20.01.2022 A well-meaning passer-by who came to the aid of a bogged vehicle in the Adelaide Plains may hold the key to the disappearance and suspected murder of 32-year-ol...d Michael Jeffrey Purse. While Mr. Purse was not reported missing until 24 April 2019, Major Crime investigators can reveal that he likely met with foul play weeks earlier, about Thursday 7 February 2019. It is known that Mr. Purse was involved in the illicit drug trade, as well as fraud offending, with associates in Adelaide’s western and southern suburbs. Superintendent Des Bray, Officer in Charge of Major Crime Investigation Branch, said Mr. Purse spent the evening of 6 February in the Adelaide CBD and at the Casino before attending Unit 17/415 Churchill Road, Kilburn. We have established with some certainty that Mr. Purse remained at the Kilburn unit, in the company of three other men and two women and some of those played a role in Michael’s disappearance, said Supt. Bray. Detectives suggest that Mr. Purse was likely killed at the Kilburn address in the early hours of the following morning on Thursday 7 February, before his body was stowed in the boot of a green 2000 Daewoo Lanos Hatch, later captured driving north of the city by traffic cameras nearby Globe Derby Park. Sometime between 5am and 8.30am, that vehicle has become bogged in the Adelaide Plains region, said Supt. Bray. Finding themselves in broad daylight, the parties involved have aborted their attempt to dispose of Mr. Purse’s body, and returned to the Kilburn unit. Detectives believe that in the early hours of Friday 8 February, the offenders subsequently returned to the Adelaide Plains and disposed of Mr Purse’s body. It’s our belief that an unknowing member of the public assisted in freeing the bogged Daewoo, but we are yet to identify that person. We’re imploring that witness who helped to free them from the bog to please phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 between 5pm and 9pm this evening, and ask to speak with Major Crime. If you know something, say something. Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au

18.01.2022 Brrr...WINTER IS COMING! More donations of blankets or towels are needed for our dog pound. If you're doing a cleanout at home this weekend and have blanket...s or towels that are in good condition... - Please drop them off during the week in this donation bin, in the Council Office, in Balaklava. - As the donations bin is located inside the Council Office, drop-off will have to be made during usual business hours (9am-5pm, Mon-Fri). - This is a no-contact, quick, and safe way that we can keep any four-legged visitors toasty and warm. The beautiful dogs in our pound will thank you!

13.01.2022 It is that time of year when we think of fire hazards would love someone to volunteer to run over the grass at the Avon Complex surrounds. Please let me know if you can help out.

12.01.2022 Hi All The year seems to be racing away and Christmas coming up fast and it is this which I wish to appeal to you for some help. For many years the Avon craft club has run a Christmas festival when we have invited and been successful in having buses coming for lunch and viewing our Christmas display, and providing much needed funds for the halls, however under COVID 19 it is not an easy proposition, therefore we plan to try something a little simpler. We have a good number o...f Xmas trees of all shapes and sizes both commercial, handmade, & some chicken wire etc. and would like to get these out of storage and display them in the Hall during December, with Open days for the public to visit. On behalf of the Craft Group (who are all very senior ) we would like to invite members of the community to adopt a tree to decorate. We would like to encourage the children to help with decorating the trees, using recycled items, or handmade as much as possible. Some items we have on hand ie. corks, cardboard rolls, pegs, scrap material, yarn, tinsel, magazines, cards, etc that could be used for decorating a tree or making a Christmas scene. These projects can be carried out at home, and just brought to the hall to be displayed we do not envisage having workshops. Whilst we are still working on the details of this event, we would like to find a way to reward those who are prepared to participate, either by a people’s choice competition or some other method. Due to my limited skills with social media I will be looking for help with advertising of this event once we have details in place. Pictures of past displays attached. Any help with ideas, decorations, advertising etc will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou Jill S. For information and offers of help please phone Jill on Ph 88671127
