25.01.2022 Avon Descent 2020 Entries OPEN MIDDAY 10th MAY MOTHER’S DAY NO INCREASE ON ENTRY FEES Northam’s Avon Descent Association will open Early Bird entries for the 2020 Avon Descent as planned at midday this Sunday the 10th of May.... In understanding the many challenges being faced by competitors, Northam’s Avon Descent Association has also made the decision to freeze all entry fee prices for 2020. We have received an overwhelmingly positive response to our recent Avon Descent 2020 Participation Survey. With hundreds of competitors eager to see the event go ahead and as part of our commitment to provide greater certainty to competitors, we will be offering a 100% refund of entry fees and camping fees should the event be cancelled prior to the 27th of July 2020. We hope this decision will assist in achieving a greater level of confidence and certainty to assist competitors as they train and prepare for our 48th Avon Descent. We will provide further updates on some of the changes we will see in 2020 over the coming days and as the situation continues to evolve. Please ensure you continue to adhere to all ongoing physical distancing recommendations as well as any policies set out by local clubs and associations in the use of their facilities. For further information feel free to send us a message or contact us through our website. #AvonDescent #taketheplunge

24.01.2022 As we approach the weekend that should've been the Avon Descent, let's talk about what makes the Avon Descent such a special event to you? For us, it's the opportunity to put together and host an event for a great community! It's everyone who comes together to create an exciting and fun atmosphere, a chance to watch the competitors who have put in countless hours of training and a way to get out of the city and enjoy the events that line the race. Though this year won't be the same, we hope to be back better than ever next year. #AvonDescent #taketheplunge

24.01.2022 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY Exercising by the water is great for your physical and mental health; whether you’re out paddling or in a powercraft there are plenty of benefits. Absorbing the fresh air and taking in the nature will calm your mind, body and soul. The calmness of the water allows you to de-stress and gives the quietness required to clear your mind. Adding in the element of exercise increases endorphins, which lifts moods and is good for muscles and bones. Even if you can ...only get out on the water a couple hours a week, give it a go and see what it can do for you mind and body. #AvonDescent #wellnesswednesday #exercise #mentalhealth #paddling #kayaking #paddling

09.01.2022 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY Now is a perfect time to focus on your immune system and the best way to do so is with exercise and a well balanced diet. Exercising regularly boosts our body's natural immune system, it's recommended to exercise 3-5 times per week (paddling is a great way to reach these weekly goals).... Eating plenty of vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds will ensure your body gets the nutrients your immune system needs, they are also full of energy which is ideal for training. If you exercise outdoors, please be reminded that you cannot do so in groups larger than 2 people and even then you must keep a social distance (1.8m). #AvonDescent #wellnesswednesday #exercise #paddling #diet
