10.01.2022 When we started our journey with Avesta, our vision was to create a unique dining experience in Manuka that brought together the flare of Mediterranean fare with the warmth of a family business. We love our food, and our culture and seeing the smiling faces of our customers as they enjoyed a meal. It is with an extremely heavy heart that we announced our permanent closure this month. It broke our hearts to have our regular customers go through this experience with us, as well... as the feeling of providing a less-than-perfect experience to new diners during the final few weeks that we were operating and for this we are truly sorry. The process of owing a small business is fraught with risk, and we would like to think that we could overcome any obstacle in pursuit of our dream, but in this case we were crippled by circumstances beyond our control. Anyone familiar with running a business in Canberra, or anywhere for that matter knows that business owners are quite often at the mercy of their landlords. Sometimes this relationship can mean the difference between a business flourishing or (as was the case with Avesta) being forced into closing its doors. We did everything in our power to ensure that we could keep our doors open, and provide the best service to our customers as was possible, but we were not provided with that opportunity. For obvious legal reasons, we cannot go into much detail about the person or people responsible for our current predicament, but we do urge any other business owners who have been wronged by their landlord (namely in the Manuka area) to contact us so that we can build a fair case against them. It is heartbreaking to come to your own business and be unable to open the doors because the locks have been changed, or to see confused customers push past security guards to grab a meal, all the while knowing that you have done everything in your power to prevent this from happening and to know that the person responsible has (wrongly) done this to other business owners before. We sincerely hope that our customers understand how hard this process has been for us, and that we will fight for your respect.
