24.01.2022 I'm concerned about the growing backlog and delay in partner visas, and the impact on new arrivals who want to make Indi their home. Migration has long been th...e key to Australias economic success and it will be crucial in the pandemic recovery. When the borders open up, we should prioritise partner visas - welcoming people who have chosen Australia as their new home, with a partner already in the community, who have a long-term plan and will invest in housing and their childrens education. Long processing delays take an emotional and financial toll, especially if one is overseas. Anyone who has done a long-distance relationship can tell you it's no easy task. Uncertainty is destabilising. If you dont know when your visa will be granted, you cant make plans, start a family, commit to a job or buy a house. I call on the Government to take immediate action to process the partner visa backlog and address the consequences of COVID-19 on these applications. Watch and read all my parliamentary speeches on my website: https://www.helenhaines.org//unnecessary-backlog-and-delay #visas #community #IndiCares https://vimeo.com/453148744

22.01.2022 To assist with the border closure, patients who have appointments scheduled with Albury Wodonga Health are being issued with authorised letters from the health ...service to enable travel between the two cities. This documentation can be used, along with any other supporting material to enable passage across the New South Wales and Victorian borders, until the travel exemption permit system is up and running via Services NSW. The issuing of letters is underway and is being prioritised based on the date of the scheduled appointment and we thank the community for their patience during this time. COVID testing: All residents across our catchments will continue to have access to the COVID drive-through swab clinic at Wodonga, by making an appointment through the hotline on 02 6058 4444. Following the screening and swab process, NSW residents will be provided with a letter to enable their return across the border.

12.01.2022 Lots of colour and vibrant energy coming from this small and successful project subsidised by Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. Face masks were quickly and beautifully manufactured by one of our clever Congolese women Blandine when the Victorian government announced mandatory face masks in public spaces. 100 beautiful masks were made and sold to the lucky Wodonga Tafe students. It was hard not to say smile when taking the photos. Remember; #wearamask #stayhomeifyoucan #socialdistance

08.01.2022 I know everyone’s hanging out for this one so I’ll cut to the chase. Victoria will move to the Last Step from 11.59pm tonight. That’ll mean more people can get ...together 15 visitors to your home and 50 outdoors in a public place. Numbers at gyms will increase to 150 with group limits of 20 and venue density limits. Hospitality also increases to 150 inside for larger venues and 50 for smaller ones with density limits based on their size. Up to 150 people can attend weddings and funerals. And the number caps will be increased for other venues community centres, galleries, museums and more. I'll put all the details in the comments. There will be a staged return to offices for staff who've spent the past six+ months in Zoom meetings too with up to 25 per cent able to come back onsite at any one time. Everyone else will need to keep working from home. We’re also changing the rules around masks. They’ll still be mandatory indoors and on PT but you won’t need one outside, so long as you’re able to keep a safe distance from others. To put it into context, that means wearing a mask if you’re at a busy outdoor market or event but not if you’re out walking the dog. You'll need to carry a mask at all times for when it's required. I’m sure some people think everything should be thrown open completely now that we’ve gone three weeks without a case. But that’s precisely the point. We’ve only got to zero cases because of masks and distancing and everyone playing their part. Keeping these protections around a bit longer means that if we were to get a case, the risk of it spreading faster and wider will be much lower. And most Victorians would agree it’s a relatively small imposition for a potentially huge benefit. Just finally, to everyone looking ahead to Christmas and planning how many seats at the lunch table you'll be able to have 30 visitors at home, including kids. We'll have more to say on other settings soon, based on the latest public health advice. This has been a year like no other and one most of us would probably rather forget. Victorians have sacrificed so much and done it so tough. But even in the darkest of winter days, we stuck together and supported each other. And for that I am so grateful and so very proud.

01.01.2022 This information is about being tested for Covid 19 in Albury or Wodonga. If you have any like symptoms that are like the flu or a cold- you must get tested fo...r Covid 19. You might only have mild flu symptoms, but you still need to be tested. These symptoms are: Fever, chills or sweats, Coughing, A sore throat, Shortness of breath, A runny nose, The loss of smell or taste. The Covid 19 test is free for everyone, it will not cost you anything to be tested. To get tested in Albury or Wodonga call Albury Wodonga Health on (02) 6058 4444. They will provide a phone interpreter for you and organise an appointment time for the test. This is what happens when you call this phone number to get a COVID19 test: First you will hear an automated message in English, Press 1 on your phone to be put through to a staff member. You may have to wait until someone can talk to you. When you speak to a staff member say you need an interpreter. They will ask you for your name, phone number and your language. They will call you back on your number with a phone interpreter to talk with you and arrange for you to be tested. This is what happens when you go to get a test: Testing is happening in different locations. The person on the phone will find the closest testing place for you. If you dont have a car or licence they will organise another way for you to be tested. You should say that you dont have a car. If you need to cross the border to be tested, they will arrange a permit for you over the phone. The test takes around a minute. A nurse does a swab from the back of your throat and nose. They will also take your temperature and ask you some other questions. The test is free for everyone. When you go for your test you should bring identification for example, your Medicare card, drivers licence or student ID. They will tell you how long it will take for you to receive the test results. After the test you must return home. You must isolate yourself from all other people until you receive your test result. If you cannot isolate from the other people in your house, anyone that lives with you will need to self isolate also until you find out your test results. If you or anyone you live with cannot go to work or study because you must isolate, you can ask for a medical certificate. If you need to you can show this to your boss or school. You need to ask for this when you get tested and they will organise these certificates for you or anyone you live with. If your results are negative, that means you do not have Covid 19 . You will receive a text message on your phone, this text message will be in English. Once you have received this text message you and anyone you live with no longer need to self isolate. If your result is positive, that means you have Covid 19, they will call you on your phone. You can ask for an interpreter if they call you and they will arrange one for you over the phone. They will explain with an interpreter what you will need to do. The most important thing is that anyone who has symptoms like having the flu, must get tested for Covid 19, this is important to help to stop the spread of this virus.
