written word, symbols and the words we say. Reading to your child is one of the most important ways you can support your child's learning and development! What is your child's favourite book? #avenelkinder #avenelvictoria #avenelkindergarten #learningoutside #learningthroughplay #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #earlychildhoodliteracy

09.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Our fabulous threes have been chatting about Christmas today, with many excitedly sharing their excitement about decorating Christmas Trees and starting Advent Calendars. With their developing finger muscles, the children carefully painted a tree, then selected sparkly sequins to use as baubles. Fine motor skills are necessary for many aspects of self-care as children, for example: putting on shoes, feeding themselves, cleaning ...their own teeth. Fine motor skills are also critical for the development of emergent writing. What an engaging way to develop these critical skills! #avenel #avenelkinder #avenelkindergarten #learningthroughplay #playmatters #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears

09.01.2022 We are delighted to offer 15 hours per week of three-year-old & four-year-old kindergarten in 2021. If you have not yet completed your enrolment form, and are interested in having your child learn, play & grow with us, please email us at [email protected]

09.01.2022 Look at our life cycles!! We are thrilled to watch our tadpoles grow and change at kindergarten! We carefully check for changes in the mornings- through the process of observation, we have come to the conclusion that tadpoles are more active when the warm sun hits their bodies. Learning about life cycles is a meaningful way to build sequencing skills and to draw on prior knowledge to predict what comes next. When we draw, we explore the idea that the images we create hav...e meaning- an essential step towards reading and writing. After discussions about the role of the arrows in our life cycle diagram, the children have been using arrow in their play to indicate next. We have also started exploring the life cycle of plants, with children planting a bean seed in a ziplock bag to create a closed eco-system. These bags have been placed on our glass windows to germinate, and will go home with our four-year-old group to observe over the holidays. We encourage you to chart the growth of the plants with your child, and to eventually plant your bean into the ground. #learningthroughplay #avenelkindergarten #sustainabilityeducation #avenelvictoria #lifecycles #avenelkinder #playmatters #earlychildhoodliteracy #kindergarten #earlychildhoodeducation

09.01.2022 A huge thanks to our families who purchased a picture plate. As a community, we were able to raise $450 to support our childrens learning and development! Our next fundraiser is just around the corner- watch this space!

08.01.2022 On a hot day, we looked for cool places to play! Our kindergarten group spent the afternoon exploring the properties of sand and water as they excavated, creating dams, volcanoes and retaining walls out of wet sand. The collaborative conversations about these geographical features were phenomenal, and problem-solving was a priority when some of our pipes were stuck in the squelchy sand. Meanwhile, we examined light and colour in our rainbow tunnel, and developed our colour ...mixing skills in the shade. We talked about the spectrum of light, and how some colours are primary, while others are secondary, and predicted what would happen if we mixed them all together (a 'super gross brown') We are desperately seeking some more pipes to enable this wonderful play. If you have some spare pipes around the house, we would love to give them a new home! #avenelkinder #avenelvictoria #avenelkindergarten #learningoutside #playmatters #playbasedlearning #indooroutdoorlearning #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #earlychildhoodstem

08.01.2022 Check out these budding artists in action. Over the next few weeks, our three-year-old group will be adding to their 'bead tree'. This ongoing project combines natural, recycled and manufactured resources, and helps to promote creativity and the development of strong fine motor skills! When we work on large scale projects together, we build a sense of belonging to a group and develop essential learning dispositions including collaboration, patience and problem solving! #lear...nthroughplay #earlychildhoodeducation #earlyyears #playmatters #playbasedlearning #avenel #avenelkinder #avenelkindergarten See more

08.01.2022 How are you feeling today? We are using the Zones of Regulation Framework as part of our social and emotional literacy program. The Zone of Regulation Framework is systematic, cognitive behavioural approach used to teach self-regulation by categorising all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete coloured zones. When we arrive at kindergarten, we carefully find our names and place them on our Check-In Chart on the colour that matche...s our emotion. After reading the Colour Monster, a story designed to help children build their understanding of their emotions, our fantastic four-year-old children created their own versions of the main character. They used red paint to represent anger, yellow for worries, green for happiness and blue for sadness. During R U OK week, we encourage you to check in on your own emotions and ask yourself how am I feeling today. #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #avenel #avenelvictoria #learningthroughplay #playmatters #socialandemotionalliteracy #zonesofregulation #thecolourmonster #earlychildhood #earlychildhoodeducation #socialskills #emotionalregulation

08.01.2022 We love getting grubby in the garden! A huge thank you to the wonderful family that filled our veggie patches with soil ready to be planted Research has clearly shown that there are enormous educational benefits for children when involved in gardening activities. As a proud Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program member, we love encouraging our children to learn about where fresh food comes from and the importance of healthy eating through growing their own vegetables.... In our outdoor classroom, our children become responsible, learn about weather, seasons and plants and gain insight on density, weight, malleability, permeability etc. As the year progresses, we begin to conceptualise the concept of cause and effect (for example, plants and vegetables die without water, weeds compete with plants) and work with others to achieve a shared goal. We are always looking for more green thumbs to help us prepare our patch. Please be in touch if you have time to spare! #learningthroughplay #learningoutside #stephaniealexander #earlychildhood #earlychildhoodeducation #playmatters #sustainabilityeducation #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #avenelvictoria #avenel #kindergarten

08.01.2022 On Early Childhood Educator day, we thank our educators for their strength, positivity and willingness to go above and beyond for every child. They say it takes a big heart to shape little minds, and that is certainly true for our team. I have worked in different roles across the education sector, and I have never met such a passionate and innovative team of Early Childhood educators. They are willing to grow, learn and develop alongside the children, and to give 110% ever...y single day. They work with limited resources to create a rich learning and teaching environment for the children of our community and strengthen relationships with each child every day.. There is still time to add your own messages of thanks about our team. Visit https://forms.gle/mHtMv4hZSouLxHzQ9 to share your thoughts. Thank you, Em

08.01.2022 We have been playing with words in the four-year-old group this term. Our incredible readers are growing in confidence, tackling sentences including "it is in the big tin", "that ant had a hat" and "the cat on the mat". As part of our modified Smart Spelling program, we created tin pictures and made our own flipbooks. We are committed to providing our children with a strong literacy foundation. In addition to our literacy activiites, we play with letters, sounds and rhymes. We listen to stories short and long, and use props to both tell and retell. Perhaps most importantly, we speak to and listen to others building essential oral language and communication skills. #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #avenel #learners #literacy #earlychildhoodeducation #earlychildhoodliteracy

05.01.2022 The fabulous Leanne & Ditto from @braveheartsprotectkids came to visit us! Through some catchy rhymes, we learnt about: Differentiating ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings Recognising the bodies ‘warning signs’... Body ownership Helping children identify language and feelings associated with secrets Reinforcing that there is no secret that children cannot tell someone What to do if you feel unsafe or unsure Educating children from a young age to recognise when they feel unsafe or unsure can assist in the process of reporting and gaining the support they need to protect them from harm. We are so fortunate to have such a valuable resource visit our kindergarten every year. We can't wait to see our new season vegetables popping up through the soil As the seasons change, there is always work to do in our garden. 03.01.2022 Wet washing hanging on the line, Dries so very quickly when the weathers fine, Along comes the wind and blow them all about ... Flip, flap, flip, flap, blowing all about What a windy day! Our terrific three-year-old group spent the morning hard at work making sure our dolls clothes were clean and ready to hang on our new washing line! We used our finger muscles to open the pegs, while our helper hands held the clothes steady on the washing line. We felt the cool breeze and the warm sunshine and predicted that they would dry by lunchtime. During our afternoon circle, we sang the wet washing song and read The Wind Blew by Pat Hutchins. We whirled about and twirled about in time with our wind chimes. Exploring elements such as the wind helps us to learn about the world around us. Real-world tasks, such as the washing, helps us to make strong connections with the things we see our adults completing every day. #learningthroughplay #playbased #earlychildhood #playmatters #earlychildhoodeducation #learningtogether #learningoutside #kindergarten #avenelkindergarten #avenelkinder #avenel #avenelvictoria

03.01.2022 Our curious three-year-olds were treated to an exciting day when @focus_tree_care came to visit our next-door neighbours! We loved watching the chainsaws make short work of a fallen branch, and Sam and Nick were kind enough to show us their tools and truck! We then spent time climbing up and down our own trees, checking to see that the sheep were not too frightened, using wooden blocks as chainsaws and sharing our gratiture for the branches of our kindergarten trees! We... would eventually love to get some battery operated chainsaws to extend our play even further. As curious explorers, we love to connect with the world just beyond our gate. We are so thankful for local community members who take the time out of their busy day to involve these capable learners in their day to day life. We practiced using our manners, saying hello and goodbye and asking important questions to the workers. #avenelkindergarten #avenel #avenelvic #earlychildhood #earlychildhoodeducation #playmatters #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning #learningoutside #communitykindergarten #communitieswhocare #community #countrykids

02.01.2022 You got a friend in me Collaboration is the name of the game at kindergarten. We know we are stronger when we work together, and actively work to build our communication skills. When we work as a team, we can accomplish complex tasks like putting our smocks on and using the hammers, saws and hand drills. Social skills are the skills we use every day to interact and communicate with others. They include verbal and non-verbal communication, such as speech, gesture, facial... expression and body language. A person has strong social skills if they know how to behave in social situations and understand both written and implied rules when communicating with others. You can help to develop your child's social skills through practising recognising emotions, role play turn taking and most importantly, through playing together. #avenel #avenelkinder #avenelvictoria #avenelkindergarten #learningoutside #learningthroughplay #socialskills #lovestrathbogie #playmatters #playbasedlearning #earlychildhoodeducation
