24.01.2022 Wishing everyone a happy Hogmanay and Ne’erday when it comes. Special thoughts to those impacted with these dreadful fires and our firefighters. I hope the heavens open and rain just falls. My new year is being spent in Mudgee hospital with my dad. We too, are hoping that 2020 brings rain.

23.01.2022 Seeds Just remember, look at your weather conditions before planting seeds, ie tomatoes won’t really do well in winter unless you have a greenhouse and live in a frost free area. There are a plenty of winter crops so I thought I would give a call out to a local Mudgee company, they have vegetables, flowers, trees, organic stock and natives. ... www.rpseeds.com.au

22.01.2022 We have had much welcomed rain in here Mudgee and it’s just a feeling of relief. We will also be taking a wee break for a few weeks. Over last seven or eight weeks I have been looking after my dad Alex who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 77 and eight weeks ago he was still doing physical work up to 8 hours a day. No sign of any illness except for a blood clot sustained while bushwalking and climbing, he then had a pulmonary embolism and a massive bleed ...followed by a heart attack. How he survived another 7 weeks I’ll never know On Saturday night he died, not unexpected but still devastating for us. Some of you may have met him while delivering birds to Qld and Victoria. He will be missed by family and friends in Australia and Scotland. Thank your for your understanding but we need this wee break. Wha’s like us, damn few and they’re a’ died

21.01.2022 We are receiving a phenomenal amount of emails at the moment - over 100 a day, excluding texts and calls. We are trying to answer as many as we can. A lot of them are for eggs. We do not sell eggs. We currently only on have our breeding stock and some youngsters we are growing out. We are hoping to have the most breeds available in the Spring. ... We are having difficulty flying birds over to the West as they need to go on a direct flight and there are fewer flights. We have thought about driving trip over but would take 10 days and would cost around $4k for fuel, accomodation etc excluding someone’s wages. Our van and trailer would only be able to accommodate 50 birds maximum. So an expensive exercise. Anyway we are considering it in the Spring before it gets too hot. We will see what the interest is like. The best contact number is 0417984739 after 7pm.

19.01.2022 Over the last month or so it has been a difficult time due to a sudden terminal illness of an immediate family member and our time is spent either at the hospital or with palliative care at home. At this time we are unable to complete our SA and Victorian trip this week and given the hot weather, threat of fires and constant need for carting in water and feed for stock feathered and four legged, a decision has been to stay where we are needed. We look forward to delivering our birds in the new year. We wish everyone a merry Christmas and a safe one. For those who have been impacted by fires or providing assistance either at the frontline or with animal rescue, our thoughts are with you.

18.01.2022 Something to look forward to.

15.01.2022 Imported line Lf Buff Orpingtons This is a post that I have struggled to write, however I think the time has come. We have lost our remaining original cockerels and only have the hens left. Is there anyone with a cockerel from the original I... Port line that I can use over these 5 year old hens who are currently laying. I’m happy to share eggs and/or offspring. I just want to keep the line going and yes I could have kept a few more, but there was a lot of pressure to supply chicks. Thanks

15.01.2022 Multiquip E3 incubator. We have an incubator and hatcher, so far we have had to replace the motor, four times each due to bearing failure. Only one was c...overed by warranty. Getting ready for this season we have replaced bearings at cost of $5 each. The motor replacement cost over $259 from multiquip. Anyway the purpose of this post is that we have found a cheaper provider of the motor, BCB Sales and Service Victoria at a cost of $85. Ordered on the 9th, It arrived today. So anyone with similar issues, try these guys. See more

12.01.2022 A win of a different kind. I should add that we have been in horrendous drought so it’s not my win, it’s the bees from the the crabbit wee bee company.

12.01.2022 Our last remaining selection of mounted prints featuring breeds of poultry which in the UK are looked after by The Rare Poultry Society. Just one copy of each unless otherwise stated on individual photos.

11.01.2022 Thank you everyone for your support on my previous post. I have removed the post as I really don’t have the head space to deal with it at the moment. On a positive note 50 chicks hatched yesterday, it was a testing the incubator hatch. Goodness knows what breeds they all are. That’s a job for tonight.

11.01.2022 closing soon. This will help us understand what rare breeds we have in Australia. Five years in from the first imports I’m keen to see what breeds have sustainable numbers.

08.01.2022 With many of our surrounding areas being affected by the emergency fire situation in NSW please know the Crookwell Showgrounds is available for use. Please stay safe out there and listen to @nswrfs #nswrfs #nswfires #crookwell #thisiscrookwell #crookwellshowaph

08.01.2022 Siciliana. Siciliana chicks enjoying fresh air. Lots on the ground. This breed was imported in 2016 and come from an Italian line. Their double comb and awesome white egg laying traits make them a winner!

05.01.2022 A wee while ago we decided to make up identification/information labels for the imported breeds for clubs to use at shows. We have finalised an informative design that will be not be destroyed by birds if they decide to peck and also waterproof. However assistance is required, we need your photographs of the birds, our Australian birds. ... Photos need to be of birds that meet the standards, are clear of and a high resolution. If you think you can assist with this, I’ll set up a drop box and photos can be uploaded. The owner of photo used will receive a set of cards for their local club or show. The cards will be numbered in the order of the birds coming into the country with the year. It is expected that there will be around 60 and two or three will be missing for the birds not released yet. Their will also be some rare varieties ie. chocolate orpington or bantam sp gp and white hamburgs etc. We have been overwhelmed by the number of clubs requesting the labels and I’d like to have them all ready for the start of next show season. It will be quite expensive for us, hence the request for volunteer photographers. We have also been requested to provide labels of other breeds, unfortunately this is cost prohibitive for us, if anyone or breed clubs wish to sponsor their breeds then please let me know and we will work out the best price. Thanks Lynn
