25.01.2022 My youngest loves to help out with the axies. Recently he learnt how to test the water and found out all about the nitrogen cycle. We found this handy little chart online to help explain the process. He was so excited by what he's learnt that he asked to test the water of the school fish!... 08.01.2022 Take care of yourselves and each other during this heatwave. Remember axies also can suffer from heat stress if their tanks heat up too much. If water is too warm it can encourage bacterial or fungal growth causing sickness or even death in axolotls. While you can buy coolers and fans for aquariums to ensure they are kept at a cool temperature, there are other, inexpensive ways to cool down your pets during this heat. ... Consider doing a water change to add cool fresh, dechlorinated water to the tank. Also add a frozen ice block to the tank to cool the water down. A larger tank will hold temperature better, whereas smaller tanks can heat up more quickly, so be aware of this and take extra precautions if your tank is smaller. *There will be no adoptions during this heatwave. 01.01.2022 ****Introducing your axie to their new home**** Once you get your axie home, take some time to help them acclimatise to their new environment. Changes in the te...mperature and PH levels can cause stress to your axie. To gently introduce them to their new environment begin by adding some of your aquarium water to their container. If there's room you can float the container in your aquarium to bring the water to the same temperature. Gradually add more water over the course of a few hours. Eventually you can gently lift your axie out or simply tip the container and allow them to swim out. Even with the most careful introduction your axie will likely experience some stress as a result of moving home. They may take a few days before they are ready to eat, or they may appear quiet and subdued. If these behaviours continue for more than a few days, or if their gills become curled forwards it may be helpful to recheck the parameters of your aquarium. Feel free to share any tips that have worked for you below.
