23.01.2022 It's a crazy world out there So much pain, sadness & fear for the sick, for the people who have died, for the health care workers and volunteers The world is facing uncertain times for sure, and with that comes a lot of mental health issues as we all try to get our heads around what is, and what may happen. ... The rate of suicide was around 12.5 to 100,000 in 2017 in Australia // compare that to the covid19, at 1 - 2.5 to 100,000, and there is a striking difference. Suicide is the 'silent killer', and with this current situation, with stressors such as job uncertainty, economics, illness, breaking usual routines, social distancing... it is a pressure cooker for mental health issues to bubble up. Some tips from yoga to stay calm and keep your energy lifted : play uplifting music. . read interesting books or browse youtube and learn something new. . move & stretch to release endorphins (the happy hormones. . avoid depressants, ie alcohol, it depletes energy and literally is a depressant... or at least cut it back to 1 glass. . make small, fun goals, like increasing the amount of pushups you can do, or how long you can hold a plank for. . Let go of negative thoughts, they can easily become addictive. Be mindful, and redirect stress, worry or anger into more useful energy, such as creating something, cooking something, or making a plan for your day or month. . LAUGH . Watch comedy, lighten up, laughter improves brain chemisty, and is very good for the immune system. . Namaste calm Xxx

You don't have to be able to touch your toes to do forward folds, keeping the knees bent is a much more gentle option for a tight lower back & legs. I can't say the yoga wheel was my favourite prop to begin with, (it felt like it could easily break my back at first! ) but it's definitely worth the patience and persistence for opening the heart, gets the shoulders way back, amazing thoracic stretch and lovely for the rotators I don't think this prop will be getting neglected anytime soon ... Constantly trying to maintain an illusionary perception of perfection is known to be one of the most common reasons for stress > anxiety > depression. . When you wake up and really want chocolate for breakfast but should probably be a healthy adult, this cacao & avo nice cream makes a perfect happy medium Prepare the night before ...... 1 frozen avo, diced 1 frozen banana, chopped Then add to the blender / thermi along with: 1/3 mixed roasted nuts 1/4 cup cacao 1 tsp vanilla Pinch salt 1/4 cup oats 2 tbsp vanilla protein powder (opt) 5 pitted dates 3 tbsp chia seeds 1 cup coconut milk ... Blend on med/high speed, (sp 7 thermi) for about 5-10 seconds, until almost smooth but still thick. Add 1 tray of ice and blend for another 5 secs to form a thick ice cream like consistency. ... Garnish with sliced banana, figs, blueberries & cacao Serves 2-4 Xox

10.01.2022 Stretch everyday Quads are one of those forgotten muscles, when we sit for extended periods it all gets really tight in the hip joints, so stretching out the quads in poses like this baby dancer pose really help to keep the lower back happy, and the hips mobile engage the core muscles and pelvic floor. lift the chest and peel the shoulders back. keep the knees aligned (not going out to the side). ... push the hips forward a little bit, and the foot into the hand, to feel the stretch all the way down from the tummy to the knee. hold in a comfy place for around a minute each side. #healthyhips See more

All you need to do is pan fry chopped strawberries that have been sprinkled with coconut or brown sugar, in an oil of your choice (I use nuttelex but butter or coconut oil works perfectly). They're ready when they smell like strawberry jam A little cacao sprinkled on top is amazing too, who doesn't love chocolate & strawberries for breaki . Happy Friday! The weekend is so close Xoxo

07.01.2022 The kids have gone back to school, and it's time to get back on track with looking after ourselves This video is a great way to strengthen our really important postural muscles, and get a full body stretch! This 28min sequence helps with back flexibility, as well as mobility of the shoulders and lower back joints. This sequence is all on the mat, no standing or balancing postures, so it's a great beginners class and gentle enough for most levels of fitness and flexibility.... Enjoy
05.01.2022 Let the fear of failure be your motivation, not your reason to give it up ... We all start things, and fail at some and excel in others. It's usually the negative outcomes that stick in our minds the most tho! ... How many times have you started a new diet, or fitness plan only to 'fall off the wagon' and go back to the beginning?... . Instead of allowing the 'failure' to stop you trying again, reframe the thought pattern into 'my previous attempt didn't work for me because ...' and nut out why that time didn't go according to plan. Then brainstorm all of the other things that could get in the way of the plan, and make Plan B's for those risks too. If you're prepared and realistic about what can go wrong, it can give you the power to saftey net yourself, to put things into place and be well prepared for your next attempt. . Our minds can be our biggest enemy, or our greatest asset when trying to acheive our goals. Being mindful and realistic is one of the most effective ways to clearly see when the mind is going against our best wishes. Choose your thoughts carefully

03.01.2022 * Choc protein probiotic smoothie * . Healthy stomach flora means less acidity, bloating and gas, and has been getting loads of hype in the mental health area for a while now. Acidity and irritability in our tummies has a huge impact on our mental state.... . This recipe is perfect if you're trying to cut out sugars, want a healthy gut, but still want to eat chocolate 1 large / 2 small slightly green bananas 3 tbsp vanilla protein powder (one that contains prebiotics is a nice touch!) 2 capsules or 1 tsp dairy free probiotic powder. (Omit the capsule casing) 2 tbsp cacao / good quality cocoa 1 tsp vanilla 2 tbsp chia seeds 2 tbsp sesame seeds 3-4 cups water (depending on your preferred consistency) 1 tray ice opt. 1/2 avo, or small handful spinach, or 1/4 zucchini .. Blend everything in a high powered blender on highest speed, without the ice for 2mins, then add ice and blend again for 30secs. Enjoy! . * slightly green bananas are better than ripe for prebiotics, as they're high in inulin, a resistant starch (= prebiotic). .. ** avoid caffeine or herbal teas with probiotics, the tanins can get in the way of your good work, and may interfere with the absorption of important minerals such as our good mate iron Xx . . . #smoothies #healthygut #chocaholic

01.01.2022 Healthy lungs are incredibly important, now more than ever with the covid-19. Wondering why? When we shallow breathe, we don't use the entire lung capacity, only the top areas of the lungs are working. This means that the bottom parts of the lungs are not used regularly, and can become necrotic, a breeding ground for bugs! Deep breathing, aka diaphragmatic breathing, uses the entire lung space, getting the old static air out, and fresh air in. To keep the lungs healthy, w...e need to open our chest to allow the full movement of the lungs to occur. Try taking a deep breath in, then hold the air in, and try to be breathe in a little bit more. Hold this for 10 seconds and slowly exhale (you could start with 5secs if 10 is too much), until you can't exhale anymore. Really push all the air out. * Repeat twice, and gradually increase to 15, then 20 seconds each repitition. Holding the air inside the lungs encourages the unused parts to start to work again, and emptying the lungs gets rid of the stale air. This is a yoga breathing practice, or style of pranayama, called Breath Retention. Highly recommended for all people, although asthmatics need to be cautious with this exercise. #loveyourlungs
