25.01.2022 Week 4 in Yoga Groove was all about moving forward into the world & believing in ourselves, the essence of Manipura chakra. The physical point is behind our belly button, our power centre. Many eastern philosophies note the importance of this area as it houses our energy. (Chi / Qi in Chinese medicine or Prana in Yogic philosophy) In class we experienced how to focus our energy & find strength through discipline using a few different techniques.... For the parents, ask your little teachers to show you the Warrior sequence or chopping wood breath (HA! breathing) or they might like to show you how to activate your energy centre by doing partner sit ups. Let them decide what to teach you as this chakra is also about having choices & feeling empowered to make them. For our relaxation we did a visualisation on the element of this chakra, fire. The children visualised tuning into their internal sun & feeling the fire in their belly. This can give us the confidence & courage when we need to take action, meet a challenge or even make a decision. Fire also teaches us that power results from working together peacefully, rather than fighting and dominating. Their reflective journaling after this was so calm & focused, perhaps due to the outcome of knowing ones true power.

24.01.2022 Chanting is something that children love. Even if they are restless or talkative, a repetitive chant or mantra will centre & focus them very quickly. Using rhyt...hm & movement to explore this ancient yogic practice also helps them naturally engage & connect with each other. The mantra we are using this term is an excerpt from the full shanti path or blessing for peace. It's loosely translated as ... 'may all beings be happy & free & may our actions somehow contribute to achieve this' ... See more

23.01.2022 Creating a peaceful space for children ... In the book peaceful piggy meditation by Kerry lee Maclean, it says to create a special place where you can sit & j...ust breathe. A place to get away from the business of doing & back to a place of being. In other words stepping back from the often intrusive external world & finding solace in a space that helps us reconnect with our internal world. When setting up such a space its important to make it personal & beautiful so it is welcoming & comforting. A child might like to include a special toy or a photo of a pet or family member, along with some things from nature such as a flower, a feather or perhaps a shell. The ritual of lighting a candle & some incense could help bring us into the present each time we come to sit in our special place. There are no rules, we can use anything that reminds us to be grateful for all that brings beauty, peace & love into our lives. Perhaps you could support your child to create this for themselves or together as a family. Just a few moments to settle quietly & just breathe whilst being grateful for simple things helps us reduce stress, increase our levels of happiness & experience greater physical, mental & emotional health. 23.01.2022 We had a small group this week so the plan moved aside for an impromptu class with some furry friends. Watch how focused the children are as they move from el...ephant/dinosaur into lion into zebra into dog into cat into bumble bee. They sorted the animals from biggest to smallest understanding that their energy systems would therefore flow from active & extroverted to more passive & introverted.. I am always in awe of their innate wisdom See more

15.01.2022 C H A K R A S a guided relaxation for children Ask your child to place their hand over their pelvic area, perhaps even place your hand over theirs at the same time. Ask them to Breathe in and imagine the breath is the colour of red .. suggest to ..."feel the soft breath moving down & settling under your hand let your child know that this breath helps them feel secure, have everything they need & know that they belong "feel this breath moving & settling over you ...like a blanket of red" Continue to read the transcript below.. Now move your hand to your soft belly, just below your naval, breathe in again and imagine your breath now a vibrant orange feel the soft breath moving down & settling under your hand this orange breath helps you feel joyful, happy & content .. allow this breath to fold over you in a cloak of sunflower orange.. Now move your hand just above your belly button, your breath now becomes a bright yellow allowing you to feel powerful & courageous .. allow it to settle around you in a cloak of yellow sunshine Now move your hand onto your chest, your heart centre .. your breath now becomes the soft colour of green .. allowing you to feel fully loved & able to love others .. feel this breath of green releasing itself into a cloak of green leaves around you .. Now move your hand & gently lay it at the base of your throat, between the collar bones feel the green changing to a crystal blue so this breath can help you feel clear & understood in all that you say & do .. see yourself surrounded in this cloak of sky blue Now place your hand on your forehead, directly over the area between your eyebrows .. your breath becomes the colour of indigo, a deep ocean blue ... helping you feel intuitive & creative, watch it wash over as it cloaks you in a sea of indigo And lastly place your hand the crown of your head, imagine the breath turning a lovely shade of violet just like the garden flower, helping you feel connected with your wise self & everything around you so you feel totally at peace. You are now wrapped in a rainbow of colours.. feel them moving up & down your spine, swirling & circling with ease & flow. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo & violet .. Helping nurture you so you can feel secure, joyful, courageous, understood, creative and peaceful ... you are now totally at ease, totally peaceful & totally free c. Awakened Heart Yoga 2015 This transcript was inspired by the book You, me and the Rainbow by Petrea King. Although I haven't read it for a long time & it is not based on chakra awareness, I found I was drawn to use Petrea's metaphor of being wrapped up in a rainbow to bring about love & hope. I wish to thank her for her creative inspiration.
