25.01.2022 This week our Sunnybank Hills centre celebrated Dental Health Week. This week the children engaged in play-based experiences relating to dental hygiene practices. To celebrate the final days of Dental Health Week our Sunnybank Hills centre had their 6-monthly visit from Dental2You.

24.01.2022 Across the centre at Avenues Murarrie, we are continually looking at ways to be more sustainable and to better help our environment. Our Toddler room children and educators are getting in on the act too after all its never too young to begin exploring ways to take care of our world! Setting up a small world tray with sand and litter, the children helped clean up the beach! Using tongs gave them a chance to enhance their fine motor skills and finger muscles. While they enjoyed this sensory focussed activity, our educators spoke to the children about litter and recycling, introducing these important words along with the symbols to our play based learning experience. The children loved this experience and have revisited many times throughout last week!

23.01.2022 Today at Carina Avenues we celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day! We acknowledged this day by playing Aboriginal games, weaving, face painting, dancing and looking at symbols and lots of other fun activities. The children enjoyed listening to Indigenous music throughout the day, the younger children moved their hands and bodies to the sound of the music while the Kindergarten children had a barefoot dance party where everyone took off their shoes and... danced around on the cool earth, connecting to the earth as they spun, jumped and moved to the traditional Aboriginal music. One of our favourite games to play is an Aboriginal game called Kai Wed, traditionally played with a ball, although some of our rooms use a more suitable balloon. Our children also experimented with weaving, using the branches of trees, learning that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people weave with lots of natural materials. The children explored symbol drawing in the sand, telling stories through their symbols. Some of our children had their faces painted, while the educators talked about how traditionally Aboriginal face painting tells of family, ancestors and holds important cultural significance. What a fun day we have had celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day! See more

Our tomatoes arent far off, just a tad green still but they are getting there! The children have enjoyed adding mulberries to their morning tea, and the chef has been getting daily supplies of lettuce and zucchinis brought to her by our children who enjoy collecting them each morning.

21.01.2022 This week at Avenues Norman Park we have celebrated Book Week. The Children have been so excited to bring in and share their favourite story books with us. Each day this week the Children have come dressed up as their favourite book characters. Throughout the week Educators have read the books that the Children have brought in. We have encouraged our parents to take part in the Premiers reading challenge and read as many books as they can with their Children over the week. Reading a variety of books helps Children with language development, listening skills, developing literacy skills, memory, imagination, role playing, creativity, curiosity & discussions but best of all its quality bonding time.

20.01.2022 For Science Week at McDowall we researched The Seabin Project. Our Pre-Kindy children learnt a Seabin collects rubbish in the ocean! They were so intrigued that they decided to make their own. Using hypothesising, trial and error we made our own sea bin using boxes and netting. However when we collected 32 pieces of rubbish the net broke!!! The Pre-Kindy children were not satisfied and decided to see if books would hold the net together. It managed to hold 42 pieces of rubbish! Success!!!!

19.01.2022 Last Friday, Kimberly Park Avenues celebrated National Tree Day! The educators were excited to share with the children the importance of caring for our environment by planting and tending to native trees and shrubbery and supporting the process of regeneration. All of our classes helped in the planting process and were very excited to see our new tree in the Joeys yard! The children are excited to see the wildlife our new tree attracts and help to tend to it with water and l...ove. The Wallabies children and staff decided to give back to our community by donating a native tree to our neighbours at Kimberly Park State School. They created a special card for the current Prep classes and our Early Childhood Teacher Miss Alyssa, along with Miss Fiona our Centre Manager and Miss Kym our Educational Leader delivered our gift to Ms Kris Whitman the Kimberley Park State School Prep Co-ordinator who accepted it on behalf of her Prep buddies. Happy National Tree Day!

19.01.2022 Carina Avenues teach our children the skills to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh food. This week the Kindergarten children harvested lettuce and tomatoes that they have been growing. The children are always learning about caring for our environment, today they practiced their skills as they gently took the leaves off so the lettuce plants could continue to grow. Preparing their food by washing the lettuce and cutting up the tomatoes, along with grating carrot and buttering their bread, the children developed their self-help skills and independence, making their own sandwiches for their lunch. We hope to instil in our children real-world learning opportunities and skills that they can take with them and use through life and a love for growing and making their own food.

18.01.2022 Over the week, Avenues Norman park have been keeping busy involving children in learning all about the Indigenous culture for NAIDOC week. NAIDOC week is about celebration of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Children have been looking at the Aboriginal flag & the meaning of all the different colours. In the older rooms the children watched videos, which brought on a lot of brainstorming and discussion about traditional ...foods, music, clothing, games etc. Other activities children enjoyed was making Aboriginal patterns using Aboriginal colour paint pallet & painting brush, reading dream time stories, yarns, singing songs, sand symbol patterns, dot painting, dancing, games etc. Over the couple of weeks leading up to "NAIDOC" week, we have been asking our parents for plastic bottle cap collection. Our parents have been kindly donating these for the past 6 months. We thought it would be a great Idea to use the recycled bottle caps to make an Indigenous art canvas display, with all children's participation. After reading the "rainbow serpent book" our children really wanted to make the colourful bright snake, using all the bottle caps. Once this is completed, we will be proudly hanging it up in the front entrance, as you walk into the centre. See more

17.01.2022 This week, the Aspley Centre had some much anticipated Feathered Friends come to stay. Our Henny Penny Chickens arrived on Monday and are currently taking up residence with our children in the Kindergarten room. All the Children across the centre have had the opportunity to watch these amazing animals hatch from their eggs in the warmth of the incubator and turn into the fluffy chicks that are running around the pen today. Henny Penny visiting the centre is a time that the Ed...ucators and the Children all look forward to each year, and with their visit, they bring along great intentional teaching tools for us to further develop the childrens knowledge and understanding on different things. The Kindergarten Children collaborated and developed a set of Rules & Responsibilities for the chickens, which they are teaching the younger children when its time for them to have a visit. We are also extending our knowledge on hygiene practices like correct handwashing and keeping clean. How to look after other beings that arent themselves, Responsibility & Turn taking and so much more. Take a look at our adorable Aspley Friends with their little chicks! See more

15.01.2022 At Avenues Norman Park the Koala Kindy children were super excited this morning to help Miss Candice with the vegetable harvesting. We noticed that our peas, carrots, and beetroot was ready to be picked and pulled out our garden bed. Once we finished our harvesting ,we then washed all the veggies. Some of the children wanted to taste the beans, from this came lots of lovely comments such as; "Beans are super tasty for you" "Beans taste so sweet and very juicy" "Im eating beans to make me healthy" "I eat beans at my house" Once we finished tasting our beans, we took the beetroot and carrots down to the kitchen as the children wanted them on their sandwiches today. Miss Sandeep took the vegetables and praised the children for doing such an excellent job.

14.01.2022 Carina Avenues celebrated National Tree Day on Friday! We are passionate about teaching our children the importance of caring for our environment and why it was important to protect and care for trees and show respect to the environment. Trees provide us with the oxygen we breathe and also assist in purifying our air from pollution. To help us with this important message, the Brisbane City Council kindly donated the centre with 50 native trees and plants and all of our childr...en and staff got involved by dressing up in all things nature. The children planted trees, choosing the spots the plants would go, digging the holes to place the plant and placing it in the ground, then carefully placing the soil around the new trees before watering them. Some of our rooms made spades from milk bottles as they have been learning the importance of recycling. We specifically chose some bush tucker plants that the children planted in our outdoor Yarning Circles as these are native plants that we can help to grow, then enjoy the fruits, leaves and flowers. We had many wonderful activities throughout the day including leaf painting, exploring nature, garden yoga, planting their own money tree plants to take home and all types of wonderful experiences. Check out what our Junior Studio children at Avenues Murarrie did with their play dough today.. For our recipe we followed the cream of tartar jar recipe - but it didnt quite work! (perhaps because we used cold water ) So we added heaps more dry ingredients. It wasnt perfect but we had great fun anyway! The children helped mix it all together and then share it out. We decided to add some natural loose parts to our experience and so using seeds and gumnuts, the children made cupcakes with cherries on top!

06.01.2022 Our Sunnybank Hills centre celebrated Plastic Free July with input from their local community. Firstly, resources and ideas were gathered from the Tangalooma EcoMarine website. Educators and children created their very own pledge tree. Children explained to their educators how they can further protect our waterways and live a more sustainable life with less plastic included. Educators documented the childrens voices and added them to the pledge tree. Families and our cent...re chef donated glass jars. It took a whole month for the centre to gather crates full of glass jars in all shapes and sizes. The centre received recipe ideas from families and their local Dandiiri schools and community library. Together the staff, centre chef and children made chutneys, bliss balls and jam drops. The glass jars donated by the families and chef were filled with the baked goods and sold back to their community in the centre foyer. Today is the last day of our fundraiser and all money raised will go to Tangalooma EcoMarine to further protect our waterways from plastic and to the Dandiiri schools and community library for their ongoing support towards our programs and practices. 06.01.2022 This year the theme of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Childrens Day is Hear our Voice, We are the Elders of tomorrow. So to include this celebration at Jindalee, we wanted to hear the children ideas and voices, so we have separated a map of Australia and heard from each room, what they feel is important about the Australian culture or their own culture. For the younger rooms we have used images that the children have chosen, and in the senior rooms we have added the childrens voices. We placed the map back together to show the culture within our centre, and to hear the Childrens Voices.

For the Koala, the children used sma...ll pieces of used paper for the body, an old black plastic bag for its nose, old foam pieces for its ears, and bottle caps for its eyes. They also used small pieces of bark to create a tree for the Koala to sit in and added real eucalyptus leaves that were donated from our families as a final touch. For the Seal, the children used old, empty coffee pods for its body, and bottle caps for its eyes and nose.
