24.01.2022 A Horace update. Avenger skipper Chris was working as deckie with Scott on Fish the Deep and we spotted this fella in some real trouble a couple of months back. He’s in good hands and slowly recovering.

22.01.2022 This dolly had a swipe at empty hooks the skipper was winding in about 50cm under the boat. Then he found the livey. And those cannons did the rest, thing never stood a chance. Room Friday coming!

19.01.2022 Rec day! Good fishing! Took Chris all day to get a decent snapper while the others whooped him. ... Better Iso-Late than never. These covid puns are getting out of hand. No they’re not, they’re Iso-great. Great feed, pile of good quality fish there. Hope that keeps up for charter restart. Will just have to Iso-wait and see.

18.01.2022 Mother’s Day fish catch and cook! Spent a day drifting and collected some lovely pannies. Vac sealed a bunch for later and cooked up 3 snapper and a pearl perch for Mother’s Day lunch and dinner. Even had a few pieces cold the next morning, you know it’s good fish when you can eat it cold. Isol8r sk8r.

16.01.2022 We went with a plan to target Teraglin, Mackerel, Get Bait, Get Snapper/Pearl/Tusk, Get ambers or kings. Wasn’t a heavy bite but we got every target we set out to catch. Pretty satisfying. Filled the box, here’s a few nice photos of a couple of fish.

15.01.2022 Lots of decent size tailor around at the moment. We move off them every trip when we’ve got enough. It’s where the Marlin and Dolly’s have been for us also, so we’re happy to wait with tailor for the screaming reel. Couple tricks with Tailor to make sure they taste the best: - bleed them quick - fillet and skin... - bbq within 3-4 days (1 day is best!) - if you freeze then make fish cakes. Tailor has a stronger flavour with skin on, much stronger flavour after 5 days in the fridge. If freezing, it’ll go softer, perfect for Thai fish cakes.

13.01.2022 Some recent captures of Snapper, Kingfish, and Amberjack. Some Decent Teraglin, Tailor, Tusk Fish, Tuna around. Quiet on the Cobia in the icebox although have had a few hook ups and runs with some 4+ meter sharks deciding we couldn’t have them. 13.01.2022 A few green machines. These Tuskies go hard for the bottom bouncing crew, way harder than the pink knob heads at the same size. Better make up too, checkout that eye liner. Had a recent spike in numbers on a few spots, nice to see. .

12.01.2022 Regular guest, mate and my dog’s vet Pete came on a trip Monday just gone, won the day. Here’s a few of his fish, filleted, scaled and vac sealed. Looks so friggen appealing to me. Apply heat and eat. Nice work mate. Pete also has claim to the pictured best Dolly I’ve ever seen in my 15 years inside half day grounds, 40m deep, a few months back.

09.01.2022 A nice little bite this morning for a westerly beating half day trip to 60m. Dolphins and Sharks working baits on the surface and on the sounder, whales breaching close by, a few fish for dinner. Very nice, thanks for coming everyone. Guests from yesterday, Travis and Tommy and Shaun sent me this photo of cooked up Snapper and Flathead (flathead crumbed bottom right of first photo) and a screenshotrd convo between Shaun and his Mrs/Chief filleter with a picture and appreciation of Kingfish sashimi, I want it all! The end product, all cooked up, is the sweet icing on a great day fishing. Travis pictured with a Snapper and Tommy and Shaun pictured with a Kingy each.

08.01.2022 ***IMPORTANT DOLPHIN FISH INFO, PLEASE SHARE, it will benefit all Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunny Coast (anywhere with fads) fishos, you’ll catch more in the long run.*** *If you catch a Mahi with an orange tag, please release, it’s an important specimen* *See photos for the orange tag to look for*... On wednesday we had USC PhD student Felicity Osborne, Dr Adam Barnett from James Cook University and Dan from the DPI Fad program on board to conduct acoustic tagging of Mahi Mahi off a few key fads on the Gold Coast. These tags are about $500 each and track the fishes movements to gain a better understanding of where to place MORE FADS. Totally beneficial information to every fisho on the GC. We were lucky enough to be able to not only witness the implanting of the tags but also we were able to capture a few for our dinner aswell. Tagging took around 5 mins per fish, fish was placed upside down in a cradle with saltwater being pumped into its mouth. If you catch one of these fish with an orange external tag then it’s beneficial to everyone that you let it go ASAP. If you’re hard up for a dolly then at the very least please remove the acoustic tag (little black battery looking thing implanted inside the fish, not visible) and contact The number on the orange tag to return it. 07.01.2022 Good news: there’s a chance we could be back in the next 2 weeks with new restriction liftings, we’ve got to research more this Monday. Bonus good news: Spotted Mack’s and Teraglin were a contrasting surprise yesterday morning for crew trip for Chris and Kaleb. Both shut down just after sun up for us. Great result for a couple or hours getting away from home goal. Now we Isowait for more information. .

04.01.2022 Chris and Bec Dodged some rain squalls today, worth it for the collection of these foods. We spotted a couple of humpback whale signs today but never confirmed them, potential breaches and blows out of the corner of our eyes and even some crazy footprints that looked distinctly like water being pushed up quickly by a big tail. Was good to get out, very mindful to make sure the collection of fuel, bait and supplies didn’t put us in too close with people. We’re still unable... to run charters due to restrictions and we agree with that decision still. Can’t wait to get out again soon, hopefully with paying guests if we can all behave ourselves and not spike in the rona cases Catch you later Isolater.

03.01.2022 With the help of an unknown Jet Ski bloke, we met this beautiful girl yesterday. A White Bellied Sea Eagle we’ve been told. She was hooked up from her feet to her mouth (on an unkown person’s hooks) choking and drowning in the Broadwater. Sea World got the repair job done after we dropped her off, released her today. Great result. ... Warmest and fuzziest catch and release ever.

03.01.2022 First Rainbow Runner I’ve seen on the GC. Lovely lookin fishy. From a fad, apparently we should see more of them moving forward. It complemented the other things we got off the fad, a good 20 of them up to 1.35m.

02.01.2022 Locked down but not out. Skipper Chris has a rush of blood at 3am after playing grand theft auto for 7 hours. It was definitely a good idea to go to 36 fathoms in 25-30 knots by himself. It’s hard fishing a fad in that wind by yourself but I managed the bag of 5 dollies, stoked for the meat for the shutdown. I thought I’d better have a quick float for a snapper, got one and then a cobia with a shark nipping at his back legs, lucky to get him in. ... On the way in from a lonely but enjoyable float, we heard a call about some divers in distress from another boat after the dive boat was rendered unable to make way. Police, vmr and myself grabbed them from their unplanned 2 hour water tread and took them to shore. I think we’ll call this first isolated fishing mission a success. For the freezer and for the divers. Catch you Iso...later.
